The unloading of 900 tons of humanitarian aid for Gaza is underway from Turkiye’s 17th “Goodness Ship,” which arrived at Egypt’s Al Arish Port on Friday, Anadolu reports.

The vessel departed on Tuesday from Turkiye’s southern Mersin International Port and reached Al Arish Port after a voyage across the Mediterranean.

Coordinated by Turkiye’s Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), the ship carries about 900 tons of aid supplies prepared to help meet the urgent needs of Gaza residents.

The cargo includes ready-to-eat meals, canned goods, and baby formula.

The 17th “Goodness Ship” is part of Turkiye’s ongoing humanitarian efforts to deliver relief as humanitarian suffering deepens in Gaza, continuing a series of aid missions sent since the start of the crisis.

Keir Starmer objects to criticism of the IDF. He asks how could anyone object to them starving people to death, forced marches like the Nazis did, bombing Gaza's hospitals and universities, mass-murdering journalists, healthworkers and starving people queuing for food, killing and raping prisoners and murdering children. He calls for people to stop obstructing his genocide for Israel.

An open wound: 9,100 Palestinians held in Israeli prisons amid western silence

by Adnan Hmidan

Beneath the world’s silence, Israel’s prisons consume lives like black holes — devouring the living and releasing only broken bodies and haunted souls.

Behind those walls are more than 9,100 Palestinians: around 400 children and 75 women, as well as doctors, teachers and journalists whose only act was to serve their people with a stethoscope, a pen or a camera that revealed the occupation’s cruelty.

Among them are Dr Husam Abu Safiya and Dr Marwan al-Hams, respected medical and humanitarian figures, both taken from their hospitals without trial or charge. The same occupational power that has long seized land now seizes human beings — a grotesque reality playing out in the twenty-first century while Western capitals continue to preach the language of “freedom” and “international law”.

Palestinians have long lost faith in Israel’s so-called judiciary, a system that operates as part of the same machinery of repression. These are military tribunals where a civilian stands before a judge, an officer and soldiers from the very army occupying his land. Through administrative detention, Israeli authorities can imprison anyone indefinitely, without charge or evidence — a practice that violates every principle of justice and human dignity.

What cuts deeper than the bars themselves is the willful silence of the Western media. The same outlets that fill their screens with stories of prisoners elsewhere have turned Palestinians into faceless, nameless statistics.

There are no reports of children robbed of their childhoods behind bars, no interviews with mothers waiting years for a word from their sons, no images of those released — hollow-eyed, their bodies ravaged by disease after months of neglect.

Doctors who have examined recently freed detainees describe rampant skin infections, severe malnutrition and trembling hands — not merely from cold, but from the lasting scars of months spent in shackles.

If any other state were responsible for such abuse, Western newsrooms would erupt with outrage. Reporters would stand outside prisons demanding accountability. But when the victim is Palestinian and the perpetrator Israeli, the moral compass twists: condemnation becomes silence, and the oppressor is gifted the vocabulary of “self-defence” while the victim is accused of exaggeration.

The imprisonment of thousands of Palestinians amounts to a crime against humanity. The international community — foremost the International Committee of the Red Cross — must act now: visit every Israeli detention centre, document the conditions, ensure medical care and permit lawyers and independent observers inside.

All Palestinian detainees — men, women and children — must be released without delay, and those responsible for torture, abuse and enforced disappearance must face justice. The policy of administrative detention must end, once and for all.

Anyone who has witnessed the genocide and deliberate starvation in Gaza will not be shocked by what takes place inside these prisons. The same hand that presses the trigger of a bomb tightens the chains around a prisoner’s wrists.

And yet, even in darkness, these detainees endure — living witnesses to the brutality of occupation and to the moral collapse of a world that has lost its conscience. Only a few still dare to say aloud: freedom is a right, and dignity is not negotiable.

OPINION: Why we must keep marching for Palestine — even after the announcement of the first phase of Trump’s agreement

Rafah crossing to open Monday for Palestinians returning to Gaza, says Palestinian Embassy in Cairo

The Palestinian Embassy in Cairo announced on Saturday that the Rafah border crossing between Egypt and the Gaza Strip will reopen on Monday to allow Palestinians wishing to return to Gaza to cross, Anadolu reports.

Since May 2024, the Israeli army has blocked the movement of Palestinians through the Rafah border crossing, the territory’s only window to the outside world that was not controlled by Tel Aviv before the start of the Israeli war in October 2023.

In a statement, the embassy said: “The Rafah border crossing will open starting Monday to enable Palestinians residing in Egypt who wish to return to Gaza to travel, according to the established coordination mechanism.”

The embassy also urged Palestinian citizens in Egypt who wish to return to register their information through the designated online application, noting that they will later be informed of the dates and assembly points before moving toward the Rafah crossing, without giving further details.

Hamas released 20 living Israeli hostages and handed over the remains of 11 more captives in exchange for nearly 2,000 Palestinian prisoners under the ceasefire agreement.

The deal was reached between Israel and Hamas last week, based on a plan presented by US President Donald Trump. Phase one included the release of Israeli hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners. The plan also envisages the rebuilding of Gaza and the establishment of a new governing mechanism without Hamas.

Since October 2023, the Israeli genocidal war has killed 68,116 people and injured 170,200 others, the Gaza Health Ministry said on Saturday.

From liberalism to the far right: the cynical trajectory of today’s top Tories

Then prime minister David Cameron (left) welcomes then newly-elected Newark MP Robert Jenrick to the Houses of Parliament in London, June 11, 2014

SOLOMON HUGHES finds one-time Cameron-centrist EU fans now promote vicious anti-migrant rhetoric in their bid to get attention for their ailing party

Robert Jenrick’s complaints about “not seeing another white face” in Birmingham’s Handsworth show the Tories will push racism to try to grab votes.

Jenrick’s hard right turn is creepy because this formerly “Liberal” Tory, who was so blandly Cameron-centrist-pro-EU that he was called “Robert Generic,” now uses the language of the National Front.

At Tory conference anti-migrant, anti-asylum-seeker, prejudiced and racist language was ubiquitous: Mirroring Jenrick’s manoeuvre, it spread to supposedly “liberal” Tories.

I went to a conference meeting of Tory group Bright Blue. Founded when David Cameron was leader, Bright Blue see themselves as a socially conscious liberal Tory group.

Their slogan is “Our work is about defending and improving liberal society.” Their “advisory board” has Labour figures — former ministers Margaret Hodge and John Denham and former Blair adviser John McTernan — alongside a dozen leading Tories.

This supposed liberalism evaporated over migration. They had a debate on “How Conservatism can be popular and effective again.”

Shadow home secretary Chris Philp was on the panel. Philp is pushing his anti-migrant message hard: he attacks asylum-seekers as criminals. He also attacks the much greater numbers of “legal” migrants, claiming “mass migration has certainly damaged social cohesion.”

But what Philp said for the “Bright Blue” crowd was instructive: Bright Blue wrote a list of 10 Tory objectives. Philp said this wouldn’t work, because “it is hard to get attention” for the Tories, so any list had to be reduced to two: immigration and the economy. Philp was making clear the Tories are going hard on immigration mostly to get “attention.”

Philp was joined on the panel by Jesse Norman MP, a “Bright Blue” favourite, seen as a Tory liberal. In 2022 Jesse Norman wrote a “no-confidence” letter to then PM Boris Johnson, complaining “the Rwanda policy is ugly, likely to be counterproductive and of doubtful legality.”

So did Norman object to Philp and the Tories’ plan to reinstate their policy of deporting all asylum-seekers to Rwanda, or his “ugly“ language?

No. Norman argued pushing against “immigration” was essential, saying “it’s almost a threshold condition for seriousness” for would-be Tory voters.

This is the current Tory position, across the board, from former “liberals” like Jenrick to supposedly current “liberals” like Norman — they want to hammer the anti-immigrant button, because they can’t see any other way to beat Reform.

The Tory conference was quite direct about this manoeuvre: the conference slogan was “Stronger Economy. Stronger Borders.”

They want to have a “stronger economy” — which for the Tories means more privatisation, deregulation and lower taxes, and will use their “stronger borders” message — meaning their newly supercharged anti-migrant and racist prejudices — to get it.

Those cynically adopting this hard anti-migrant persona are more sinister in some ways than lifelong bigots. They are willing to play with prejudice without principle.

If the Conservatives end up in coalition with Farage — a distinct possibility — we can’t expect the Tories to blunt Reform’s prejudices in government. Quite the opposite, they might lean into them more, and deliver them with more efficiency.
