Public largely see Labour in negative terms, with even Labour voters tending to not trust them in key policy areas

Labour’s annual party conference is kicking off this weekend in Liverpool. There is likely to be a very different tone to last year’s gathering, which was held in the aftermath of their landslide victory at the 2024 general election.

Now, just one in seven Britons (14%) approve of the government’s record to date, while seven in ten (69%) disapprove of Labour’s performance in office. This gives a net approval rating of -55, near identical to the final -56 rating for the previous government last July, just before the Conservatives lost power.

Even among Labour voters, a majority (53%) disapprove of the government, with just 29% feeling positively about the record of the government they elected.

Two thirds of Britons (66%) see Labour as out of touch, relative to just 14% seeing them as in touch, while the public believe it’s unclear what the party stands for by a similar ratio (65% vs 16%).

Furthermore, around six in ten Britons describe Labour as weak rather than strong (62% vs 9%), untrustworthy rather than trustworthy (61% vs 14%), and incompetent rather than competent (59% vs 17%). Labour are also twice as likely to be seen as serving their own interests (54%) than trying to do the right thing (25%), or caring about a select few (50%) instead of caring about ordinary people (23%).

He calls for people to stop obstructing his genocide for Israel.

FOI request exposes extent of Palantir’s ‘tentacles’ in UK – and it’s not even answered, yet

As a company, Palantir has paid out after being sued for racial discrimination, been linked with disgraced UK spy firm Cambridge Analytica, been condemned by Amnesty International for helping to violate the human rights of asylum seekers, contracted with the US government to help develop potentially lethal drones; it provides the Israeli military with surveillance and intelligence services and employs the former CEO of CIA front Radio Free Europe.

The issues are not just with the firm itself. Its CEO and co-founder Alex Karp – an ardent supporter of Israel who has attacked anti-genocide protest as “an infection inside our society” – has boasted about killing people for money and says that he and the firm want to “scare the crap out of [their] adversaries”

[Daily Record] EXCLUSIVE: SNP MP Kirsty Blackman said getting rid of the hated Tory welfare policy should be the “bare minimum – not the height of ambitions”.

The UK Labour Government has been challenged to go “much further” than scrapping the two-child cap on benefits if it wants to reduce number of kids living in poverty.

SNP MP Kirsty Blackman has today written to Keir Starmer to insist getting rid of the hated Tory welfare policy should be the “bare minimum – not the height of ambitions”.

It comes amid rising speculation the Prime Minister may use next week’s UK Labour conference in Liverpool to confirm the two-child cap will finally be ended.

Anti-poverty campaigners and charities have long warned the policy punishes larger families and pushes more youngsters into a life of poverty as a result.

The SNP Government has already commited to mitigating the impact of the welfare cap in Scotland from next March.

In her letter, Blackman said: “Independent analysis shows that if the UK government matched SNP action across the UK, it could lift 2.3million families out of poverty overnight, including a further 96,000 in Scotland.

Peter Oborne: What Morgan McSweeney did in the shadows is set to haunt Starmer’s Labour

Discussing a forthcoming book by investigative journalist Paul Holden titled The Fraud: Keir Starmer, Morgan McSweeney and the Crisis of British Democracy.

Holden’s book will contain allegations of irregularities concerning what he calls “a secret unlawful fund” and more than £700,000 of hidden donations to a think tank run by McSweeney.

These revelations are potentially dangerous for McSweeney. Far more importantly, they may impact viscerally on Starmer himself.

This is because, according to Holden, the purpose of McSweeney’s think tank, misleadingly called Labour Together, was to supercharge Starmer’s path to Downing Street.

Once Starmer was installed in No 10 he rewarded McSweeney by making him Downing Street chief of staff.

The Tory Party is now claiming that new evidence has come to light that “raises the question of whether a criminal offence has been committed”.

In a letter to the Electoral Commission, Tory chairman Kevin Hollinrake makes the devastating allegation that the “funds were used by Labour Together in a sustained political campaign to bring down Jeremy Corbyn and secure the election of Keir Starmer as leader of the Labour Party”.

This is especially significant because official records show Starmer did not declare any support from the group in the official Commons register.

Under the Commons code of conduct, MPs are required to declare support worth more than £1,500 designed to help their “candidacy at an election for parliamentary or non-parliamentary office”.

To put the charges made into plain English, the Tories are in effect accusing McSweeney of arranging a secret slush fund to launch Starmer into Downing Street.
