The Spanish government “strongly condemned” the recent Israeli attacks against Lebanon and called for full compliance with UN Security Council Resolution 1701, Anadolu reports.

In a statement released by the Spanish Foreign Ministry on Saturday, Madrid reiterated its commitment to the security and stability of Lebanon, emphasizing that both were vital for the wider region.

The statement urged Israel to comply with its obligations under international law and called on all parties to fully adhere to UN Security Council Resolution 1701, as well as the ceasefire agreement reached in November 2024.

The government also reaffirmed its support for the mandate of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) and demanded that the mission’s personnel and positions be respected, condemning recent Israeli attacks on peacekeeping forces.

The statement stressed that Israel must respect the peacekeepers, including the Spanish contingent deployed in southern Lebanon under the resolution’s mandate.

“Spain reiterates its call for respect for Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and its support for the measures taken by President Aoun’s government to ensure the state’s monopoly on the use of force throughout Lebanese territory, the strengthening of the Lebanese Armed Forces, and their effective redeployment in the south of the country,” the statement said.

The remarks come amid Israel’s expanding military campaign in Lebanon since Monday, following limited rocket fire by Hezbollah amid broader regional tensions linked to the war waged by Israel and the US against Iran.

Israel had killed more than 4,000 people and wounded around 17,000 during an offensive in Lebanon that began in October 2023 and escalated into a full-scale war in September 2024.

Despite a ceasefire agreement with Hezbollah since November 2024, Israel has continued near-daily violations that have left hundreds dead and wounded.

Four Palestinians, including a child, were killed and another wounded Friday by Israeli gunfire and shelling that targeted areas in Gaza City and the northern Gaza Strip, in a new violation of a ceasefire in force since Oct. 10,  Anadolu reports.

Ismail Aql, 12, was killed after Israeli forces opened fire near the Khalifa School in northern Gaza, which shelters displaced civilians.

Another Palestinian, Ayman Ahmed al-Nabih, 54, was killed in Israeli shelling that targeted the Tuffah neighborhood in eastern Gaza City. His body was transferred to the Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital in the city center.

Witnesses told Anadolu that Israeli artillery shelled the area where al-Nabih was present, which lies outside the Israeli army’s deployment zone under the ceasefire agreement.

In the Tuffah neighborhood, 22-year-old Rizq Iyad al-Sharafa was wounded when an Israeli drone targeted a gathering of civilians near the al-Sharafa roundabout, east of al-Mahatta Park, according to a medical source.

Earlier, Abdelwahab Asaad Qanbour, 32, was killed in Israeli shelling that targeted the Shujaiya neighborhood, east of Gaza City. His body was also transferred to Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital.

Witnesses said an Israeli drone struck Qanbour while he was near Salah al-Din Street in Shujaiya, in an area outside Israeli troop deployment zones.

Since the Gaza ceasefire took effect, Israeli violations involving shelling and gunfire have killed 636 Palestinians and wounded 1,704 others as of Thursday, according to Palestinian sources.

The deal was reached after two years of a genocidal war launched by Israel on Oct. 8, 2023. The war left more than 72,000 Palestinians dead and 172,000 wounded, while destroying roughly 90% of Gaza’s civilian infrastructure, with reconstruction costs estimated by the United Nations at about $70 billion.

US group urge Iran to grant ICC jurisdiction over apparent war crimes

The American organisation Democracy for the Arab World Now (DAWN) has called on Iran to file a declaration granting the International Criminal Court (ICC) jurisdiction over crimes committed on its territory since the war began on 28th February 2026. Other impacted states in the region should also file similar declarations to maintain a pathway to justice.

As of 5th March 2026, the US-Israeli war of aggression has reportedly killed over 1,230 Iranian civilians and struck hospitals and schools across the country, while Iranian retaliatory attacks have also reportedly killed and injured civilians and damaged civilian infrastructure across the region. All states should also engage with UN fact-finding and human rights mechanisms and secure, preserve and protect evidence of possible war crimes.

“From the killing of over 150 students and teachers to strikes on hospitals full of newborns, every day more and more evidence emerges pointing to the commission of grave war crimes in Iran since the start of the war,” said Omar Shakir, DAWN’s Executive Director. “Victims deserve justice. The mechanisms exist and the US has no veto over them.”

The strike on the Minab school alone, in which the vast majority of victims were schoolgirls aged seven to twelve, demands a complete evidentiary record. Iran should ensure this material is collected, preserved, and shared with the UN Fact-Finding Mission and any future investigative mechanisms without delay.

“Iran has been loudly calling out these crimes, but their words ring hollow when officials fail to take action to preserve a pathway to justice,” said Shakir. “The Iranian government should preserve the evidence, utilise every available mechanism to investigate possible war crimes, and pursue accountability through the International Criminal Court.”

Israeli forces have intensified raids and arrest campaigns across the occupied West Bank in recent days, as the region remains focused on the wider conflict involving Israel, the United States and Iran.

According to organisations specialising in prisoners’ affairs, more than 140 Palestinians have been arrested within a few days since the outbreak of the latest regional confrontation. The arrests followed raids targeting dozens of villages and refugee camps across both the northern and southern West Bank.

Data released by these organisations indicates that the number of Palestinians detained in the West Bank since the beginning of the year has exceeded 1,800, including university students and former prisoners.

The arrest campaigns have been particularly concentrated in the northern West Bank, according to local sources.

Residents reported near-daily incursions by Israeli forces into cities including Hebron, Nablus and Jenin, as well as surrounding towns and villages. Military vehicles typically enter these areas during the early hours of the morning before troops begin searching homes.

In many cases, the raids are accompanied by on-the-spot interrogations of young men, some of whom are detained for several hours before either being released or transferred to interrogation centres.

Several areas have also experienced road closures and the establishment of temporary military checkpoints, while some homes have reportedly been converted into temporary military positions during search operations.

Observers say the intensified operations appear to be part of a broader security policy aimed at maintaining control over the Palestinian arena and preventing a new confrontation while the region faces wider military tensions.

Analysis of Major Polls Shows Trump’s War on Iran Is Historically Unpopular

“Not merely negative-number-so-what unpopular, but worst-ever-support-for-war-when-it-started unpopular.”

President Donald Trump’s unprovoked and unconstitutional war against Iran is historically unpopular among US voters.

In an analysis published Friday, polling expert G. Elliott Morris calculated an average of eight high-quality polls conducted over the last week about the war and found just 38% of Americans approve of the military strikes against Iran, while 49% are opposed.

Only 25% of Americans Support Trump Attack on Iran: Poll

US-POLITICS-CONGRESS-DEMOCRATS

As Trump Marches US Toward Iran War, Critics Ask: Where’s the ‘Pushback’ From Dems and Media?

Morris noted that there is simply no precedent for a US war being this unpopular from the very outset.

“The big takeaway from these numbers is that the new war in Iran is very unpopular,” he wrote. “Not merely negative-number-so-what unpopular, but worst-ever-support-for-war-when-it-started unpopular. With just 38% of Americans in favor, support for bombing Iran is lower than retrospective support for the war in Iraq was in 2014.”

Morris then offered some comparisons to past US military conflicts to show that the lack of support for Trump’s Iran war is simply in uncharted territory.

“No president in modern polling history has launched a major military operation with the public already against him,” he wrote. “After the September 11 attacks, a November 2001 Gallup poll found 90% of Americans approved of military action in Afghanistan, with just 5% opposed. The Gulf War in 1991 hit 79-80% approval. Gallup measured 76% support for the invasion of Iraq in March 2003 (Pew had it at 71%).”

Even comparatively unpopular operations, such as Trump’s strikes against Syria in 2017 or former President Barack Obama’s 2011 military operation in Libya, still had net-positive approvals at the times they occurred.

Morris added that Trump should be concerned about this because historically “wars only get less popular” over time as “casualties mount and costs become clear.”

CBS News polling director Anthony Salvanto on Tuesday also highlighted this phenomenon when analyzing a poll on the Iran war commissioned by his network that showed US voters’ support for the conflict dropped precipitously the longer they believed it would last.

“If you think it’s going to be a long conflict, months, even years… the numbers tilt toward disapproval overall,” he said.

Trump so far has not offered any kind of timeline for his war against Iran, and Politico reported on Wednesday that the US military is preparing for the conflict to last until at least September.

Trump on Friday insisted he would not end the conflict with Iran until its government offered its “unconditional surrender.”
