Beneath the world’s silence, Israel’s prisons consume lives like black holes — devouring the living and releasing only broken bodies and haunted souls.

Behind those walls are more than 9,100 Palestinians: around 400 children and 75 women, as well as doctors, teachers and journalists whose only act was to serve their people with a stethoscope, a pen or a camera that revealed the occupation’s cruelty.

Among them are Dr Husam Abu Safiya and Dr Marwan al-Hams, respected medical and humanitarian figures, both taken from their hospitals without trial or charge. The same occupational power that has long seized land now seizes human beings — a grotesque reality playing out in the twenty-first century while Western capitals continue to preach the language of “freedom” and “international law”.

Palestinians have long lost faith in Israel’s so-called judiciary, a system that operates as part of the same machinery of repression. These are military tribunals where a civilian stands before a judge, an officer and soldiers from the very army occupying his land. Through administrative detention, Israeli authorities can imprison anyone indefinitely, without charge or evidence — a practice that violates every principle of justice and human dignity.

What cuts deeper than the bars themselves is the willful silence of the Western media. The same outlets that fill their screens with stories of prisoners elsewhere have turned Palestinians into faceless, nameless statistics.

There are no reports of children robbed of their childhoods behind bars, no interviews with mothers waiting years for a word from their sons, no images of those released — hollow-eyed, their bodies ravaged by disease after months of neglect.

Doctors who have examined recently freed detainees describe rampant skin infections, severe malnutrition and trembling hands — not merely from cold, but from the lasting scars of months spent in shackles.

If any other state were responsible for such abuse, Western newsrooms would erupt with outrage. Reporters would stand outside prisons demanding accountability. But when the victim is Palestinian and the perpetrator Israeli, the moral compass twists: condemnation becomes silence, and the oppressor is gifted the vocabulary of “self-defence” while the victim is accused of exaggeration.

The imprisonment of thousands of Palestinians amounts to a crime against humanity. The international community — foremost the International Committee of the Red Cross — must act now: visit every Israeli detention centre, document the conditions, ensure medical care and permit lawyers and independent observers inside.

All Palestinian detainees — men, women and children — must be released without delay, and those responsible for torture, abuse and enforced disappearance must face justice. The policy of administrative detention must end, once and for all.

Anyone who has witnessed the genocide and deliberate starvation in Gaza will not be shocked by what takes place inside these prisons. The same hand that presses the trigger of a bomb tightens the chains around a prisoner’s wrists.

And yet, even in darkness, these detainees endure — living witnesses to the brutality of occupation and to the moral collapse of a world that has lost its conscience. Only a few still dare to say aloud: freedom is a right, and dignity is not negotiable.

Keir Starmer objects to criticism of the IDF. He asks how could anyone object to them starving people to death, forced marches like the Nazis did, bombing Gaza's hospitals and universities, mass-murdering journalists, healthworkers and starving people queuing for food, killing and raping prisoners and murdering children. He calls for people to stop obstructing his genocide for Israel.

The Palestinian Embassy in Cairo announced on Saturday that the Rafah border crossing between Egypt and the Gaza Strip will reopen on Monday to allow Palestinians wishing to return to Gaza to cross, Anadolu reports.

Since May 2024, the Israeli army has blocked the movement of Palestinians through the Rafah border crossing, the territory’s only window to the outside world that was not controlled by Tel Aviv before the start of the Israeli war in October 2023.

In a statement, the embassy said: “The Rafah border crossing will open starting Monday to enable Palestinians residing in Egypt who wish to return to Gaza to travel, according to the established coordination mechanism.”

The embassy also urged Palestinian citizens in Egypt who wish to return to register their information through the designated online application, noting that they will later be informed of the dates and assembly points before moving toward the Rafah crossing, without giving further details.

Hamas released 20 living Israeli hostages and handed over the remains of 11 more captives in exchange for nearly 2,000 Palestinian prisoners under the ceasefire agreement.

The deal was reached between Israel and Hamas last week, based on a plan presented by US President Donald Trump. Phase one included the release of Israeli hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners. The plan also envisages the rebuilding of Gaza and the establishment of a new governing mechanism without Hamas.

Since October 2023, the Israeli genocidal war has killed 68,116 people and injured 170,200 others, the Gaza Health Ministry said on Saturday.

CAMPAIGNERS voiced outrage today after the British government hosted a conference to “drive forward private finance efforts for Gaza’s reconstruction.”

The three-day summit began on Monday at London’s Wilton Park and brought together international investors.

Speaking at the opening, Middle East minister Hamish Falconer said that Gaza has “real economic potential” which must be “unlocked.”

He underlined the need to think “creatively to bring in private capital” and touted Britain as being “well placed to help.”

The minister then posted a photo on X of suits sat around the table declaring it time to “seize this moment” and that the conference would “drive forward private finance efforts for Gaza’s reconstruction.”

Campaigners slammed the meeting as “immoral” given Britain’s complicity in enabling Israel’s war crimes.

A spokesperson from left group Momentum slammed the conference as an example of “blatant profiteering.”

“It is totally immoral to use Israel’s genocide of the people of Gaza, which the government is complicit in, to make money.

“Reconstruction efforts must be determined by the people of Gaza.”

Mike Cushman, membership secretary of Jewish Voice for Liberation (JVL), said: “Gaza is a humanitarian and environmental disaster, not a profit opportunity for get-rich-quick private finance.

“PFI has been neither efficient nor effective in Britain, leaving a vast overhang of debt to be picked up by taxpayers for substandard services; only an inhumane government immersed in a colonialist mentality would try to inflict it on Gaza.

UNRWA: Every delay in delivering aid to Gaza means more deaths

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) has warned that any delay in allowing humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip will cost more lives, as the humanitarian situation remains catastrophic despite the ongoing ceasefire.

Jonathan Fuller, UNRWA’s Acting Director of Communications, said on Thursday that the ceasefire between Hamas and Israel was a welcome but insufficient step toward addressing the deep humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

“The ceasefire is a crucial step, but it is only the beginning of addressing the profound humanitarian crisis facing the people of the Gaza Strip,” Fuller said.

He stressed that the volume of aid entering Gaza must be dramatically increased to meet the overwhelming needs of the population.

Fuller warned that each day of delay in facilitating aid delivery results in more deaths from malnutrition and preventable diseases, adding that the priority now is to prevent the spread of illness and worsening food shortages while supporting displaced Palestinians to rebuild their lives.

Egypt FM: Recovering bodies of Israeli captives will take considerable time

In an interview with CNN anchor Christiane Amanpour, Abdel Aty explained that many bodies remain buried under the rubble, with explosive materials and improvised devices posing additional risks to recovery teams.

“Reaching them will be difficult, but we are doing our best on the ground to collect the bodies of the dead and hand them over to the Israeli side, as part of implementing the first phase of the Sharm el-Sheikh agreement,” he said.

The minister added that Egypt had informed the American side that retrieving the remains “would take a long time” due to the situation on the ground.

Abdel Aty said that the first phase of the ceasefire agreement was “going well,” while stressing the urgent need to allow humanitarian aid into Gaza and to reopen border crossings as soon as possible.

Regarding the next phase of the agreement, the minister cautioned that it would be “more difficult,” but expressed optimism that with “political commitment, US involvement, and international cooperation,” the parties could reach an understanding that would pave the way for a comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue, which he described as “the core of the conflict in our region.”
