No arms to Israel: Canada reaffirms Gaza arms ban

Canada on Saturday reaffirmed its ban on military exports that could be used in Gaza, rejecting claims in a July 29 report suggesting that arms still flow to Israel from Canada, Anadolu reports.

“Canada has drawn, and will continue to draw, a hard line: since January 2024, we have refused any new permits for controlled goods that could be used in Gaza. Not one has been approved.

“We went further by freezing all existing permits in 2024 that could have allowed military components to be used in Gaza, and those permits remain suspended today,” the country’s Foreign Minister Anita Anand said in a statement.

The law clearly prohibits any company from exporting controlled goods without a valid permit, Anand stated, adding that the Canadian officials will make sure those who break it will face legal consequences, including fines, seizures, and criminal charges.

“We will not allow Canadian-made weapons” to contribute to this conflict in any form, she highlighted.

After reviewing the July 29, 2025 report, the Canadian Foreign Ministry concluded that several of the report’s claims “are misleading and significantly misrepresent the facts,” Anand said.

“The items identified as ‘bullets’ are in fact paintball-style projectiles. They are accompanied by equipment designed to make a firearm inoperable with traditional rounds.

“These cannot be used in combat, and if they were, they would require a permit that would not be granted,” she stated.

No mortars have been sent from Canadian manufacturers to Israel—directly or indirectly—since before the suspension of permits, she noted.

In the July 29 report, researchers from four NGOs—including World Beyond War, the Palestinian Youth Movement, Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East, and Independent Jewish Voices—uncovered data from the Israel Tax Authority showing Canadian goods labeled as military weapon parts and ammunition continuing to enter Israel.

At a news conference in Ottawa on Tuesday, Yara Shoufani of the Palestinian Youth Movement said the findings reveal Canada’s ongoing material support for Israel despite government denials.

The activists also obtained commercial shipping documents confirming the transfer of ammunition and military equipment from Canadian companies to Israel.

Huda Ammori Wins a Judicial Review of Palestine Action Proscription 39

On Wednesday we were crammed into the unsalubrious court 73 at the Royal Courts of Justice to hear the judgment from Judge Chamberlain on whether Huda Ammori, co-founder of Palestine Action would be granted a judicial review of the proscription of the organisation.

Judge Chamberlain breezed in and went immediately into a summary of his judgment, beginning with an account of the process so far. This was covered in my last report; the only new information was that the Special Advocate who had been present during the closed session was Tim Buley KC.

In this extraordinary abuse of process, the security services are allowed to bring alleged “intelligence” material into proceedings, which Huda Ammori and Palestine Action are not permitted to see. Nor are their lawyers allowed to have any idea what allegations have been made.

Instead a court-appointed “Special Advocate” is supposed to represent their interests, without being allowed to tell them what the accusations are. Nor can they tell the special advocate what points to make, as in “we absolutely have no foreign funding and have never had any contact with any foreign intelligence agencies”.

Nobody is ever allowed to know what a “Special Advocate” actually does or says in the closed session, nor what the government lawyers or those giving evidence on behalf of the security services do or say.

If I were a Special Advocate, I would do nothing except hand the judge a copy of the Dossier on Iraqi Weapons of Mass Destruction, and say: “This shows the quality of security service intelligence. Now go and wipe your arse with it.”

Having told us there had been a closed evidence process, Judge Chamberlain then gave us what he said would be a brief summary of his judgment. The link is to the full judgment.

So while the granting of a judicial review represents some kind of victory, it is meaningless for now, as both the proscription and the repression continue – as does the Genocide.

I do not have any hope for success from the judicial review – all this is part of the smoke and mirrors of process and legality behind which the British Establishment seek to mask their complicity in the crimes of Zionism.

HAMAS branded US President Donald Trump’s special envoy visit to Gaza a “publicity stunt“ today.

Steve Witkoff’s visit comes as the humanitarian crisis in the enclave rapidly deteriorates and killings continue.

Medical sources in Gaza reported that at least 38 people were killed by the Israelis today, including 12 aid seekers, with more than 80 people wounded.

The US and Israeli-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) denied anyone was killed at their sites today and said most recent incidents had taken place near United Nations aid convoys.

Mr Witkoff visited the south of the strip today as international outrage continues to grow over starvation, shortages and deadly chaos near aid distribution sites.

All four of GHF’s sites have become flashpoints during their months of operation, with starving people scrambling for scarce aid. 

Hundreds have been killed by Israeli gunfire.

Hamas said today that the visit by Mr Wikoff to Gaza “is nothing more than a publicity stunt aimed at containing the growing outrage over US-Israeli complicity in starving our people in the strip.

Children in Gaza dying at ‘an unprecedented rate’: UNICEF

The UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF) on Friday urged the international community to act swiftly to prevent the mass death of children in the Gaza Strip, where conditions continue to deteriorate amid Israel’s ongoing war, Anadolu reports.

“Today, I want to keep the focus on Gaza, because it’s in Gaza where the suffering is most acute and where children are dying at an unprecedented rate.

“We are at a crossroads, and the choices made now will determine whether tens of thousands of children live or die,” Ted Chaiban, UNICEF deputy executive director, said at a briefing on his recent travel to the Middle East.

Visiting both Israel and the occupied Palestinian territory, including both Gaza and the West Bank, Chaiban said this was his fourth visit to Gaza since the war began on Oct. 7, 2023.

“You see the images on the news, and you know what has happened, but it’s still shocking when you’re there; the marks of deep suffering and hunger are visible on the faces of families and children,” he said.

Over 18,000 children have been killed in Gaza since the beginning of the war, he underlined.

“Gaza now faces a grave risk of famine. … One in three people in Gaza are going days without food, and the malnutrition indicator has exceeded the famine threshold, with global acute malnutrition now at over 16.5%. Today, more than 320,000 young children are at risk of acute malnutrition,” he added.

What is happening on the ground is “inhumane,” he said, adding that what children need from all communities is a sustained ceasefire and a political way forward.

When asked whether he sees any difference after more and more countries are airdropping aid into Gaza, Chaiban said: “Look, at this stage, every modality needs to be used, every gate, every route, every modality, but airdrops cannot replace the volume and the scale that convoys by road can achieve.”

Chaiban stressed that it is needed to move back towards a volume of around 500 trucks a day through all routes, and that includes both humanitarian and commercial aid.
