The European Union on Monday officially launched the “Team Gaza Initiative,” bringing together €883.6 million ($1 billion) in financial contributions to support early recovery efforts in the Palestinian enclave, Anadolu reports.

The initiative was announced ahead of the second ministerial meeting of the Palestine Donor Group, hosted by the European Commission in Brussels and co-chaired by EU Commissioner for the Mediterranean Dubravka Suica and Palestinian Authority Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa.

The meeting brought together representatives from 65 delegations, including EU members, partner countries, international organizations and financial institutions, to coordinate support for Gaza’s early recovery and discuss progress on the Palestinian Authority’s reform agenda.

The “Team Gaza Initiative” brings together contributions from the European Commission, European Investment Bank, World Bank, and governments including Spain, Denmark, the UK, Germany, Norway, Finland, Italy, the Netherlands, France, Japan, Switzerland, Sweden and Belgium.

Australia and Canada have also expressed interest in joining the initiative, according to the European Commission.

The EU said the initiative aims to coordinate early recovery projects in Gaza in line with the Gaza Peace Plan and UN Security Council Resolution 2803, while complementing broader international efforts.

The funding will support projects aimed at restoring basic services for civilians, including water and sanitation infrastructure, debris and solid waste removal, health services, energy systems, agriculture and food security.

The statement also highlighted new financial commitments through the EU’s PEGASE mechanism, which channels assistance to the Palestinian Authority under transparency and oversight standards.

The EU and several European countries signed €41.7 million in new contribution agreements through PEGASE, including support from Spain, Denmark, Cyprus, Ireland, Greece, Portugal, Italy, the Netherlands, France, Switzerland and Belgium.

This comes on top of €310 million committed by the European Commission through PEGASE for 2026 and 2027.
