The Palestinian Forum in Britain has reported that, after 650 days, there are in Gaza 67,880 dead and missing, of whom over 19,000 are children, and 650,000 children starving.

Killing Palestinians indiscriminately, causing serious bodily or mental harm to others, and deliberately inflicting conditions of life designed to eliminate Palestinians in Gaza as a group — these are all actions which fall clearly within the UN Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide.  

It is outrageous that, 80 years after the end of the second world war, which saw the genocide of Jewish, Roma and Sinti people in Europe, and the terrible massacres of Chinese people in occupied Manchuria, our own government is not only doing nothing about the genocide in Gaza, but is actively complicit in it, by continuing to provide Israel with military material and intelligence.  

That is why the demonstrations on Saturday by hundreds of thousands of people, in London, Edinburgh and elsewhere, are so important. Pressure must be maintained and stepped up on the government, and in fact, all MPs.

Police arrest over 100 at protests supporting Palestine Action

CAMPAIGNERS urged police to redirect resources toward investigating Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer for genocide offences, after more than 100 people were arrested for holding signs supporting Palestine Action on Saturday.

Demonstrators held placards reading: “I oppose genocide, I support Palestine Action” in London, Manchester, Edinburgh, Bristol and Truro at protests co-ordinated by Defend Our Juries.

In London, the Metropolitan Police arrested 55 people in Parliament Square.

The arrests were made under Section 13 of the Terrorism Act 2000, which prohibits wearing or displaying items that could suggest support for a proscribed group. 

One woman detained by police said: “Our government is not only arming a genocide, they are using terrorism laws to silence people who speak out.

“Palestine Action are campaigning for peace. They are dismantling weapons factories.”

Netanyahu seeks to prolong Gaza war until elections: Israel’s ex-defense minister

Former Israeli Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman accused Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday of seeking to prolong the Gaza war until elections, Anadolu reports.

Lieberman, leader of the right-wing Yisrael Beiteinu Party, said internal pressure will be directed at Netanyahu after the hostages taken by Hamas in October 2023 are returned and the war ends.

“Netanyahu wants to prolong the war until the elections,” Lieberman told Israel’s public broadcaster KAN.

The former minister did not specify whether he meant elections after Netanyahu’s term ends in December 2026 or early polls that might take place at the end of 2025 or the beginning of 2026.

“It is not possible to eliminate Hamas without first returning all the hostages (in Gaza) at once,” he added.

Indirect negotiations started on July 6 in the Qatari capital, Doha, to reach an agreement that includes a ceasefire and a prisoner exchange between Hamas and Israel.

A source close to Hamas told Anadolu that the group received updated maps from mediators showing areas across Gaza still under Israeli control and began internal consultations to evaluate the maps.

The Israeli army has killed nearly 59,000 Palestinians in the Gaza Strip since October 2023, most of them women and children. The relentless bombardment has destroyed the enclave, making it uninhabitable.

Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.

Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave.

Protesters defy Palestine Action ban

96 arrested around England ahead of legal challenge to group’s proscription, no arrests in Edinburgh and Derry

Nearly 100 more people across England have been arrested today (19 July) under the Terrorism Act 2000 for holding signs saying “I oppose genocide—I support Palestine Action”. Protest group Defend Our Juries reported that 55 people were arrested in Parliament Square in London, 17 in Bristol, 16 in Manchester, and 8 in Truro. In contrast, protests in Edinburgh and Derry were left undisturbed.

In Truro, police were slow to respond to the display at first, handing out leaflets outlining the legislation surrounding support for proscribed groups. They later began to slowly arrest those holding the signs—among them 81 year-old Deborah Hinton, a former magistrate.

In a statement made during their arrest, one activist stated: “We want Yvette Cooper to remove the proscription of Palestine Action. We want the government to take action on genocide and to stop complying with Israel in killing and slaughtering babies, women, children, and men. If this was in 1930s Germany, it would be the same as helping the Nazis with their concentration camps”.  

The ban on the group was announced by Cooper after supporters of Palestine Action entered the RAF base at Brize Norton and spray-painted two military planes. The High Court is to hear a legal challenge to the ban on Monday, when Palestine Action co-founder Huda Ammori will seek permission for a full judicial review of the group’s proscription.

JEREMY CORYBN is to host a “Gaza tribunal” to establish the full scale of British complicity in Israel’s genocide.

The tribunal, to be held over two days in September, will hear from witnesses and survivors, as well as a range of international law experts, lawyers and whistleblowers.

Mr Corbyn first made the call for an inquiry in a letter to Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer in March.

He presented the Gaza (Independent Public Inquiry) Bill to Parliament on June 4, which passed its first reading.

But on July, during its second reading, the government objected to the Bill, blocking any further progress despite it gaining the support of more than 50 MPs and numerous organisations.

Mr Corbyn said: “Just like Iraq, government ministers are doing everything they can to hide the truth.

“Just like Iraq, they will not succeed. They cannot stop the inevitable: a full and independent inquiry.

“We will uncover the full scale of British complicity in genocide — and we will bring about justice for the people of Palestine.”

The Independent MP for Islington North’s tribunal announcement comes as more than 80 MPs and Lords demanded the government impose widespread sanctions on Israel today.

The 84 parliamentarians from nine parties have made the call over Israel’s repeated violations of international law.

They laid out their demands in a letter organised by MPs Richard Burgon and Imran Hussain, to Foreign Secretary David Lammy.
