Since October 2023, Israel has killed or imprisoned directors of every hospital in northern Gaza, continuing assaults on medical facilities.

As of July 2, 2025, Israeli forces targeted the building where Dr. Marwan Al-Sultan, director of the Indonesian Hospital, was staying with part of his family, and killed him. With the killing of Al-Sultan, Israel has killed or detained the directors of all hospitals in northern Gaza, according to Healthcare Workers Watch.

“The death of Dr. Marwan Al-Sultan is a catastrophic loss both to the medical community and to Gaza as a whole,” Healthcare Workers Watch stated. A heart specialist – one of only two remaining in the area – Dr. Al-Sultan had dedicated his life to patient care and the training of future health workers. “He is the 70th healthcare worker to be killed by the IOF in the past 50 days,” Healthcare Workers Watch added. “Israel’s lethal targeting of healthcare workers is not only causing a horrific loss of life but also obliterating their decades of lifesaving medical expertise at a time when their skills could not be needed more.”

Meanwhile, dozens of Dr. Al-Sultan colleagues remain in Israeli prisons, including Dr. Ahmed Muhanna, director of Al-Awda Hospital, and the director of Kamal Adwan, Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, who was abducted in late December 2024. Since October 2023, Israeli forces have killed over 1,500 Palestinian health workers.

“At least 185 healthcare workers from Gaza and the West Bank were estimated to be in Israeli detention as of February 2025,” 25 organizations warned in a recent joint statement, calling for their immediate release. “The conditions of many of those still detained remain unknown. Many of those released have reported severe abuse, while some have died in custody.”

British doctors vote to break relations with Israel Medical Association

The continued assault on Palestinian healthcare workers and infrastructure remains a major concern and action point for medical professionals worldwide. At the annual representative meeting of the British Medical Association (BMA) held from June 23-25 in Liverpool, members passed five motions addressing health in Palestine and their own right to protest the ongoing genocide.

These motions reaffirmed previous BMA positions, including the condemnation of attacks on healthcare, and calling on the British government to respect guidance from the International Court of Justice and International Criminal Court related to Israel’s actions in Gaza. They also emphasized the right of doctors and medical students to speak out against war crimes without fear of reprisal.

“Doctors and medical students must be able to legitimately challenge the actions of states and armed forces, especially when healthcare is under threat, without being unfairly accused of any kind of discrimination or threatened with disciplinary action,” the BMA stated.

Additionally, the BMA voted to oppose the integration of Israel-supportive firm Palantir into the National Health Service and to stop engaging with the Israel Medical Association “unless it endorses medical neutrality and condemns assaults on Gaza’s healthcare system,” BMA members reported on social media.

Israel’s “aid distribution” kills hundreds

Meanwhile, Israel’s takeover of humanitarian aid distribution in Gaza continued to worsen the crisis. Since Israeli authorities seized total control over collection and distribution of supplies, violence at aid access points has skyrocketed.

“The weeks following the launch of the Israeli distribution scheme have been some of the deadliest and most violent since October 2023,” warned more than 200 organizations in a July 1 statement. “In less than four weeks, more than 500 Palestinians have been killed and almost 4000 injured just trying to access and distribute food.”

“Orphaned children and caregivers are among the dead, with children harmed in over half of the attacks on civilians at these sites,” the organizations added. “With Gaza’s healthcare system in ruins, many of those shot are left to bleed out alone, beyond the reach of ambulances and denied lifesaving medical care.”

Starmer struggles to save leadership amid polling calamity

PRIME Minister Sir Keir Starmer is fighting to save his political future as polls and parliamentarians alike give his precarious premiership the thumbs down on the anniversary of Labour’s general election win tomorrow.

Reeling from a week of political setbacks, with his welfare Bill gutted and his Chancellor Rachel Reeves sending markets in turmoil by weeping on the government front bench, the Prime Minister suffered a fresh blow from opinion polls today.

They confirmed that Labour has lost almost a third of the thin plurality it won in last year’s general election, now averaging 24 per cent, or a 10 per cent drop on last July.

This is the worst fall for a government in its first year since John Major’s Tories in 1992, who were starting from a much higher base. Sir Keir can only dream of the 31 per cent Major was then polling.

 Irish rap trio Kneecap made their feelings towards Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer clear tonight as they led the crowd in angry chants.

Tonight, the group played their largest gig to date, taking to the stage in Finsbury Park, London, in front of 45,000 people.

They were supporting Irish band Fontaines DC, whose frontman, Grian Chatten, joined to perform their collaboration, Better Way To Live.

Fans watched on as Kneecap came out in front of a screen that said, ‘Israel is committing genocide against the Palestinian people.’

And in typical Kneecap fashion, they weren’t shy in expressing their disdain for certain politicians throughout the night either.

On the mic, they vowed that next month will mark ‘the second time Kneecap have beat the British Government in court’.

 People then echoed the Belfast group’s chants when they repeated the ‘F**k Keir Starmer’ and ‘You’re just a s**t Jeremy Corbyn’ comments made at Glastonbury the previous weekend.

“We charge you with genocide” – Youth Demand disrupt Cisco at London Pride

Four Youth Demand supporters have blocked Cisco’s float at London Pride to expose the US based company’s involvement in the Israeli genocide of the Palestinian people. They are demanding that the UK government impose a total trade embargo on Israel and prosecute the corporate enablers of the genocide like Cisco for violations of international law.

Four Youth Demand supporters threw red paint over the Cisco float as it passed along Piccadilly, before sitting down in the road and gluing themselves to it, chanting “we charge you with genocide”. The Parade was delayed for about an hour while the group were removed. There were five arrests.

Today’s actions come against a backdrop of ongoing atrocities in Gaza. Since dawn today, Israel has killed another 42 Palestinians as they directed shells at schools and displaced people in tents, aimed airstrikes at private houses and shot people waiting for food.

As one of the main providers of networking hardware for the Israeli military, Cisco is potentially implicated in the mass killing of tens of thousands of Palestinians, many of them unarmed civilians. Cisco, a US-based digital communications company also provides technologies to the Israeli police and prisons, and to illegal Israeli settlements in the occupied Palestinian territory. Cisco’s networking, hardware, and servers form the backbone of the Israeli military’s surveillance and communications infrastructure which is used to track movements, map family connections, and facilitate mass surveillance and targeting of Palestinians for assasination. 

This week the UN Special Rapporteur on the Occupied Palestinian Territory, Francesca Albanese presented her latest report From economy of occupation to economy of genocide which presents detailed research revealing the complicity of private entities in international crimes connected to Israel’s genocide in Gaza and the unlawful occupation across the Occupied Palestinian Territory. In particular it names tech companies including Microsoft, Alphabet and Palatir. The report states ” While political leaders and governments shirk their obligations, far too many corporate entities have profited from Israel’s economy of illegal occupation, apartheid and now, genocide. The complicity exposed by this report is just the tip of the iceberg; ending it will not happen without holding the private sector accountable, including its executives”.

NB: I did consider not posting this image any longer since Palestine Action has been proscribed but it would be very difficult to argue that it supports Palestine Action. “Genocide like this” refers to Starmer’s description of the genocidal actions that he’s taking “We’ve got a genocide to achieve …” It’s discussing ” … people … who oppose genocide like this …” not Palestine Action. I wouldn’t want anyone to think that I support Palestine Action because that’s illegal under current laws.

This week, MPs shamefully approved the proscription of Palestine Action. Several challenged the move in the Commons. Zarah Sultana, Independent MP for Coventry South, gave an outstanding speech in condemnation. Because of the exceptional gravity of the issue, we reproduce her speech, lightly edited, here.

TWENTY-ONE years ago, a human rights barrister … defended an activist who broke into RAF Fairford trying to disable a bomber to prevent war crimes in Iraq. That became a landmark case in lawful, non-violent direct action against an illegal war. That barrister is now our Prime Minister, Keir Starmer KC. He argued that it was not terrorism, but conscience.

Fast-forward to June 20 2025: two Palestine Action activists entered RAF Brize Norton and sprayed red paint — red paint, not fire — on aircraft linked to surveillance flights over Gaza. Instead of prosecuting them for criminal damage, the Home Secretary is using the Terrorism Act 2000 to proscribe Palestine Action as a terrorist group.

This is an unprecedented and dangerous overreach of the state. Never before in Britain has it been a crime to simply support a group.

Palestine Action’s real crime is shutting down Elbit Systems sites that arm the Israeli military; its true offence is being audacious enough to expose the blood-soaked ties between this government and the genocidal Israeli apartheid state and its war machine.

Let us be clear: to equate a spray can of paint with a suicide bomb is not just absurd; it is grotesque. It is a deliberate distortion of the law to chill dissent, criminalise solidarity and suppress the truth.

Amnesty International, Liberty, over 266 senior lawyers and UN special rapporteurs have all opposed these draconian measures. Under this order, anyone expressing moral support for a proscribed group could face 14 years in prison. That includes wearing a badge, wearing a T-shirt, sharing a post or calling for de-proscription.

And journalists have no exemption either: there is no legal protection for reporting favourably, even factually, about Palestine Action.

Let us not forget what is happening in Gaza, where the real crimes are being ignored: hospitals bombed, children starved, and tens of thousands of people killed. Palestinian children now suffer more amputations per capita than children anywhere else on Earth.

Israel is on trial for genocide at the International Court of Justice, and the Israeli Prime Minister faces an International Criminal Court arrest warrant, yet the government’s response is to criminalise solidarity and to continue exporting lethal F-35 jets that are decimating Gaza.

We also have to understand the history of this country and what built our democracy: the tradition of civil disobedience that includes the suffragettes, without whom I would not have the vote, let alone the privilege of being here as an MP.

Even those who oppose Palestine Action’s tactics must recognise the vast gulf between criminal damage and terrorism. If this order passes, what and who is next — climate protesters, striking workers, feminists in the street?

Already we have seen a wider crackdown on our civil liberties — musicians censored, journalists arrested, and demonstrators, including MPs sitting here, harassed — and now this government want to use anti-terror laws to make peaceful protest itself a crime. If our democratic institutions functioned as they should, none of this would be necessary.

If this proscription passes, we have to understand that no campaign will be safe tomorrow. We have to recognise that this will go down as a dark day in our country’s history … People will ask, “Which side were you on?” and I stand with the millions of people who oppose genocide, because I am one of them. I oppose the blood-soaked hands of this government trying to silence us. So I say this loudly and proudly: we are all Palestine…
