Israel escalates attacks on Yemen, killing several ministers

The Yemeni resistance movement confirmed that the aggression will not deter it from continuing its struggle against Israel.

Israel has renewed its aggression on Yemen with two major aerial attacks that targeted the capital, Sanaa, on Sunday, August 24, and Thursday, August 28.

At least 10 people were killed and 92 others wounded in Sunday’s onslaughts, in which Israeli warplanes struck an oil facility, a power plant, and a presidential palace in Sanaa.

The Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) claimed in a statement that Sunday’s strikes were launched in response to Ansar Allah’s repeated attacks against Israel.

The IOF’s offensive came two days after theYemeni resistance movement launched a ballistic missile attack on the central territories occupied by Israel on Friday, August 22, reportedly using a new projectile with a cluster bomb warhead.

On Thursday, Israeli fighter jets carried out new airstrikes, targeting a building southwest of Sanaa, allegedly used by Ansar Allah’s top leaders as a hideout.

Following the attack, some local Yemeni outlets reported the killing of top leaders affiliated with Ansar Allah, including Prime Minister Ahmed Ghaleb al-Rahawi, Defense Minister Mohamed al-Atifi, and Chief of Staff Mohammad al-Ghamari. Israel said on Friday, August 29 that it was still confirming whether it succeeded in assassinating them.

On Saturday, August 30, the Ansar Allah-led Presidency of the Yemeni Republic confirmed in a statement â€śthe martyrdom of the Prime Minister in the Government of Change and Construction, Ahmad Ghaleb al-Rahawi alongside a number of his fellow ministers.”

The statement clarified that the Yemeni senior officials were targeted by “the Israeli criminal and treacherous enemy Thursday afternoon during a regular workshop, which is held by the government annually to evaluate its activities and performance.”

The Presidency also indicated that a number of other ministers sustained moderate and serious injuries in the assault, and that they have been receiving medical care ever since.

The names of the ministers who were killed or injured in the attack have not been disclosed by Ansar Allah yet. Moreover, it is still unknown whether Defense Minister Mohamed al-Atifi is among them.

However, the IOF seems to have failed in assassinating the Yemeni Chief of the General Staff, Major General Mohammed al-Ghamari, who defied Israel in a statement on Friday, declaring that the stance of Yemen in supporting the Palestinian people in Gaza will remain firm “regardless of the scale of aggression or sacrifices required”.

Al-Ghamari further threatened that the Israeli escalation “will be met with escalation.”

The head of the Ansar Allah-led Supreme Political Council, Mahdi al-Mashat, had also warned Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in a statement issued on Thursday, briefly after the Israeli strikes were carried out:

“You are dragging the Zionist entity to its end, and you have entered a challenge with a people whose struggle you are not equal to. We have foiled your conspiracies despite you, so wail as you wish. Your strikes will not shake a hair on the head of even our smallest children.”

Yemen’s Ansar Allah sinks two ships bound for Israel in the Red Sea

The two strategic operations are part of an escalation by the Yemeni resistance group against the Israeli occupation, in response to its continued genocide in Gaza.

The Ansar Allah-led Yemeni armed forces escalated their operations in the Red Sea last week against merchant vessels that violated the movement’s previously declared naval blockade by docking in the ports of occupied Palestine.

“Magic Seas”

The Yemeni Armed Forces’ spokesperson, Brigadier General Yahya Saree, announced in a televised speech on Monday, July 7, that Liberian-flagged Greek-operated cargo ship “Magic Seas” was struck, one day earlier, by two unmanned boats, five ballistic and cruise missiles, and three drones.

Saree added that the attack sank the ship, but the Yemeni Forces allowed its crew to safely evacuate.

“Eternity C”

On Wednesday, July 9, Ansar Allah released a video of an attack launched Monday on Liberian-flagged bulk carrier “Eternity C”, as it made its way to the occupied Palestinian city of Umm al-Rashrash (also known as Eilat).

Repeated warnings and calls by Ansar Allah’s naval forces for the crew to evacuate the vessel prior to the attack were heard at the beginning of the video. However, the ship continued sailing towards the port, ignoring the instructions.

Saree confirmed that “Eternity C” completely sank after it was targeted with an unmanned surface vehicle, and six cruise and ballistic missiles. He also pointed out that a special unit from the Yemeni naval forces moved to rescue several members of the vessel crew, who were provided with medical care and transported to a safe location.

According to media reports, the crew consisted of 25 members, four of whom were killed in the attack, 10 were saved after a 48-hour rescue operation, while 11 are still missing, including six who are believed to be taken by Ansar Allah to an unknown location.

Ansar Allah hits Ben Gurion Airport and vows to continue maritime blockade until Israel ends Gaza genocide

The recent escalation of Ansar Allah’s attacks has not been limited to the ban on Israel’s maritime navigation. Yemeni missiles have continued to target strategic sites in the depth of the territories occupied by Israel.

On Thursday, July 10, the Yemeni Armed Forces carried out a strike on the Israeli occupation’s Lod Airport (known as Ben Gurion) using a Zolfiqa precision ballistic missile. 

Ansar Allah confirmed the success of the operation in a statement, noting that it resulted in halting air traffic, and driving millions of panicked Israeli settlers into shelters after air raid sirens sounded in over 300 towns and cities occupied by Israel. 

The Yemeni resistance movement vowed to expand their operations by targeting more military and strategic Israeli sites inside occupied Palestine, while persisting with a maritime blockade on Israeli ports, until “the crimes of the Zionist entity in Gaza are brought to an end.”

Yemen’s Ansar Allah reaches ceasefire deal with US that excludes strikes on Israel

While Trump declared the truce agreement a US victory, Ansar Allah said that Washington contacted them in order to “avoid drowning in the mountains of Yemen”.

Yemen’s Ansar Allah movement reached a ceasefire deal with the United States on Wednesday, May 7, according to Oman, which mediated the negotiations.

The deal stipulates the halt of Ansar Allah’s attacks on US ships in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab Strait, and an end to US aggression on Yemen. However, it does not prevent the Yemeni movement from launching attacks on Israel. 

“Following recent discussions and contacts conducted by the Sultanate of Oman with the United States and the relevant authorities in Sana’a, in the Republic of Yemen, with the aim of de-escalation, efforts have resulted in a ceasefire agreement between the two sides,” Omani Foreign Minister, Badr Albusaidi, wrote on X.

“In the future, neither side will target the other, including American vessels, in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab Strait, ensuring freedom of navigation and the smooth flow of international commercial shipping,” the minister added.

Peoples Dispatch spokes to a member of the Communist Party of Jordan, Dr. Emad Al-Hatabeh, to discuss the ceasefire, which he described as a “sudden development in the war in the Red Sea.”

Dr. Emad Al-Hatabeh indicated that “both the US and Oman didn’t comment on Ansar Allah’s missiles targeting Israel, especially that this agreement was reached shortly after a Yemeni missile reached Ben Gurion airport, near the occupied city of Lydda (also known as Lod).”

As per Al-Hatabeh’s analysis, “important questions about this agreement are left without answers. Taking into consideration the Omani role in the American – Iranian negotiations, is the ceasefire in the Red Sea part of the deal? Another question will arise from this assumption, did America give up some of Israel’s interests in order to reach an agreement with Iran? Where does this agreement leave Netanyahu’s government, especially after Ansar Allah’s spokesman told Reuters that the agreement doesn’t include Israel.”

Ansar Allah says the US contacted them seeking a truce

One day before Oman announced that the deal was sealed, US President Donald Trump alluded that a ceasefire agreement was about to be reached, claiming that Ansar Allah agreed to stop the fight with the US because they “capitulated”. 

“They just don’t want to fight, and we will honor that and we will stop the bombings, and they have capitulated,” Trump said from the White House on Tuesday, May 6.

“They will not be blowing up ships anymore, and that’s what the purpose of what we were doing. So that’s just news. We just found out about that. So I think that’s very, very positive,” he added.

Although Trump bragged about the deal, presenting it as a US victory, analysts suggest that it was Ansar Allah that forced the world’s greatest military superpower to the negotiating table, after paralyzing US naval traffic off the Yemeni coast. 

Ansar Allah’s chief negotiator, Mohammed Abdulsalam, confirmed during an interview with Almasirah TV channel, that the movement “did not make any request to the Americans to hold ceasefire talks”. Abdulsalam asserted that, on the contrary, the movement recently received US requests and messages seeking a truce, via the Sultanate of Oman.

The Yemeni official pointed out that US endeavors to reach a ceasefire with Ansar Allah were a great disappointment to Israel. “The Israelis have endured great disappointment after the stance of the US, which tried to walk away and avoid drowning in the mountains of Yemen,” he said.

However, Abdulsalam clarified that Ansar Allah is still “assessing this US position so that the facts on the ground do not contradict its statements”. He further warned that in the event that the US “would not abide by the agreement in any way”, the movement “will respond”.

Abdulsalam considered the deal “a success to be added to Yemen’s credit, as it enhances a situation that would leave the “usurper entity” [Israel] in a situation of loneliness, in confrontation with the great popular and military stance led by Yemen on behalf of the Arab and Islamic nation.”

The ceasefire was announced two months after Trump ordered a large-scale aerial campaign against Yemen on the pretext of protecting US shipping, air, and naval assets and to restore “navigation freedom” from Ansar Allah’s attacks. Trump’s order followed Ansar Allah’s decision to resume a ban on Israeli ships due to Israel’s continuous blockade of humanitarian aid to Gaza.

Yemen threatens Israel with a devastating and painful response for attacking Sana’a airport 

While Ansar Allah agreed to a truce with the US, it vowed to escalate its operations against Israel as long as its blockade on humanitarian aid to Gaza is not lifted. 

In response to Israel’s aggression on Sana’a International Airport on Tuesday, that destroyed terminal buildings and caused USD 500 million in damage, Yemen’s Supreme Political Council Chairman, Mahdi al-Mashat, threatened that “Sanaa’s response will be devastating, painful, and beyond what the Israeli enemy can endure.”

“From this moment onward, stay in your shelters or leave for your homelands immediately. Your failed government will no longer be able to protect you,” Al-Mashat warned Israeli people. 

Moreover, the Yemeni senior official reaffirmed that no aggression will deter Yemen from its “rightful decision” to support the people of Palestine “until the genocide ends and the siege on Gaza is lifted.”

The Yemeni Armed Forces’ spokesman, Brigadier General Yahya Saree, also confirmed in a televised statement late Wednesday, that the movement will continue its ban on Israeli ships in the Red Sea and the Arabian Sea, alongside the comprehensive aerial blockade on Israel’s Ben Gurion Airport.

US and UK escalate aggression on Yemen as Signal scandal unfolds

The last couple of weeks saw an unprecedent escalation by the Western coalition against Yemen, after Ansar Allah resumed Red Sea operations in retaliation for Israel’s renewed genocide and aid ban in Gaza.

For nearly two weeks, the US has conducted daily airstrikes on Yemen. The UK also took part in the heavy, non-stop aggression in different areas across Yemen. 

In the early hours of Friday, March 28, US fighter jets hit more than 40 locations in the Arab country including the capital Sana’a, Saada, Marib, Al-Jawf, and Hodeidah governorates. The airstrikes reportedly left several people across the country injured. 

On Thursday, March 27, at least two people were killed and two others wounded in a series of US airstrikes that targeted the Yemeni capital Sana’a.

The aggression was launched one day after the US launched 15 airstrikes on the southern and northeastern regions of Sanaa, in addition to the vicinity of Sanaa International Airport. The US and the UK targeted the Saada governorate in northwestern Yemen with dozens of airstrikes on the same day as well.

The western coalition had already intensified its airstrikes against Yemen for several days before Wednesday, March 26. Dozens of people, including women and children, were reported killed in the fierce aerial campaign. 

US national security exposed after Signal chat on Yemen’s aggression plan leaked 

A huge scandal has rocked the Trump administration after internal national security deliberations related to the US plans to strike Yemen were mistakenly leaked through the Signal messaging application, on Monday, March 24. 

Contents of the Signal chat were published in The Atlantic after its Editor-in-Chief Jeffrey Goldberg was seemingly inadvertently added to the chat by US National Security Advisor Mike Waltz.

Goldberg disclosed the content of the chat, which was considered a huge breach of data security via a story published by The Atlantic. The journalist revealed that he knew that the US was planning to bomb different targets belonging to Ansar Allah across Yemen on March 15, two hours before the first airstrike was launched.  

Goldberg elaborated that he became aware of the plan once the US Secretary of Defense Pete Hesgeth texted him the information at 11:44 am. Goldberg said that “the plan included precise information about weapons packages, targets, and timing.”

The breach has provoked criticism and raised questions about the accountability in Trump’s cabinet as it has not only revealed sensitive details related to military-operations, but also what was perceived as institutional dishonesty inside the Trump administration. 

Downplaying the seriousness of the leak, Trump called the incident a “witch hunt” while speaking to reporters at the Oval Office. The US President instead focused on the success of the US airstrikes in Yemen. The White House also said that the leaked information shared via the commercial messaging application was not classified.

The Democrats slammed the Trump administration calling on the officials involved to resign. Meanwhile, the Republican and Democratic leaders of the Senate Armed Services Committee issued a bipartisan call for an expedited investigation into the breach.

Progressive movements and commentators have noted that amid the scandal, the attacks on Yemen themselves and their legality seem to be an afterthought for the Democrats who have instead focused their criticisms on the security violations of the officials’ communication.

Der Spiegel exposes new data security breach of Trump’s top officials 

While the Trump administration is trying to dismiss the embarrassing scandal, German news website Der Spiegel reported on Thursday, March 27 that it found the contact data of Trump’s most important security advisers via hacked data dumps and commercial providers. 

The leaked data included password details for Mike Waltz, Pete Hegseth, and Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, in addition to mobile phone numbers and email addresses. 

The website pointed out that these phone numbers and email addresses are apparently still in use, some of which are linked to accounts on social media networks like Instagram and LinkedIn.

Hamas, Ansar Allah launch attacks on Israel in retaliation for resumption of genocide in Gaza

The two resistance movements launched their attacks after Israeli warplanes killed hundreds of Palestinians in the span of a few days.

Yemen’s Ansar Allah announced on Thursday, March 19 that its armed forces targeted Ben Gurion Airport with a Palestine 2 hypersonic missile, affirming that the operation “successfully achieved its objective.”

On Friday, March 21, Ansar Allah announced that its forces carried out yet another strategic operation, targeting an Israeli military site south of the occupied city of Jaffa. The movement reaffirmed that its operations, alongside the blockade on Israeli navigation, would continue until Israel halts the aggression against Gaza and lifts the siege on the war-torn enclave. 

Meanwhile, the Al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas, launched a barrage of rockets at Tel Aviv on Thursday, March 20, and the coastal city of Ashkelon on Friday, March 21. The rockets and missiles launched from Yemen and Gaza reportedly disrupted flights at Ben Gurion airport. 

In the early hours of Saturday, March 22, Ansar Allah announced the targeting of Ben Gurion Airport for the second time within 48 hours, as well as a number of warships affiliated with the US aircraft carrier USS Harry Truman.

Ansar Allah further warned all airlines that “the so-called Ben Gurion Airport has become unsafe for air traffic and will remain so until the aggression against Gaza stops and the blockade is lifted.”

Both Ansar Allah and Hamas confirmed in statements that their attacks on the cities occupied by Israel were carried out in retaliation for Israel’s renewed genocidal aggression on Gaza that has left over 700 people dead and more than 1000 injured since Tuesday, March 18. 

With the toll of the renewed aggression, the number of Palestinians killed by Israel in the Gaza strip since October 2023 has surpassed 49,617. 

Yemen’s attacks on Tel Aviv prove that Gaza is not alone: says Abu Obaida

The spokesperson of the Al-Qassam Brigades, Abu Obaida, issued a statement via his Telegram channel on Thursday, praising Ansar Allah for their continuous support to the people of Gaza. 

“We salute our loyal brothers in Yemen for their honorable stance and direct support for their brothers and sisters in Gaza, despite the heavy price they pay for their unwavering commitment to Al-Aqsa and Palestine,” Abu Obaida wrote.

“Today, Yemeni missiles intersected with those from Gaza in the skies over Tel Aviv, reaffirming that Gaza is not alone.” He added. 

Furthermore, Al-Qassam’s spokesperson urged the free people of the Arab and Islamic nations “to engage in the battle to defend Al-Aqsa and to continue their support for Gaza, to break the back of the criminal zionist enemy and force it to halt its aggression.”

Hamas reaffirms that ceasefire talks are underway 

Although Al-Qassam launched retaliatory attacks on Israel, Hamas reaffirmed on Thursday that it is still committed to the Gaza ceasefire agreement.  

“Talks are underway with mediators to stop the aggression against our people and pressure the (Israeli) occupation to adhere to the ceasefire agreement,” Hamas spokesman Abdul Latif al-Qanou said in a statement.

“We are working with mediators to permanently spare our people war and to ensure the occupation’s withdrawal from the Gaza Strip,” Al-Qanou added.
