The former SNP MP and now Alba Party leader said the band was being targeted because it has been outspoken about Israel killing thousands of Palestinians in Gaza.

MacAskill told the BBC’s Scotcast: “I think it’s a kneejerk reaction to Kneecap, I think it’s utterly pointless.

“The band have issued an apology for what was a throwaway remark some two years ago taken entirely out of context.”

He continued: “People seem outraged about Kneecap having mentioned that throwaway line and yet Britain is facilitating genocide in Gaza, kids are dying by the score on a daily basis.

“I think I know where the real wrong is and the real wrong is what is being perpetrated by Israel, not a remark by the band Kneecap several years ago.”

A VIOLENT machete-armed misogynist and neonazi state agent was protected by MI5, which lied to three courts on his behalf, according to a BBC report today.

The Security Service told judges that it would not confirm or deny the identity of its agents, although it admitted to a BBC reporter that the man, identified only as Agent X, was in fact working for it.

MI5 has now been forced to apologise to the three courts that heard cases relating to X’s treatment of his then partner.

Spy chiefs also lied at a court hearing in a bid to block reporting of Agent X’s crimes.

They said they could not confirm his status, even though a BBC reporter had a recording of a senior MI5 official claiming legal authority to tell her that X was the service’s agent.

It has now issued an “unreserved apology” to the BBC and all three courts, describing what happened as a “serious error.”

Clarification published over false Newsnight claim following ban on former leader running as Labour candidate

The BBC has published a correction after a news item last month falsely claimed that former UK Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn had not apologised over antisemitism in the party. 

The clarification referred to an episode of the flagship current affairs programme Newsnight on 28 March, following the decision by Labour’s executive committee to ban Corbyn from standing as a candidate in the next election. 

The programme referenced Corbyn’s alleged “refusal to offer up any kind of apology” over accusations of antisemitism in the party under his watch. 

It also questioned whether the former leader would refuse to apologise “as he has all the way up to now”, if the issue of antisemitism arose in an election campaign. 

“To be clear, Mr Corbyn apologised for antisemitism in Labour on a number of occasions as Party Leader, including ahead of a meeting with Jewish community leaders in April 2018,” the BBC said on Thursday, in an entry on its “Corrections and Clarifications” page.
