People attending the People’s Assembly Against Austerity protest in central London, June 7, 2025
BRITAIN’S Communists meet tomorrow in Yorkshire for their 58th Congress. They will debate the urgent challenges faced by the left across the nations of Britain and more widely across the world.
Reactionary nationalism and racism, accelerated militarism and the abandonment of commitments on global warming all demand a new level of unity, a united front, not just as a slogan, but as a unifying solidarity across our communities and the organised labour movement.
How to secure that unity is a question that both unites but also sometimes divides the wider left. It is certainly not one that will be currently resolved by thinking purely in terms of political parties.
Keir Starmer says that the Labour Party under his leadership is intensely relaxed about assaulting those least able to defend themselves – the very poorest and most vulnerable.Nigel Farage urges you to ignore facts and reality and be a climate science denier like him and his Deputy Richard Tice. He says that Reform UK has received £Millions and £Millions from the fossil fuel industry to promote climate denial and destroy the planet.Nigel Farage explains the politics of Reform UK: Racism, Fake anti-establishmentism, Deregulation, Corporatism, Climate Change Denial, Mysogyny and Transphobia.

After Zohran Mamdani’s electoral win, BHABANI SHANKAR NAYAK points to the forgotten role of US communists in New York’s radical politics
AS THE dust of the recently concluded mayoral election settles in New York’s political consciousness, a new dawn begins.
Red babies are once again in the streets of Harlem, and it is now confirmed that 34-year-old Zohran Kwame Mamdani is the mayor-elect of New York City. Mamdani, a self-confessed socialist, is a member of both the Democratic Party and the Democratic Socialists of America.
His victory demonstrates that market-led bourgeois politics can be challenged and defeated by working people united around a clear, progressive political agenda.
New York is one of the richest cities in the world, yet one in four of its residents lives in poverty. The costs of housing, rent, childcare, transport, food and other essentials have become unaffordable for a dignified, basic life.
In this wealthy city, more than 500,000 children go to bed hungry each night. In response to such acute crisis, Mamdani offers politics of hope in the hopeless world of racialised capitalism in US.
Mamdani’s campaign promised to freeze rents, reduce the cost of childcare, double the minimum wage, provide free public transport and increase corporate tax rates. He also pledged to establish city-owned grocery stores, expand mental health services and promote community safety across New York.
These progressive policies are not radical enough for a total transformation but the policies are a necessary response to the times and essential for the survival and dignity of working people in New York.
Palestinians carry the bodies of those who were killed by an overnight Israeli air strike, during their funeral in Khan Younis, Gaza Strip, May 11, 2025
HISTORY will record British military support for Israel as “complicity with genocide,” Communist Party international secretary Kevan Nelson said at the weekend.
Recent reports indicate that Britain has sent 14 shipments of bombs, grenades, torpedoes, mines and F-35 fighter jet parts to Israel since October 2023, while the RAF has carried out more than 500 surveillance flights across Gaza, defended Israeli installations from retaliatory missile attacks and bombed Houthi targets on land and sea.
“The stated intention of the Israeli cabinet is to launch a full-scale offensive to occupy the whole of Gaza permanently, while settler extremists and the misnamed Israeli Defence Force wage war against native Palestinians on the West Bank,” Mr Nelson told his party’s executive committee.
“Israel appears exempt from all international and humanitarian law, while the US, EU states and Britain lecture the rest of the world about human and maritime rights, sending warships and warplanes to enforce Western interests from the Mediterranean to the Indian Ocean and South China Sea.
”He called on the Labour government to follow the example of the Irish Republic, Spain and 145 other countries and recognise Palestine as a sovereign state.
The Communist Party leadership branded Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s refusal to condemn Israeli genocide as “one of the most shameful episodes in Labour’s long and bloody record of supporting British and US imperialism around the world.”
Keir Starmer wanted for genocide and crimes against humanityUK Labour Party government Keir Starmer, Angela Rayner and Rachel Reeves explain that they are participants and complicit in Israel’s Gaza genocide providing Israel with army and air force support. They explain that they don’t do gas chambers but do do forced marches, starvation, destroy hospitals, mass-murders of journalists and healthcare workers.
Newly elected MP for Rochdale, George Galloway, speaks to the media outside the Houses of Parliament in Westminster, London after he was sworn in following his victory in the Rochdale by-election last week, March 4, 2024
GEORGE GALLOWAY’S “emphatic” victory in the Rochdale by-election is a warning to Labour, Britain’s communists say.
The Communist Party’s international secretary Kevan Nelson reminded its political committee earlier this week that the Workers Party candidate had overturned a 10,000 Labour majority.
He argued that Mr Galloway’s campaign “had combined internationalist support for the Palestinian people of Gaza with serious class politics,” calling for the return of A&E and maternity services and town centre regeneration.
Meanwhile, police officers criticised for searching campaigners’ coach and ‘undermining their right to protest’

THOUSANDS of people marched through the streets of Manchester today telling delegates to the Tory Party conference there that they are not welcome.
Headed by the banner of the Manchester People’s Assembly, which organised the march with the national People’s Assembly, the protesters represented trade unions and a huge diversity of campaign groups expressing their anger at the destruction wrought across society by the Tories.
Disabled people, peace activists and dozens more groups marched noisily through the city centre.
…
Protesters from all across the country took coaches to attend the march.
One coach transporting protesters from London was stopped by the police, who signalled the bus to follow them to Knutsford in Cheshire where it was searched by around 30 officers.
The protesters were late as a result. Activists said it undermined their right to protest and was a waste of police time and money.
Lorraine Douglas, from the Communist Party, said: “The sergeant came on and said they’d received intelligence that there were people on the bus set on doing criminal damage and they were going to search the bus for equipment that could cause criminal damage.”
The police went on to read a section of the Public Order Act.
“They refused to say what the intelligence was, and they got us all off the bus and searched the bus, found one flare and it looked like they had some magic markers or pens,” Ms Douglas said.
