The United Nations has expressed concern over the risk of ethnic cleansing in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, citing intensified military operations and the large-scale displacement of Palestinian civilians.
In a report released on Thursday, the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights said that escalating attacks, widespread destruction of residential areas and restrictions on humanitarian aid “appear designed to create a permanent demographic change in Gaza”.
The report stated that the systematic destruction of entire neighbourhoods, combined with forced displacement aimed at creating long-term removal of the population, raises serious concerns.
“This, along with forced displacement that appears designed to create a permanent displacement, raises concerns about ethnic cleansing in Gaza and the West Bank,” the report said.
Israeli officials have previously rejected allegations of ethnic cleansing, saying military operations are directed at armed groups and conducted in accordance with international law.
The UN report comes amid continued hostilities and warnings from humanitarian agencies about deteriorating living conditions for civilians in both Gaza and parts of the West Bank.

Smoke rises from the area following Israeli airstrikes, despite a ceasefire reached on November 27, 2024, in Sohmor town, Beqaa Valley, Lebanon, on January 15, 2026. [Ramiz Dallah – Anadolu Agency]
Two people were killed, and three others were injured in an Israeli drone strike on the Ain al-Hilweh Palestinian refugee camp in southern Lebanon on Friday, in the latest violation of a 2024 ceasefire deal, the Palestinian Red Crescent said, Anadolu reports.
Lebanon’s official National News Agency (NNA) reported that the strike hit the Hittin neighborhood inside the densely populated camp, located near the southern city of Sidon.
The airstrike caused material damage to the targeted building and surrounding structures.
The Palestinian Red Crescent in the Ain al-Hilweh camp said in a statement that two people were killed and three others injured in the attack.
Ambulances immediately arrived at the scene and transported the injured to hospitals in Sidon, which issued an urgent appeal for blood donations due to the severity of the injuries, NNA said.
The Israeli military claimed in a statement that it struck a Hamas command center in the Ain al-Hilweh area.
The Israeli army carried out a similar strike in November. 2025 in the same area where at least 13 people were killed and several others injured. Later, the army claimed that the attack targeted Hamas members inside the camp. It is alleged that the targeted facility was being used to plot attacks against Israel.
However, Hamas decried the attack as a “brutal assault” on civilians, saying the Israeli strike targeted a group of teenagers on an open sports field.
The latest attacks came amid repeated Israeli violations of the ceasefire agreement reached in November 2024, killing and wounding hundreds of Lebanese. Israel continues to occupy five Lebanese hilltops seized during the latest war, in addition to other Lebanese areas it has held for decades.

The UN chief condemned the killing of a 19-year-old dual Palestinian-American citizen in the occupied West Bank, his spokesman said Friday, Anadolu reports.
Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called for “a prompt, thorough and transparent” investigation into the circumstances of the incident and for those responsible to be held to account, Stephane Dujarric told a news conference.
His remarks came a day after Nasrallah Abu Siyam was shot and beaten in an attack by Israeli settlers in the village of Mukhmas in the occupied West Bank.
“In the same attack, settlers shot and injured three other Palestinians. The secretary-general extends his heartfelt condolences to the family and loved ones of the victim,” he said.
Guterres urged Israel “to take concrete steps to halt and prevent all acts of violence by Israeli settlers against (the) Palestinian population” in line with its “obligations as the occupying power,” Dujarric added.
On Feb. 3-16, Dujarric said Israeli forces killed three Palestinians, bringing the total number in 2026 to nine, including two children.
“Overall, since January 2023, and as of 16 February, some 880 Palestinian families – that’s over 4,700 people – have been displaced across the West Bank due to settler attacks and access restrictions,” he added.
Israel has intensified operations in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, since launching its military campaign in Gaza on Oct. 8, 2023. Palestinians view the escalation – including killings, arrests, displacement, and settlement expansion – as a step toward formal annexation of the territory.
In a landmark opinion in July 2024, the International Court of Justice declared Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territory illegal and called for the evacuation of all settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.

Palestinian group Hamas on Friday rejected Israeli claims that a strike on the Ain al-Hilweh Palestinian refugee camp in southern Lebanon targeted one of its command centers, calling the attack a “crime against civilians” and a violation of Lebanese sovereignty, Anadolu reports.
In a statement, Hamas condemned the attack as a “brutal aggression” by the Israeli army against the camp in the city of Sidon, saying the strike resulted in deaths and injuries among civilians.
“Targeting a camp that houses thousands of Palestinian refugees and is densely populated constitutes a dangerous escalation and a blatant disregard for international laws and norms,” the statement said.
The movement denied Israeli allegations that the targeted site was a Hamas facility, calling them “baseless pretexts that do not stand up to facts.” It said the attacked building belonged to a joint security force responsible for maintaining order and stability inside the camp.
It held the Israeli government fully responsible for the consequences of the strike and called on the international community and Arab and Islamic countries to take urgent action to halt ongoing attacks and ensure protection for Palestinians “wherever they are present.”
Earlier, two people were killed and three others injured in an Israeli drone strike on the camp, according to the Palestinian Red Crescent in Ain al-Hilweh.
Lebanon’s official National News Agency reported that the strike hit the Hittin neighborhood inside the densely populated camp, causing material damage to the targeted building and surrounding structures.

President Donald Trump listens during a Board of Peace meeting at the U.S. Institute of Peace, February 19, 2026, in Washington
PRESIDENT Donald Trump has now assembled the largest US military force in the Middle East since the disastrous and criminal Iraq invasion in 2003.
It is not there for show. The chatter from Washington is that a US attack on Iran is now a “90 per cent” likelihood.
It is still possible that the deployment is simply to pressure the Iranian regime into complying with US demands regarding its nuclear power programme and its wider policy across the region.
But Trump has already attacked Iran once during his second term, and he is under pressure from the Israeli government to move towards overthrowing the regime in Tehran, something that would require military action on a far larger scale than previously, and co-ordination with pro-US political forces like the son of the deposed Shah.
So the danger of war seems imminent. The anti-war and labour movements here in Britain need to be clear-sighted.
Any military action by Trump, or Israel, or both would be a gross violation of international legality and a criminal imperialist adventure which would risk an escalating conflict across the Middle East. The peoples of the region, including the Iranian people, would be the losers.
…
If Trump and Starmer want a peaceful and stable Middle East, Israel is the rogue power which needs to be curbed. Instead it is armed, supported and diplomatically protected by the imperialist powers.
These are not nuances, but the heart of the crisis in the Middle East. The anti-war and solidarity movements here must not be distracted from their main responsibility — challenging the imperialist interventions and alliances of the Starmer government — by the temptation to sit in moral judgement on those who are its targets.
The future of Iran is for the Iranian people alone to determine. US or Israeli military intervention must be firmly opposed, and the British government pressed to dissociate from any such plan.
