Israeli military Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir on Monday ordered an investigation into the leak of classified material used in a documentary that examines the Israeli military’s use of artificial intelligence in targeting civilians in Gaza.
Zamir also instructed the military’s chief legal adviser to examine whether legal action could be taken in connection with the documentary, titled “Naza,” and against individuals involved in its production, according to an Israeli military statement.
According to the film, AI-assisted targeting systems were used in Israeli attacks in Gaza that resulted in killing dozens of Palestinian civilians.
Zamir convened senior military officials on Monday to discuss the documentary and the allegations it raises.
The Israeli military said it rejected the film’s portrayal of its conduct based on excerpts and a promotional trailer that had been made public. It acknowledged, however, that it had not yet viewed the documentary in full.

The military said it had previously requested access to the complete film so that it could examine and respond to the allegations in detail.
Zamir strongly rejected the documentary’s characterization of Israeli military operations, accusing its producers of presenting false and distorted allegations against Israeli soldiers and commanders.
“Reports surfacing so far indicate that the film is neither a critique of the Israeli army nor an attempt to ascertain the truth,” Zamir said, describing its allegations as “blood libels” and a “deliberate distortion of reality.”
He further accused the documentary of seeking to portray the military as deliberately acting unlawfully and said it could contribute to efforts to delegitimise Israel’s military operations and expose Israeli personnel to legal and other risks.
