[Declassifieduk.org] Exclusive: As Israel uses F-35 fighter jets to bomb Iran and Gaza, we reveal parts for these warplanes were transported via London last month.

Fighter jet components were transported via London Stansted airport to Israel last month, shipping documents seen by Declassified and The Ditch indicate.

The documents show how parts were shipped from the US by Lockheed Martin, an arms giant and the prime contractor in the F-35 fighter jet programme.

They passed through London Stansted Airport between 21 and 27 May before being sent on to “F-35 Israel Site Base 28” in Nevatim airbase, which houses Israel’s squadrons of fighter jets.

The UK government suspended direct exports of F-35 parts to Israel last year but claimed it was not able to stop UK-made components being sent to Israel via third countries.

British ministers have said that stopping all F-35 exports would endanger “international peace and security” and suggested that Israel needs the advanced aircraft to “defend” itself against Iran.

Britain’s trade department further claimed it was not possible to track UK-made parts once they had entered global spares pools and stop them from being exported to Israel.

But the documents obtained by Declassified and The Ditch suggest it is possible to track shipments of F-35 components to Israel – including those passing through UK territory.

They further indicate how Britain continues to facilitate the F-35 supply chain to Israel even after the September arms restrictions, a finding which could implicate ministers in war crimes.

Jeremy Corbyn MP told Declassified: “Every day, we learn more and more about the true depths of UK complicity in war crimes.

“We must never lose sight of the fact that human beings are being torn apart and killed by F-35 jets – human beings who deserve to live a full life of happiness and peace like anyone else. 

“The government is doing everything it can to avoid a full, independent, public inquiry into the UK’s involvement in Israeli military operations in Gaza. This damning revelation helps to explain why. Momentum is shifting – we will expose the truth, and we will bring about justice for the Palestinian people”.

THERE is clear evidence British weapons are contributing to war crimes in Gaza, campaigners outside the High Court said yesterday as the government went on trial to defend its continued supply of arms to Israel.

The case, case brought by Palestinian human rights group Al-Haq, challenges the government’s decision to continue exporting components for F-35 jets, described by its US manufacturer Lockheed Martin as “the most lethal” fighter jet in the world.

Last September, the government enforced a partial ban on arms exports to Israel, suspending 30 out of 350 licences, after admitting there was a “clear risk” they could be used to violate international law.

But it carved out an exception for F-35 components, arguing that they are part of a global supply programme and important to international security.

Campaign Against the Arms Trade said that British industry manufactures 15 per cent of each jet, which have dropped 2,000lb bombs on “safe zones” in Gaza.

The government said the parts would not be sent directly to Israel, but allows them to be supplied via the global spares pool and F-35 partner countries, a move lawyers argue breaches international and domestic law.Raza Husain KC, for Al-Haq, said the loophole “gives rise to a significant risk of facilitating crime.”

Downing Street accepts ‘clear risk’ that fighter jet parts sold to Israel could be used to violate international humanitarian law, High Court hears

THE British government accepts there is a “clear risk” that parts for lethal fighter jets might be used by Israel to violate international humanitarian law but continues to export them anyway, the High Court heard today.

Global Legal Action Network (Glan) and human rights group Al-Haq have brought legal action against the Department for Business and Trade, accusing it of breaking its own rules by continuing exports if there is such a risk.

Between October and May, former business secretary Kemi Badenoch approved over 100 licences to Israel throughout its brutal onslaught on Gaza.

In September, the new Labour government eventually moved to ban just 30 out of 361 licences, excluding components for F-35 jets.

Described by its manufacturer Lockheed Martin as the “most lethal” fighter jet in the world, F-35s have been used extensively in Israel’s bloodshed.

Capable of dropping 2,000lb bombs, they are linked to the murder of 90 people in the al-Mawasi “safe zone” in July.

There are 79 companies registered in Britain that hold licences to export parts for the jet.
