“Make no mistake,” said Trita Parsi, “to periodically bomb a country is to fight a forever war.”

The US Defense Department is reportedly considering a new strategy for Iran that would entail bombing the country “periodically” in an effort to keep ship traffic flowing through the Strait of Hormuz, a plan that one analyst said would amount to the kind of forever war that President Donald Trump once vowed to avoid.

“During previous administrations, Israel tried to sell war with Iran to the US and conceded that military strikes would not knock out Iran’s nuclear program, but would require ‘periodic’ return to kinetic action to keep the program in check,” Trita Parsi, executive vice president of the Quincy Institute for Responsible Statecraft, wrote late Monday. “The US rejected the plan precisely because it didn’t want to be in a permanent state of war with Iran. Now, Trump’s secretary of war is pushing for it.”

Parsi’s comments came in response to new reporting by Axios indicating that Trump administration officials are weighing a plan under which US forces would “strike Iran periodically in order to keep moving dozens of oil tankers out of the Gulf relatively safely every day.”

Pentagon Secretary Pete Hegseth supports the plan, unnamed US officials told the outlet.

Axios’ reporting followed a Washington Post story detailing US military leaders’ warning that “prolonging large-scale operations against Iran is unsustainable,” increasing the likelihood of more limited strikes—though without a clearly defined timeline.

On Monday, Trump threatened to hit Iran “hard” in response to the country’s retaliatory attacks on American military installations in Jordan and the United Arab Emirates. The Iranian attacks followed a US bombing campaign on Larak Island, marking the first military exchange in weeks as the costly and unpopular war—which Trump said would last just weeks—drags on with no end in sight.

Iran pledged to respond “dozens of times greater” to future US attacks, warning that “no target in the region is beyond Tehran’s reach.”

“The invading US military has no choice but to leave the region,” the general staff of Iran’s armed forces said in a statement on Monday.

In his analysis, Parsi called the shifting US strategy “quite stunning,” noting that “only a week ago, [Treasury Secretary] Scott Bessent said sanctions would make military action unnecessary.”

“Six days later, the US bombed Iran again,” Parsi observed. “And now, Axios reveals that all along, the Pentagon was preparing a plan for ‘periodic’ bombings of Iran to prevent it from suppressing traffic in the Strait of Hormuz. What does this tell us? First, the administration is apparently giving up on solving the issue militarily, economically, or diplomatically. Instead, permanent warfare is needed to manage the problem.”

“Make no mistake,” Parsi continued, “to periodically bomb a country is to fight a forever war.”

     Israeli MK Ofer Cassif

Communist Party of Israel MP says US-Israeli attack on Iran was based on lies and only citizens standing up for peace can stop it

THE world risks being dragged into “forever war” by Donald Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu and only citizens standing up for peace can stop it, an Israeli MP warned today.

Knesset member Ofer Cassif of the Communist Party of Israel (CPI) told the Morning Star that the US-Israeli attack on Iran was based on lies — and was already a smokescreen for intensified violence and ethnic cleansing in occupied Palestine.

“Netanyahu wants forever war in his own interests. He’s interested in doing anything possible to keep himself out of prison, which by definition means staying in power, and he believes as long as the death and destruction in Israel doesn’t rise too high that war will help him in elections.

“Those around him, the coalition, are racist bigots — many of them, the majority are messianic and see this as part of a divine plan, and they’re bloodthirsty all right.

US aggression has been ramped up globally since the start of the year, and there is nothing defensive about the war in Iran. After all it was Trump himself who tore up the agreement that did exist between Iran and the West on its nuclear programme — which even the chairman of the Israeli Space Agency Isaac Ben-Israel acknowledged Tehran did not deviate from “by one millimetre.”

Last year, both Trump and Netanyahu claimed to have obliterated Iran’s nuclear programme. Eight months later they say it’s a threat again. “They lie.” Indeed, their aggression makes nuclear proliferation more likely: “The majority of experts in Israel, let alone outside it, say the harbinger of an Iranian nuclear bomb is Netanyahu.”

[T]he CPI was right to warn Israel would use the war to accelerate ethnic cleansing in Palestine.

Even before October 7, Cassif was warning Israel intended to carry out the “decisive plan” identified by its self-proclaimed fascist Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, which defines Palestine’s future in three options, “subjugation, expulsion and annihilation.”

Israel’s government plans to “annex all Palestinian territory without granting basic political or civil rights to Palestinians; expel all Palestinians who do not accept that fate; and kill those who try to resist.

“We saw that in Gaza — where the strategy was genocide. We see it in Israel, in fascism and the persecution of anyone who raises a voice against the government.

“And we see it in the West Bank. There is systematic ethnic cleansing in the West Bank, and since the war with Iran began, it’s worse. Entire communities are vanishing.”

Experiencing issues with this image not appearing. I suspect because it's so critical of Zionist Keir Starmer's support of and complicity in Israel's genocides.
Genocide denier and Current UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer is quoted that he supports Zionism without qualification. He also confirms that UK air force support has been essential in Israel’s mass-murdering genocide. Keir Starmer objects to criticism of the IDF. He asks how could anyone object to them starving people to death, forced marches like the Nazis did, bombing Gaza's hospitals and universities, mass-murdering journalists, healthworkers and starving people queuing for food, killing and raping prisoners and murdering children. He calls for people to stop obstructing his genocide for Israel.
