Gaza’s Health Ministry receives remains of 45 more Palestinians from Israel under ceasefire deal

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) receives the bodies of 45 Palestinians held by the Israeli army as part of a prisoner/ hostage exchange between Hamas and Israel, with the ninth group of remains transferred to Nasser Hospital in Khan Yunis, Gaza, on November 03, 2025. [Abed Rahim Khatib – Anadolu Agency] Gaza’s Health Ministry said Monday that it had received the remains of 45 Palestinians released by Israel via the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), raising the total number of bodies handed over to 270 under a ceasefire agreement, Anadolu reports.
The forensic teams have so far identified 78 bodies and are continuing examinations “in accordance with approved medical procedures and protocols” before the remains are documented and released to families, the ministry said in a statement.
The ministry had previously said that many of the bodies handed over by Israel showed signs of abuse, including beatings, bound hands, blindfolds, and facial disfigurement, and were returned without names.
The handover is part of the first phase of the ceasefire agreement that took effect on Oct. 10. The deal includes the exchange of prisoners and bodies between Israel and Hamas, brokered by Turkiye, Egypt, and Qatar, with US oversight.

Families have been identifying the remains of their relatives, returned from Israel without names, by physical markings or clothing, as forensic facilities in Gaza remain out of service due to a years-long Israeli blockade and the destruction of laboratories.
Before the ceasefire, Israel held 735 Palestinian bodies in so-called “cemeteries of numbers,” according to the Palestinian National Campaign to Retrieve Martyrs’ Bodies.
According to the Israeli daily Haaretz, the army has been holding about 1,500 bodies of Palestinians from Gaza at the notorious Sde Teiman military base in southern Israel.
Israel has killed more than 68,800 people, mostly women and children, and injured over 170,600 others in attacks in Gaza since October 2023.

Qraiqea – Anadolu Agency] The Gaza Municipality warned on Monday of an imminent environmental and health disaster in the city, with more than a quarter of a million tonnes of waste accumulating in various areas. The crisis is worsened by a severe shortage of drinking water and the leakage of sewage, posing a threat to the lives of hundreds of thousands of residents.
The municipality’s spokesperson, Assem Al-Nabih, said in a recorded statement that “Gaza City is facing serious health and environmental crises, which are causing the spread of rodents and insects amid a shortage of water and massive piles of waste across different neighbourhoods.”
Al-Nabih explained that the municipality is unable to deal with the crisis, as more than 85 per cent of its heavy and medium machinery has been destroyed during the two-year-long Israeli war.
He also pointed out the lack of essential equipment and supplies needed to provide basic services.
Al-Nabih added that large amounts of sewage have leaked into city streets, worsening the health and environmental situation, and warned that epidemics could spread if the current conditions persist.

Daily struggle continues for Palestinians who returned to their homes after the ceasefire agreement, trying to build a new life in the city devastated by Israeli attacks, in Jabalia, Gaza on October 25, 2025. Jaras – Anadolu Agency] Senior Hamas official Moussa Abu Marzouk has reiterated that the movement remains morally and humanitarianly committed to returning the bodies of Israeli soldiers recovered in Gaza, while emphasising that no specific timeline has been set for the process.
In remarks released on Sunday, Abu Marzouk said Israel was seeking pretexts; including claims of delayed repatriations, to evade the current agreement and potentially resume military operations.
He accused Israel of continuing to violate the terms of the truce by targeting areas designated as safe zones and further damaging Gaza’s already devastated infrastructure.
Abu Marzouk also criticised US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, describing him as “the foreign minister of Israel” over his recent statements against the UN Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA). He stressed that UNRWA “represents the lifeblood of the Palestinian people in Gaza and is indispensable.”
The Hamas official argued that current US pressure on Israel is motivated not by sympathy for Hamas but by a desire to prevent Israel from deepening its own crisis, amid shifting global opinion and growing dissent among Jewish public figures over Israeli policies.
Abu Marzouk warned against any attempt to disarm Hamas or remove it from security control in Gaza, saying such measures would plunge the enclave into chaos and internal strife.
He also questioned the feasibility of deploying international forces in Gaza without a just and sustainable framework, citing past failures in Bosnia and Iraq.
“True stability will only be achieved through the presence of a dominant force on the ground that believes in agreements and can impose security,” Abu Marzouk concluded.

Protests in 18 cities and hunger strikes planned to reform Britain’s repressive terror laws
PROTESTS in 18 towns and cities and Britain’s biggest hunger strike since the Troubles were announced today amid intensifying calls to reform Britain’s repressive terror laws behind the ban on Palestine Action.
Organisers said around 1,500 people could take part in the demonstrations next month, while others will begin rolling hunger strikes this Sunday.
More than 2,000 people have been arrested for allegedly supporting Palestine Action during mass events where protesters held placards saying “I oppose genocide. I support Palestine Action,” after it was proscribed as a terrorist group in July.
Suspects face up to two years in jail without charge.

The demonstrations come ahead of a legal hearing against former home secretary Yvette Cooper’s decision to proscribe the group under anti-terror laws.
Defend Our Juries spokesman Dr Clive Dolphin said: “This is about here in the UK, people having the right to protest, the right to speak up to government when they think the government has got something wrong, and fundamentally this is about the fact that the British people oppose genocide.
“They do not want to be complicit in war crimes. They do not want to see people starved to death in an artificial famine. British people oppose genocide.”
