Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has told ministers in his government that he has received a green light from US President Donald Trump to launch an attack in Lebanon, according to Israel’s public broadcaster Kan on Wednesday evening.
The report comes a few days after Kan said, citing two informed sources, that Israel is considering a military operation in Lebanon aimed at eliminating what it described as the “Hezbollah threat”.
Kan said Netanyahu discussed expanding Israeli attacks in Lebanon with President Trump during a meeting in Florida in late December.
According to the broadcaster, Hezbollah has been able to rebuild some of its capabilities during the ceasefire. Israeli officials also claimed that the Lebanese government is unable to confront the group.
The sources added that the Trump administration does not rule out the possibility of Israel carrying out an operation against Hezbollah. However, they said Netanyahu was asked to delay any decision to allow further dialogue with the Lebanese government.
This assessment comes amid ongoing tension along the Lebanese–Israeli border and growing debate in Israel about the failure of political and diplomatic efforts to force Hezbollah to disarm, raising the prospect of a new phase of careful military calculations.

Two Palestinians were killed and three others injured in an Israeli airstrike in Gaza City on Wednesday, a medical source said, marking a new violation of last year’s ceasefire deal.
The strike targeted a house in al-Tuffah neighborhood in eastern Gaza City, an area from which the Israeli army had withdrawn under the ceasefire deal, the source told Anadolu.
The Israeli army claimed that its forces came under fire in northern Gaza.
The Israeli army has killed more than 71,400 people, mostly women and children, and injured over 171,000 others in a brutal offensive since October 2023 that has left the enclave in ruins.
Despite the ceasefire that took effect on Oct. 10, 2025, the Israeli army continued its attacks, killing 424 Palestinians and wounding 1,189 others, according to the Health Ministry.

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) announced on Monday that its teams have been unable to visit Palestinian detainees held in Israeli detention centres since October 2023.
In a statement, the committee said it had not received approval to access the detainees during this period. It stressed the importance of being informed about the status and location of all detainees and being allowed to carry out its humanitarian work in accordance with international humanitarian law.
The ICRC underlined the need to ensure humane treatment for detainees, provide decent detention conditions, and allow them to communicate with their families.
The statement added that many Palestinian families are living in deep anxiety while waiting for any information about their detained relatives.
The committee said it continues to hold talks with Israeli authorities to resume visits to all Palestinian detainees, without giving a specific timeline.
So far, there has been no official response from Israeli authorities regarding the statement.

Israeli forces reported blew up a 5-year-old girl and wounded two other children a day after fatally shooting a 15-year-old boy in Gaza.
With the world captivated by and concerned over the Trump administration’s weekend abduction of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, Israel bombed the Gaza Strip and Lebanon, continuing its devastating US-backed response to the Hamas-led October 2023 attack.
In Gaza, where Israel faces widespread accusations of genocide, an Israeli strike on Monday “hit a tent housing displaced people, killing a 5-year-old girl and her uncle and wounding two other children,” the Associated Pressreported, citing officials at Nasser Hospital. “Family members wept over the bodies as they were brought to the hospital.”
The Israel Defense Forces used one of its common claims for when it kills civilians. According to the AP, the IDF said that it struck a Hamas militant who planned an imminent attack on Israeli troops in Gaza, the strike complied with the ceasefire agreement, and it was conducted in a targeted way to limit civilian harm.
The tent strike in the Muwasi area northwest of Khan Younis came a day after Israeli forces shot and killed at least three Palestinians in that city on Sunday. According toReuters, “Medics reported that the dead included a 15‑year‑old boy, a fisherman killed outside areas still occupied by Israel in the enclave, and a third man who was shot and killed east of the city in areas under Israeli control.”

Israel has killed at least 422 Palestinians in Gaza and wounded 1,189 since reaching the ceasefire deal with Hamas three months ago. The overall death toll in the strip has climbed to at least 71,388, with another 171,269 people injured, according to local health officials. Global experts warn the true counts are likely far higher.
Meanwhile, according toAl Jazeera, journalists on the ground in the illegally occupied Palestinian territory observed that the IDF “has spent the past 24 hours expanding the so-called ‘yellow line’ in eastern Gaza,” or the boundary behind which Israeli forces officially withdrew as part of the October deal.

The ongoing Israeli attacks on the ground, the expansion of the “yellow line,” are meant to eat up more of the territory across the eastern part, really shrinking the total area where people are sheltering.
Everyone is cramped here. The population here not just doubled but tripled in many of the neighborhoods, given the fact that none of these people is able to go back to their neighborhoods. We’re talking about Zeitoun, Shujayea, as well as Tuffah.

Mahmoud also reported that “there’s nothing on the ground other than the headlines we’ve been reading over the past couple of days, the expectation now that within days the Rafah crossing is going to open and allow for movement in and out of Gaza. So far, we know the Israeli military is pushing for Rafah to be just a one-way exit.”
Throughout the Israeli assault, far-right officials in Israel have ramped up calls to ethnically cleanse Gaza of its Palestinian population and recolonize the territory. There has also been a surge in violence from Israeli settlers and soldiers against Palestinians in the illegally occupied West Bank over the past two years, as well as renewed settlement-building efforts there.
Laila Al-Arian, an American journalist and executive producer for Al Jazeera‘s documentary series “Fault Lines,” said on social media Sunday, “With eyes on Venezuela, Israel is bombing Gaza and escalating its assault on the West Bank.”
In November 2024, nearly a year before the ceasefire agreement in Hamas, Israel struck a deal with the Lebanese political and paramilitary group Hezbollah—and, since then, as with Gaza, has repeatedly violated it.
Israel launched strikes on eastern and southern Lebanon on Monday after an IDF spokesperson said the military would target alleged Hezbollah sites in Kfar Hatta and Ain el-Tineh, and Hamas sites in Annan and al-Manara.
Al Jazeerareported that “Lebanon’s Health Ministry said a drone strike on a car in the southern village of Braikeh earlier Monday wounded two people. The Israeli military said the strike targeted two Hezbollah members.”

Israel on Sunday began revoking the operating licenses of 37 international organizations delivering humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, saying they failed to meet requirements under new registration rules, according to the Israeli broadcasting authority KAN.
On Tuesday, the Israeli government began sending official notices to dozens of international organizations informing them that their licenses would be canceled starting from January 2026, and requiring them to end their activities by March of the same year.
“Following the entry into force of the registration mechanism for international organizations in Gaza, the process of barring 37 international organizations from operating has begun,” said the broadcaster.
Israel claims that “these organizations collectively transferred less than 1% of total humanitarian aid throughout the war, and that the scope of aid will not be affected by this decision,” the broadcaster reported.
The broadcaster claimed that security investigations revealed the involvement of employees from Doctors Without Borders in “terrorist activities,” alleging that in two main cases, the organization withheld full information about the identities and roles of its staff.
However, according to the Israeli daily Haaretz, Israel’s decision in November to revoke the licenses of international relief organizations is rooted in purely political reasons.
Israel previously took similar steps against the UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA). In 2024, the Knesset passed legislation banning the UN agency’s activities in Israel, citing allegations that some UNRWA employees were involved in the Oct. 7, 2023, events, claims the agency has denied. The UN has said UNRWA adheres to strict neutrality standards.
Israeli authorities later escalated measures against the agency, passing a law to cut water and electricity supplies to UNRWA facilities.
