US Central Command (CENTCOM) chief Brad Cooper and Israeli army Chief of General Staff Eyal Zamir have discussed boosting defense cooperation between the two sides, Anadolu reports.

The talks took place during an extended meeting held on the sidelines of Cooper’s visit to Israel, which began on Saturday, Israeli army spokesperson Avichay Adraee said in a statement on Sunday.

Adraee said Adm. Cooper held “a lengthy personal meeting” with Zamir, followed by a broader session attended by senior commanders.

He said the meeting served as “an additional factor strengthening the personal relationship between the two commanders, the close strategic relationship between the Israeli and US militaries, and the continued enhancement of defense cooperation between the two countries.”

During his visit to Israel, whose duration has not been specified, Cooper is also scheduled to meet Israeli Air Force Commander Tomer Bar, according to Israel’s Channel 12.

The visit comes amid growing concerns in Israel over the possibility that Iran could carry out a preemptive attack, alongside rising fears that Tehran may be close to being targeted by a potential US military strike, as the US continues to build up its forces in the region.

The Israeli army killed three Palestinians on Sunday and carried out a series of airstrikes across various parts of the Gaza Strip, Anadolu reports.

One Palestinian was killed after an Israeli drone opened fire in an area from which the army had withdrawn under the ceasefire agreement northwest of the city of Rafah in southern Gaza, a medical source told Anadolu.

The Israeli army also killed a fisherman, another medical source said.

According to local sources, Israeli naval forces fired gunshots off the coasts of Khan Younis and Rafah in southern Gaza earlier Sunday.

On the northwestern outskirts of Rafah, a medical source said another Palestinian was shot in the head by Israeli forces, describing his condition as “critical.”

Local sources said that the area where the Palestinian was injured is among those from which the Israeli army withdrew under the ceasefire agreement.

A 15-year-old boy was killed by Israeli gunfire in the Joura Al-Lout area, south of the city of Khan Younis in southern Gaza, from which the army had withdrawn under the agreement, a medical source told Anadolu.

Another Palestinian sustained a gunshot wound to the thigh after the Israeli naval opened fire off the coast of Deir al-Balah in central Gaza, medical sources and eyewitnesses told Anadolu.

Israeli warplanes also carried out a series of airstrikes on various areas north and west of Rafah.

Meanwhile, the Israeli army carried out demolitions of residential buildings in eastern Khan Younis, accompanied by artillery shelling of areas that are under its control under the agreement.

Separately, Israeli warplanes launched a series of airstrikes on different areas in northern Gaza and east of Gaza City.

In central Gaza, Israeli military vehicles opened indiscriminate fire toward the eastern areas of the Bureij refugee camp.

Since the ceasefire agreement came into effect on Oct. 10, the Israeli army has committed hundreds of violations, killing 420 Palestinians and wounding 1,184 others, according to the Health Ministry.

The ceasefire halted Israel’s two-year war that killed nearly 71,400 Palestinians, most of them women and children, injured more than 171,200 others, and left the enclave in ruins. But despite the ceasefire, Israel’s deadly attacks on Gaza continue.

The Israeli army warned of “mass personnel exodus” amid a surge in resignation requests by officers and soldiers, local media said Tuesday, Anadolu reports.

The Israeli army is suffering from a “mass exodus of officers and non-commissioned officers after they submitted resignation requests,” the daily Yedioth Ahronoth said.

“So far, there have been 500 requests from officers and NCOs in the regular forces seeking to be relieved of their positions in the army,” the paper said, without specifying when these requests were submitted.

The army is “warning of a steady rise in resignation requests, indicating a real manpower crisis affecting all age groups and military ranks, which has now reached a boiling point.”

The Israeli army expects more resignation requests from permanent personnel serving in the regular forces, the daily said.

According to the report, the Knesset has yet to approve legal amendments allowing an increase in pension entitlements for officers and soldiers by rates ranging between 7-11%.

The newspaper explained that the 500 resignation requests were submitted by permanent personnel in regular service, not reservists, and stem from low salaries amid significant attrition from military service, particularly during the war on the Gaza Strip.

The army is “struggling to convince thousands of officers and non-commissioned officers to continue permanent service, with the expected outcome being a decline in the army’s overall performance,”

Israel has killed nearly 70,700 people, mostly women and children, and injured over 171,000 in Gaza since October 2023 and reduced the enclave to rubble.

Oscar winning Spanish actor Javier Bardem condemned the Israeli army for adopting the Nazi “logic of terror and dehumanization” against Palestinians, Anadolu reports.

Bardem shared a video on the US social media company Instagram’s platform showing an Israeli sniper shooting a Palestinian for fun and said: “The IDF (Israel Defense Forces) are NAZIS.”

In the caption, he compared the act to scenes from the movie Schindler’s List, invoking the image of Nazi officer Amon Goth, who he said “embodied the banality of evil and the impunity of cruelty within an oppressive military apparatus.”

“Today, that same logic of terror and dehumanization is what the IDF applies against the Palestinian people,” he added.

The video first circulated online in 2018 and is believed to be related to an incident that took place in December 2017, when the Israeli sniper shot and injured a man in his leg.

Bardem is known for his criticism of Israeli attacks on Gaza, as he previously denounced the Israeli government for committing “crimes against humanity” in the Gaza Strip and urged the international community to hold those responsible to account.

A joint investigation by The Guardian, Israeli-Palestinian publication +972 Magazine and the Hebrew-language outlet Local Call revealed Thursday that five out of six Palestinians killed by Israeli forces in the Gaza Strip are civilians, according to the Israeli military’s own data.

Israel has killed more than 62,100 Palestinians in Gaza since October 2023. The military campaign has devastated the enclave and led to food shortages and deaths from starvation.

The Israeli army warned Palestinians Friday to evacuate two areas west of Gaza City, inhabited by thousands of civilians, including displaced people, ahead of an attack, Anadolu reports.

In a statement, the Israeli army said: “To the residents of the Gaza City area in Blocks 783 and 784, evacuate the area immediately, as we will attack it with great force.”

The Israeli army attached a map showing the targeted areas, indicating the presence of vital civilian and service facilities.

The two areas, known as Blocks 783 and 784, include a hospital, offices of a Palestinian human rights organization, two universities, and a UN site, as well as densely populated Palestinian neighborhoods.

According to an Anadolu reporter, the areas are located in the southern Rimal neighborhood and include thousands of families along with displaced people residing in schools and camps, as well as tents set up in streets and open lands, after fleeing from the eastern areas of Gaza City and northern Gaza due to the Israeli bombardment and previous evacuation orders.

Rejecting international calls for a ceasefire, the Israeli army has pursued a brutal offensive on the Gaza Strip since Oct. 7, 2023, killing nearly 57,800 Palestinians so far, most of them women and children. The relentless bombardment has destroyed the enclave and led to food shortages and the spread of diseases.

Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.

Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave.
