Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir escalated his rhetoric on Monday, calling for the arrest of Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas and the lifting of immunity for senior PA officials, amid growing international discussion of establishing a Palestinian state.
Speaking at the opening of a meeting of his far-right “Jewish Power” bloc, Ben-Gvir said recent days had seen “an alarming increase” in — a concept he vowed to oppose “under any circumstances,” according to the Hebrew daily Yediot Aharonot.
Ben-Gvir warned that none of the Palestinian Authority leadership enjoys immunity, delivering a direct message to Abbas and other PA officials. He said that if Israel or the United Nations were to recognize a Palestinian state, Israeli authorities should issue orders for “precise assassinations” targeting top PA figures and proceed with the arrest of Abbas.
He went further, claiming that “a solitary confinement cell is already prepared” for Abbas at Ketziot Prison in southern Israel.

Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir led a large-scale police raid in the mixed cities of Lod and Ramla on Wednesday evening, accompanied by a substantial force from Israeli police and special units.
Videos posted by Ben-Gvir on the X platform showed police officers forcing Palestinian residents to lie face down on the ground, with shouting heard in the background. The footage also showed Ben-Gvir entering homes and walking through neighbourhoods while residents were handcuffed and surrounded by heavily armed officers.
Ben-Gvir claimed the operation aimed to “eradicate the phenomenon of weapons and gunfire” in Arab communities, praising the participation of the army, police, and Border Guard forces. Critics, however, described the raid as a publicity-driven show of force and a continuation of repressive policies targeting Palestinian citizens of Israel.
The incident sparked widespread outrage among Palestinian communities and rights groups, who accused Ben-Gvir of using policing operations as political theatre and escalating tensions within mixed cities.
The raid follows a series of highly controversial actions by Ben-Gvir, including repeated incursions into the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound, and a visit to Negev Prison in late October, where he appeared in a video threatening Palestinian detainees and calling to execute them.

Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir warned on Monday that his far-right Otzma Yehudit party will suspend support for all coalition legislation unless Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government advances a bill imposing the death penalty on Palestinian prisoners within the next three weeks.
Speaking during a meeting of his party’s Knesset faction, Ben-Gvir accused Netanyahu’s Likud party of violating the coalition agreement, which, he claimed, included a commitment to pass a death penalty law during the current Knesset term.“If the death penalty law is not brought to a vote within three weeks, Otzma Yehudit will not participate in votes on coalition bills,” Ben-Gvir declared. He criticised the government for what he called a series of “excuses” to delay the legislation—first before the war, and later during it. “After the war began, they said the law might endanger the kidnapped soldiers,” Ben-Gvir said. “But now, with the return of the living captives, that excuse is no longer valid.”
Ben-Gvir argued that enacting the death penalty would serve as “a significant lever of pressure on Hamas” and should be part of Israel’s “toolbox” in its war on the group. The minister also renewed calls for an escalation in the military campaign, saying Israel should move from limited strikes to full-scale operations.
“We are not in another round of fighting but in a war of revival,” he said. “The goal is not to exact a price from Hamas—it is to annihilate it. The time has come for renewed, intense fighting until that goal is achieved.”
The ultimatum highlights growing tensions within Israel’s ruling coalition, as far-right ministers push for harsher measures against Palestinians while Netanyahu faces both domestic and international pressure over the conduct of the war in Gaza.
