The World Health Organization (WHO) announced on Thursday that around 42,000 people in Gaza, a quarter of them children, are living with war-related injuries that have caused permanent disabilities and will require long-term medical care.

According to a WHO report, out of an estimated 167,376 people injured since October 2023, one in four has suffered lasting damage, including more than 5,000 amputations.

Other serious injuries reported include over 22,000 limb injuries, more than 2,000 spinal cord injuries, nearly 1,300 traumatic brain injuries, and over 3,300 severe burns.

These injuries need a “further increasing the need for specialized surgical and rehabilitation services and deeply affecting patients and their families across Gaza.,” the organisation said, noting that “One in four of these injuries are in children.”

WHO’s representative in the occupied Palestinian territory, Richard Peeperkorn, told a press conference: “Lifelong rehabilitation will be essential.”

Gaza’s already fragile health system has been pushed beyond its limits and is unable to cope with the overwhelming needs caused by the conflict. Only 14 out of 36 hospitals remain partially functioning, while rehabilitation services have been reduced to a third of their pre-war capacity.

Keir Starmer objects to criticism of the IDF. He asks how could anyone object to them starving people to death, forced marches like the Nazis did, bombing Gaza's hospitals and universities, mass-murdering journalists, healthworkers and starving people queuing for food, killing and raping prisoners and murdering children. He calls for people to stop obstructing his genocide for Israel.

French opposition party La France Insoumise (LFI) on Friday called on President Emmanuel Macron to expel Israel’s ambassador to France following the attack on Global Sumud Flotilla, Anadolu reports.

In an interview with broadcaster RTL, LFI parliamentary leader Mathilde Panot “solemnly called on Emmanuel Macron to expel the Israeli ambassador to France.”

Underlining that it is “not acceptable” to host the representative of a state “committing genocide,” Panot said that the Israeli ambassador “has no place” in France anymore.

“It is no longer acceptable to allow on our soil a representative of a state that has, on three occasions, illegally kidnapped a legitimate mission,” she said.

Panot further said that France “is doing absolutely nothing” to protect the flotilla.

Israeli naval forces attacked and seized vessels of the Global Sumud Flotilla on Thursday and Friday, and detained more than 450 activists from over 50 countries. The flotilla had been attempting to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza and challenge Israel’s blockade of the enclave.

The flotilla is an international initiative to break the blockade on Gaza, home to nearly 2.4 million people, imposed by Israel for almost 18 years.

Since October 2023, Israeli bombardments have killed nearly 66,300 Palestinians, most of them women and children, in the enclave and rendered it uninhabitable.

Spain’s Deputy Prime Minister Yolanda Diaz urged Europe on Friday to terminate all association agreements with Israel, Anadolu reports.

“I am sending a message to the international community, essentially to Europe. We want more. All association agreements with Israel must be completely broken off,” Diaz told reporters.

Stressing that Israel violates international law, she noted that the European community looks the other way.

“The European community did what it had to do under international law when (Russian President) Putin illegitimately invaded Ukraine, and we sanctioned Russia. In Gaza, should we not do the same? Well, we believe we should,” Diaz added.

She also demanded the immediate release of Spanish citizens detained by Israel following its attack on the Gaza-bound Global Sumud Flotilla.

“I truly believe our country is exemplary. Exemplary. Just yesterday, people took to the streets to demonstrate everywhere,” she said, adding: “All of Europe is mobilizing—but there cannot be such a wide gap between the people and the European Commission.”
