Iran strongly condemned the latest US strikes on its territory late on Sunday, accusing Washington of derailing all diplomatic efforts made in recent months to reduce tensions in the region, according to a statement from the Iranian Foreign Ministry.

Tehran also accused the United States of blatantly violating all provisions of a memorandum of understanding signed in June and of causing renewed insecurity in the Strait of Hormuz and disrupting international commercial shipping, according to the statement.

The Foreign Ministry said Washington had violated almost all provisions of the memorandum of understanding signed between the two countries just 25 days ago by carrying out attacks on Iran’s transport infrastructure.

According to the statement, the US strikes targeted key facilities in southern Iran, including Sirik Commercial Port, Chabahar Port, weather monitoring stations, fishing piers and shipping containers.

The ministry also said the bombing hit a railway bridge in Khorasan Province, suspending train services and disrupting the travel of people attending the funeral of Iran’s late Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei. It described the attack as “one of the most horrific war crimes committed by Washington against the Iranian people”.

The statement said “The US regime has also caused the return of insecurity in the Strait of Hormuz and disruption of international commercial shipping by openly interfering in the process of Iran implementing the necessary arrangements in the Strait of Hormuz.”

The Foreign Ministry added that the US military, by using the territory and facilities of countries on the southern coast of the Gulf to prepare its military attacks against Iran, had effectively turned those countries into a battlefield for what it described as its “illegal and criminal war” against the Iranian people.

The statement said Iran, “in exercising its legitimate right to self-defence”, would respond to any attack “at any level and scale” in accordance with international law. It added that the United States cannot achieve its objectives through these terrorist attacks because the Iranian people have repeatedly demonstrated throughout history their ability to withstand the strongest and most aggressive powers.

The Foreign Ministry concluded by saying that the continued US attacks mean Iran is no longer obliged to adhere to the memorandum of understanding. It stressed that Tehran would remain committed to the agreement as long as the other side honours it, but would not accept violations of its provisions or “tolerate the continuation of hostile acts”.

“The Strait of Hormuz will be completely closed to all maritime traffic” following any strike against Iran, an informed security source told Press TV.

The source added that Iran will also strike “enemy targets at a ratio of at least two to one, meaning that for every Iranian target hit, at least two enemy targets will be struck in return.”

US President Donald Trump earlier said that the US will “probably” hit Iran again on Wednesday night, following overnight US strikes in retaliation for attacks on ships in the Strait of Hormuz.

Trump also said that the memorandum of understanding signed last month with Iran to end the conflict was “over.”

“Any threat will receive a powerful response,” the Iranian source said. “Iran does not distinguish between the United States and its partners in the region.”

The source said Tehran will not back down from its management of the Strait of Hormuz and “is prepared to fight to maintain control over the strategic waterway.”

“The memorandum of understanding signed on this matter clearly states that Iran will reopen the Strait in accordance with its own arrangements. Therefore, Iran will not permit the establishment of any new route outside the framework of its own arrangements,” the source said.

Early Wednesday, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said that it had launched missile and drone strikes targeting 85 US military sites in the region, including Salman Port and the US Navy’s Fifth Fleet headquarters in Bahrain, and Ali Al-Salem Air Base in Kuwait.

The attacks came after the US military’s Central Command said it had carried out a new round of strikes against Iran, hitting more than 80 targets in response to Iranian attacks on commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran says IAEA inspectors ‘will not be granted any access’ to bombed nuclear sites

Iran’s Parliament Speaker and top negotiator Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf said Wednesday inspectors from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) “will not be granted any access” to its bombed sites, Anadolu reports.

“Parliament itself passed the law, and the Supreme National Security Council has also adopted a corresponding resolution,” Qalibaf said in televised remarks posted on his Telegram channel.

“Under this law, no access whatsoever will be granted to sites that have been bombed and damaged,” he added.

The speaker stressed that Tehran “will not grant any access” beyond what has been authorized by the country’s Supreme National Security Council.

“The IAEA inspectors are only entitled to the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant and the Tehran Research Reactor,” he added.

His comments come as a memorandum of understanding between Washington and Tehran, brokered by Pakistan, entered into force on June 18 after it was electronically signed by Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and his US counterpart Donald Trump.

The agreement provides a framework for ending the war that began in late February and addressing outstanding issues between Washington and Tehran through negotiations, including a cessation of hostilities across all fronts, including Lebanon, sanctions relief, the nuclear file, the full reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and broader regional security arrangements.

Trump says Iran pact ‘not final,’ warns of renewed strikes

US President Donald Trump said Wednesday that the deal announced with Iran this week is a “memorandum of understanding” and remains subject to change, Anadolu reports.

“If I don’t like it, we’ll go back to shooting at them,” Trump told reporters during a meeting with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.

He warned that if Iran’s leaders “don’t behave,” the US will resume “dropping bombs” on their territory.

Washington and Tehran reached a temporary truce this April through Pakistani mediation before announcing a framework agreement this Monday to end the conflict. The accord is expected to be formally signed in Switzerland on Friday.

Nuclear goals, funding denied

Trump said the core objective of the deal is preventing Tehran from obtaining nuclear weaponry.

“It’s a great deal for a lot of reasons, but number one, by far, 99.9% is they will never have a nuclear weapon,” he said, characterizing the pact as “very strong.”

The US president also firmly rejected reports of a $300 billion development fund accessible to Iran involving American taxpayers, calling it a “false story.”

“We’re not investing. We’re not putting up 10 cents,” Trump said, adding that others may choose to invest. “I would say they won’t be doing it for a while, until they find out (about) the behavior (by Iran),” he added.

Economic relief, maritime security

On the global economic impact of the war, Trump said oil prices have “come tumbling down” as markets react to the de-escalation.

The US president added that the Strait of Hormuz is “already partially opened” and that he expects the vital waterway to be fully operational within the next two days.

He argued that without a deal, the world would have faced a “depression” because the strait would have remained closed due to the risk of rockets and mines.
