‘Protests against genocide are not the problem in our society — it is the government’s complicity with genocide’ that is, campaigners say

UNITED NATIONS experts urged Britain not to misuse terrorism laws to proscribe Palestine Action, branding the plans the “unjustified labelling of a political protest movement as ‘terrorist’” ahead of an emergency protest outside Parliament tonight.

Hours after the non-violent activist group blockaded the entrance to an Israeli defence company’s British headquarters today, the UN-appointed human rights experts said: “According to international standards, acts of protest that damage property, but are not intended to kill or injure people, should not be treated as terrorism.

“These offences would criminalise legitimate activities by innocent members of the group that do not contribute in any way to property damage by other members, let alone ‘terrorism’ which, if properly defined, the group has not committed.”

It comes as pro-Palestine and democracy activists were urged to defend the right to protest outside Parliament at 6pm on Wednesday, as MPs debate the government legislation to ban the campaign group under anti-terror law.

Amnesty UK’s CEO Sacha Deshmukh said that the motion would be a “grave misuse of anti-terrorism powers” in a letter to MPs and peers today.

The laws “have long been criticised by international experts for containing problematic, overly broad and draconian restrictions on free speech in relation to proscribed groups,” which would mean that “simple expressions of personal moral opinions” will potentially become “serious crimes,” he warned.

Dystopia UK: Genocidal RAF Squadron Targeted by Palestine Action is Owned by a Hedge Fund

If you thought RAF jets were owned by the RAF, think again.

The RAF squadron targeted for a repaint by Palestine Action due to its involvement in supplying Israel’s genocide, does not in fact belong to the RAF at all. It belongs ultimately to Polygon Global Partners LLP, a Hedge Fund.

Through a chain of seven cutout companies, which I will take you through, the direct ownership is with Airtanker Ltd, which gives its address as RAF Brize Norton. It owns, maintains and operates the RAF’s Voyager refuelling aircraft, which have been providing mid-air refuelling to the Israeli Defence Forces as well as carrying, in their cargo role, munitions to the IDF.

Airtanker Ltd states that five of the Voyager aircraft while available to the RAF: “can also be made available to other parties. This can include providing military capability to other nations…”.

Whether the aircraft have been operated by the RAF on behalf of the Israelis, or whether they have been “provided to” the IDF direct, is an interesting question. Is this designed to build in plausible deniability for the UK government?

Eight of the Voyager Aircraft though fully painted in RAF livery, actually are the property of Airtanker Ltd.

The RAF’s Voyager aircraft are effectively being provided under the Private Finance Initiative. Exactly how much money the hedge fund managers and this string of companies are taking out of the defence budget is hard to know.

One particularly surprising fact is that it is plain that the private companies are also providing the RAF ground crew. Who employs the flight crews is not entirely clear.

That such an obviously rotten and corrupt arrangement exists in the RAF I had no idea. Some British military personnel are in fact contracted mercenaries. It gives new context to the active RAF involvement in the Genocide in Gaza.

Palestine Action’s excellent act of resistance in vandalising this Hedge Fund Air Force has brought all of this to our attention. Which is yet a further reason to be grateful to Palestine Action.

PALESTINE Action targeted two military planes at an RAF base in Oxfordshire today [yesterday], where daily flights depart for another base in Cyprus used for military operations in Gaza.

Two activists broke into RAF Brize Norton and approached the planes on electric scooters.

They used repurposed fire extinguishers to spray red paint into the turbine engines of two Airbus Voyagers, before causing further damage using crowbars.

Activists then sprayed red paint across the runway, symbolising the bloodshed in Gaza.

They were undetected by security and managed to evade arrest.

Flights depart daily from the base for RAF Akrotiri in Cyprus, used by Britain to support Israel, the group said in a statement.

More than 500 RAF surveillance flights have flown over the Gaza area from Akrotiri in 15 months, according to analysis by Action on Armed Violence.

The base is also used for British and US military cargo transports to the Israeli military, Palestine Action said.

A spokesperson for the group said: “Despite publicly condemning the Israeli government, Britain continues to send military cargo, fly spy planes over Gaza and refuel US/Israeli fighter jets.

“Britain isn’t just complicit, it’s an active participant in the Gaza genocide and war crimes across the Middle East.

“By decommissioning two military planes, Palestine Action has directly intervened in the genocide and prevented crimes against the Palestinian people.”
