THE Scottish Greens used the Armistice Day commemorations today to call on all governments to end their complicity in the Gaza genocide.

The party’s co-leader Patrick Harvie challenged the SNP Scottish government to stop subsidising arms manufacturers, and the Labour government to end all arms sales to Israel as its military continues its bloody assault in Gaza.

Mr Harvie said: “After the horrors of October 7, the last 400 days have seen some of the worst war crimes of this century carried out against the people of Gaza.

“By arming and supporting Israel, the UK has made itself utterly complicit in the destruction.

“How can [Prime Minister Sir] Keir Starmer and his colleagues look at a humanitarian emergency on that scale and decide to continue the arms sales?

SCOTTISH Greens slammed the SNP government today for “shameless” and “two-faced” meetings with Israeli diplomats as the slaughter of Palestinians continues.

SNP Cabinet Secretary for Constitution, External Affairs and Culture Angus Robertson reportedly met deputy Israeli ambassador Daniela Grudsky Ekstein last week to discuss “mutual interests.”

Scottish Green MSP Ross Greer hit out at his party’s erstwhile coalition colleagues.

He said: “The Israeli regime is committing genocide in Gaza.

“They cut off water and electricity, restricted the supply of everything from medicines to period products and have slaughtered tens of thousands of innocent people in a 10-month campaign of relentless bombing.

“This is a shameless two-faced approach from the SNP.

“They publicly condemn Israel’s war crimes whilst holding secret meetings with its representatives to discuss so-called ‘mutual interests.’

STV is hosting a four-way debate on Monday

Leaders’ debates are now a key feature of General Election campaigns in the UK. So far, only one UK-wide debate has been announced. Rishi Sunak and Keir Starmer will go head to head on ITV at 9pm on Tuesday, 4 June.

The day before, there will also be a debate between Scottish Party leaders on STV at 9pm. SNP leader John Swinney, Scottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar, Scottish Conservative leader Douglas Ross and Scottish Liberal Democrat leader Alex Cole-Hamilton will be taking part.

Notable in their absence from the Scottish debate are the Greens. While the Scottish Greens don’t currently have any seats in the House of Commons, they do have 7 MSPs – more than the Liberal Democrats – and they were until recently in government in Scotland.

The decision not to invite the Greens has led to outrage from key party activists and representatives.

THE Scottish Greens called on Westminster today to “wake up to the reality of the climate crisis” and change course on fossil fuels instead of “dragging us towards environmental disaster.”

The challenge followed publication of the Scottish government’s draft Energy Strategy and Just Transition document, which calls for a halt to new oil and gas exploration licences and outlines plans for Scotland to lead a transition to renewables.

The strategy includes ideas to increase the country’s renewable electricity generation capacity by 20 gigawatts (GW) over the next seven years, equivalent to nearly 50 per cent of current demand, the Scottish Greens said.

“Even as the world burns, the UK government has committed to approving 100 new oil and gas exploration licences and is opening the first new coalmine for 30 years.
