Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed Thursday that it targeted Al-Azraq Air Base in Jordan’s eastern desert with ballistic missiles, destroying three F-35 fighter jets and heavily damaging three others, according to Iranian media, Anadolu reports.

In a statement, the IRGC said its aerospace forces struck the deployment ramp and maintenance hangar housing US F-35 fighter jets at Al-Azraq Air Base with several ballistic missiles, describing the attack as a response to a US strike on two residential homes on Iran’s Qeshm Island.

The IRGC claimed that three F-35 aircraft were completely destroyed, while three others sustained heavy damage.

It also claimed that several officers, as well as technical and maintenance personnel, were killed in the attack.

The statement came hours after a missile struck a house on Qeshm Island, injuring two people during a wave of US attacks across southern Iran, according to Mehr News Agency.

Earlier Thursday, the Jordanian army said it intercepted and downed five missiles launched from Iran toward the kingdom, marking the fourth consecutive day of such incidents.

On Wednesday, Jordan said it downed five missiles after intercepting one drone on Tuesday and two drones on Monday.

The developments came as the US Central Command (CENTCOM) said American forces launched strikes against Iran in response to what it described as attempted Iranian attacks on US forces in the Middle East a day earlier.

The United States launched a new wave of strikes against targets in Iran, including military and civilian sites as well as a nuclear facility under construction, according to Iranian authorities, as Iran expanded its missile and drone attacks to include Kuwait, Bahrain, and Jordan.

The escalation has brought hostilities to levels approaching those seen during the peak of the conflict.

The Israeli military said that Israeli and Jordanian forces intercepted an Iranian missile heading toward the southern Jordanian port city of Aqaba, near Israel’s border. According to the military, this was the first time since the latest round of fighting began that Iranian missiles had reached the area.

Meanwhile, US Central Command (CENTCOM) said it conducted strikes early Sunday, marking the eighth consecutive night of US operations against targets in Iran.

According to CENTCOM, the strikes targeted Iranian coastal surveillance and air defense facilities, naval assets, and sites used to store missiles and drones. The command said the operation was intended to reduce Iran’s military capabilities and to respond to attacks by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) against US service members in Jordan on Friday.

On Saturday, the US military announced that two US soldiers had been killed and a third remained missing following Iranian strikes on a US site in Jordan the previous day.

Iranian authorities have reported that the US strikes hit military installations, civilian locations, and a nuclear plant under construction. The extent of the damage and casualty figures have not been independently verified.

US forces continue to enforce a naval blockade against Iran in the Arabian Sea, US Central Command (CENTCOM) said Saturday, Anadolu reports.

“American forces continue to strictly enforce the ongoing naval blockade against Iran,” the command said in a post on the US social media platform X, alongside a photograph it said showed the guided-missile destroyer USS Donald Cook transiting the Arabian Sea while an MH-60S Sea Hawk helicopter operated nearby.

CENTCOM said that, as of Saturday, US forces had redirected five commercial vessels and disabled another.

Shipping traffic through the Strait of Hormuz fell on Sunday to its lowest level in several weeks, according to shipping data, as renewed exchanges of strikes between the United States and Iran and attacks on vessels heightened safety concerns.

Vessel tracking data from Kpler showed that only six ships passed through the strait on Sunday, the lowest daily total in five weeks.

The vessels included the very large crude carrier Humanity, carrying two million barrels of Iranian crude oil, and the tanker Capetan Andreas, transporting about 500,000 barrels of Kuwaiti refined oil products. Three empty tankers also entered the Gulf to load crude oil. Most tankers switched off their transponders while passing through the strait.

The tracking data showed no liquefied natural gas (LNG) tankers entering the strait at the start of the week.

Kpler also reported that only one tanker operated by the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) left the strait between 10 and 12 July, heading for the Indian port of Dahej.

The US Central Command (CENTCOM) said on Sunday that its forces had completed another wave of strikes against Iran, targeting dozens of sites at multiple locations with precision-guided munitions.

US President Donald Trump said on Sunday that the Strait of Hormuz remained open to commercial shipping, despite Iran’s earlier announcement that it had closed the waterway after a vessel travelled on an unauthorised route and came under attack.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said on Monday that its naval forces had stopped two vessels in the Strait of Hormuz overnight by disabling their systems. The IRGC did not identify the two ships.

CENTCOM says it completed another round of strikes on Iran

The US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced late Wednesday that it “completed an additional round of strikes against Iran,” hitting approximately 90 military targets, Anadolu reports.

“US forces struck approximately 90 Iranian military targets including air defense systems, coastal surveillance assets, missile and drone storage sites, naval capabilities, and military logistics infrastructure along Iran’s coastline. The latest strikes follow successful execution of offensive strikes in Iran the night before,” CENTCOM wrote on the US social media platform X.

CENTCOM said the strikes were intended to “further degrade Iran’s ability to attack commercial shipping and innocent civilian mariners in the Strait of Hormuz.”

Earlier Wednesday, CENTCOM said that American forces had begun a new round of strikes against Iran.

“At the direction of the Commander in Chief, U.S. Central Command forces have started conducting additional strikes against Iran to further degrade their ability to threaten freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz,” it said in a statement on X.

“The United States is holding Iran accountable for recent unjustified aggression against commercial shipping and civilian crews freely navigating a vital international waterway,” the statement added.

Meanwhile, the semi-official Mehr news agency reported that an explosion was heard in Iran’s southern city of Bandar Abbas on Wednesday evening.

The strikes came hours after US President Donald Trump said the memorandum of understanding signed with Iran to end the war was “over” and that the US would “probably” hit Iran again Wednesday night.

A US official told CNN that the ceasefire with Iran “has at least temporarily ceased.”
“The US military is in a wait-and-see mode,” CNN reported, citing the official, adding that today’s targets were missiles and drones.

Another US official later told Axios that the current escalation could last a day or two, a week or a month, depending on whether Iran continues its attacks on commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz.

“We’re going to slap them a bit,” the official said, claiming that the current escalation stems from frustration among a part of the Iranian leadership who believe the deal with the US has not delivered real benefits for Tehran.
