Israeli forces and armed Jewish settlers are carrying out increasingly coordinated attacks on Palestinian children across the occupied West Bank, with documented incidents including shootings, stabbings, beatings and the use of pepper spray, the UN’s children’s agency has said.

Speaking to reporters in Geneva on Tuesday, UNICEF spokesperson James Elder said: “We’re seeing attacks become increasingly coordinated. Documented incidents include children shot, stabbed, children beaten and children pepper-sprayed.”

At least 70 Palestinian children have been killed in the occupied West Bank since January 2025 — an average of one a week — and a further 850 have been injured, the vast majority by live Israeli ammunition, according to UNICEF figures.

The agency said March 2026 had recorded the highest number of Palestinians injured by settler attacks in the past 20 years. “All this comes amid historic levels of settler attacks,” Elder said.

Recalling a recent visit to the occupied territory, the UNICEF spokesperson described meeting an eight-year-old Palestinian boy who had been beaten with a piece of wood during a settler attack and hospitalised for head injuries. The boy’s mother, he said, “had both her arms broken when she reached across to protect her four-month-old baby, putting therefore her arms between her baby and the attacker’s club.”

Elder also highlighted a sharp increase in attacks targeting Palestinian education, including the killing, injury and detention of students and the demolition of schools by Israeli forces. “Schools, which should be places of safety and stability, are increasingly becoming places of panic,” he said.

The spokesperson described accompanying Palestinian schoolchildren on their journey to class in an effort to help them avoid being attacked. “It’s interesting to watch them walk… They don’t walk in a straight line because they’re constantly looking over their shoulder,” he said. “This is a walk to school. It’s become a walk through fear.”

UNICEF also reported a “sharp rise” in the arrest and detention of Palestinian children by Israeli occupation forces. Some 347 Palestinian children are currently being held in Israeli military detention “for alleged security-related offences” — the highest figure in eight years, Elder said.

“Alarmingly, more than half of these children, 180, are held under administrative detention and without the procedural safeguards, including detention without regular access to legal counsel and the right to challenge detention,” Elder added.

Administrative detention is a system inherited from the British Mandate era that allows the Israeli military to hold Palestinians indefinitely without charge or trial, on the basis of secret evidence.

Turning to the Gaza Strip, Elder said the UN had documented the killing of at least 229 Palestinian children and the injury of 260 more since the October 2025 ceasefire — agreed after nearly two years of Israel’s genocidal assault on the besieged enclave.

Dr Reinhilde Van de Weerdt, the World Health Organization’s representative in the Occupied Palestinian Territories, told the same briefing that some 10,000 children in Gaza are now living with life-changing injuries.

An estimated 43,000 of the 172,000 Palestinians injured in Gaza since October 2023 have sustained such trauma — including injuries to limbs, the spinal cord or the brain — she said. Almost 2,500 people have been injured since the October 2025 ceasefire alone.

“Of the 2,277 people that have had a limb amputated, less than 25 per cent have been fitted with permanent prosthetics,” Van de Weerdt said, blaming a severe shortage of prosthetics inside the Strip.

Israel’s ongoing attacks in Lebanon cripple health services in Lebanon, the World Health Organization (WHO)’s Lebanon Emergency Situation Report said, Anadolu reports.

Since Israeli attacks on the country expanded since March 2, access to healthcare worsened, the report stated earlier this week.

64 attacks on the healthcare were identified, killing at least 53 healthcare workers and injuring 91 others, it said.

Nine hospitals were damaged, 50 primary healthcare centers were closed, and four primary healthcare centers were damaged.

Five hospitals, including Bahman Hospital, Al-Sahel Hospital, Bint Jbeil Public Hospital, Mays al-Jabal Public Hospital, and Al-Burj Hospital, were closed, the report added.

On Friday evening, the Lebanese Health Ministry announced that the death toll from the Israeli attacks rose to 1,142, with 3,315 others wounded.

The Israeli army has pounded Lebanon with airstrikes and launched a ground offensive in southern Lebanon since a cross-border attack by Hezbollah on March 2.

The ongoing Israeli offensive on Lebanon comes amid a heightened regional tensions since the US and Israel launched a joint offensive on Iran on Feb. 28, killing more than 1,340 people, including then-Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.

Tehran has retaliated with waves of drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf countries hosting US military assets, inflicting casualties and infrastructure damage while disrupting global markets and aviation.

The UN agencies, including UNICEF, UNRWA, World Health Organization (WHO), and partners, in collaboration with the Palestinian Health Ministry, are launching an integrated catch-up campaign for routine immunization, nutrition, and growth monitoring in Gaza to reach 44,000 children cut off from essential life-saving services by two years of conflict, Anadolu reports.

According to a joint statement released on Wednesday, the campaign will be implemented in three rounds to reach children with three doses of pentavalent, polio, rotavirus, and pneumococcal conjugate vaccines and two doses of measles, mumps, and rubella vaccine.

The first round of the campaign will take place from Nov. 9 to Nov. 18.

An estimated “1 in 5 children under three years of age are either zero-dose or have missed vaccinations because of the conflict,” increasing the risk of disease outbreaks. The catch-up campaign aims, the statement said, to provide these children with routine childhood vaccines that protect against measles, mumps, rubella, diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, hepatitis B, tuberculosis, polio, rotavirus, and pneumonia.

“To help address the devastating impacts of the conflict on children’s health and nutrition, UNICEF and partners will also screen these children for malnutrition and ensure those identified with malnutrition receive treatment and ongoing follow-up. Children with complications due to moderate and severe acute malnutrition will be treated at WHO-supported inpatient stabilization centers,” it said.

“After two years of relentless violence that claimed the lives of more than 20,000 children in the Gaza Strip, we finally have an opportunity to protect those who survived,” Jonathan Veitch, UNICEF special representative in Palestine, said. “Vaccinating every child, and supporting their health and nutrition, is not just a humanitarian intervention; it is a moral imperative.”

UNICEF has delivered all vaccines, syringes, cold chain equipment and nutrition supplies to Gaza, with vaccinations set to take place at 149 health facilities and 10 mobile vehicles, according to the statement. More than 450 health workers and support staff have been trained.

“This immunization campaign is a lifeline, protecting children’s health and restoring hope for the future,” Richard Peeperkorn, WHO representative in the occupied Palestinian territory, said for his part.

The agencies stressed that the campaign’s success depends on the full respect of the ceasefire to allow safe access to vaccination and nutrition services. The onset of harsh winter conditions makes this campaign even more urgent, as deadly but preventable childhood diseases spread across the Gaza Strip, they warned.

Phases two and three of the campaign, which aim to provide the children with second and third doses of the vaccines, are planned for December 2025 and January 2026, respectively.

Before the conflict, Gaza maintained 54 immunization facilities and ranked “among the top” globally with an overall 98% vaccination coverage rate for children. Today, the statement said, 31 facilities are no longer operational after being damaged or destroyed in indiscriminate attacks, while the routine vaccination coverage rate has dropped below 70%.

WHO: Rebuilding Gaza’s health system likely to cost 7$ billion

The World Health Organization (WHO) said on Thursday that Gaza’s health system has been devastated by Israel’s war on the Palestinian territory, which began on 7 October 2023.

“There are no fully functioning hospitals in Gaza,” said WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, warning that “the total cost of rebuilding the Gaza health system will be at least $7 billion.”

The organisation’s chief added that no significant progress has been recorded in the quantities of food allowed to enter since the ceasefire, nor any improvement in reducing hunger among the population.

“The situation still remains catastrophic because what’s entering is not enough,” Ghebreyesus told reporters, adding that, “there is no dent in hunger because there is not enough food.”

He further clarified that hunger has not declined despite the ceasefire agreement that came into effect on 10 October, brokered by the United States between Israel and Hamas.

The WHO’s chief warned that “The crisis is far from over, and the needs are immense,”confirming that “Although the flow of aid has increased, it is still only a fraction of what’s needed.”

No dent in hunger since Gaza ceasefire: WHO chief

The World Health Organization (WHO) warned Thursday that hunger and suffering in Gaza remain severe despite a fragile ceasefire, saying that aid levels have barely improved and medical evacuations are far too limited to meet needs, Anadolu reports.

“The ceasefire announced two weeks ago is fragile and has been violated, but continues to hold, which is great news for everyone,” WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus told a press briefing in Geneva. “However, the crisis is far from over, and the needs are immense.”

Stressing that “there is no shift in amount of aid since ceasefire,” Tedros said the aid has increased since the ceasefire but is still “only a fraction” of the actual needs.

“There is no dent in hunger because there is not enough food,” he said, noting hunger takes longer to reverse. He added that many of the trucks entering Gaza now are commercial, which does not help the case, as people cannot afford to buy.

Regarding the medical evacuations, the WHO chief warned that “once-a-week medical evacuations are not enough,” as well as the one or two routes made available for such operations. He urged Israel to allow patients to travel to the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, to receive treatment immediately. “For some, delays mean death,” he said, as 700 have died while waiting.

Still, he stressed that 15,000 patients, including 4,000 children, require treatment outside Gaza, urging countries to accept more patients.

He urged the opening of all crossings, including Rafah, which was supposed to be opened last week, and added that “a significant amount of aid has built up at Al-Arish in Egypt that is ready to enter Gaza as soon as the crossing is opened.”

According to Tedros, WHO’s 60-day cease-fire plan requires $45 million to maintain life-saving services, strengthen disease surveillance, and coordinate partners. But he warned that rebuilding Gaza’s health system “will cost at least $7 billion.”

More than 170,000 people are injured, including 5,000 amputees and 3,600 with severe burns, while about one million need mental health care, he said.
