PALESTINE activists painted “Gaza is not for sale” on the lawn at Donald Trump’s Scottish golf course at the weekend in response to the US president’s dismissive comments about the war-torn strip.

Palestine Action members dug up greens and spray-painted the lawn and clubhouse at the 800-acre south Ayrshire resort early on Saturday.

The activist group said that it was responding to the US administration’s plans and threats to ethnically cleanse and take over the Gaza Strip, where more than 48,000 Palestinians, 80 per cent of them civilians, have been killed by Israeli forces during the war.

A spokesperson said: “Palestine Action rejects Donald Trump’s treatment of Gaza as though it were his property to dispose of as he likes.

“To make that clear, we have shown him that his own property is not safe from acts of resistance. We will continue to take action against US-Israeli colonialism in the Palestinian homeland.”

Women chant slogans during a protest marking International Women’s Day in Istanbul, Turkey, March 8, 2025

WOMEN took to the streets of cities across Europe, Africa, South America and elsewhere to mark International Women’s Day with demands for ending inequality and gender-based violence.

On the Asian side of Istanbul, Turkey’s biggest city, a rally in Kadikoy saw members of dozens of women’s groups listen to speeches, dance and sing in the spring sunshine.

The colourful protest was overseen by a large police presence, including officers in riot gear and a water cannon truck.

Protesters pushed back against the idea of women’s role being confined to marriage and motherhood, carrying banners reading “Family will not bind us to life” and “We will not be sacrificed to the family.”

From Athens to Madrid, Paris, Munich, Zurich and Belgrade and in many more cities across the continent, women marched to demand an end to treatment as second-class citizens in society, politics, family and at work.

A man holds a Palestinian flag after he climbed up Elizabeth Tower, which houses Big Ben at the Palace of Westminster in London, March 8, 2025

A PALESTINE protester scaled the tower containing Big Ben and remained atop the historic landmark for 16 hours at the weekend before he was brought down by authorities.

The solo demonstrator climbed Parliament’s Elizabeth Tower barefoot on Saturday morning and then unfurled a Palestine flag.

He was eventually brought to the ground in a cherry-picker at around 1am yesterday.

In videos shared on social media the day before, the man was seen climbing over a fence surrounding the Houses of Parliament without any security guards intervening.

Crowds of supporters gathered nearby behind police cordons, giving shouts of “free Palestine.”

The protester shared clips from the action on social media, stating in one video: “While they’ve got our political prisoners locked up, I’m staying up here,” as he spoke to negotiators who had ascended on an aerial platform.

“I will come down on my own terms.”

He chanted in another: “Stop the weaponisation of terrorism legislation against Palestine Action activists. Free the Filton 18.”

The 18 activists were arrested after protesting against Israeli weapons manufacturer Elbit Systems.

They are accused of having a “terrorism connection” and are currently jailed on remand.
