Swiss Defense Minister Martin Pfister criticized the United States and Israel for airstrikes against Iran, saying their actions, along with those of Tehran, violated international law, Sonntags Zeitung newspaper reported on Sunday, Anadolu reports.

“The Americans and Israel have attacked Iran from the air. In doing so, they, like Iran, have violated international law,” Pfister said, calling on the warring parties to cease violence and protect the civilian population.

He also warned that Europe could be drawn into the conflict, not only through conventional military engagement but through asymmetric warfare such as terrorist attacks.

“There is a risk of terrorist attacks in Switzerland. In addition, the war could trigger a wave of refugees that will also reach us,” Pfister said.

While he does not believe Switzerland is directly threatened by Iranian long‑range missiles, Pfister said the possibility of collateral damage cannot be ruled out.

“We currently have nothing to defend against long-range attacks,” he said.

He stressed the need for a comprehensive approach to security that goes beyond purely military preparedness, citing the importance of police and intelligence services.

The minister said that threat assessments had been underestimated in recent decades, adding: “Our perfected society with its prosperity is still a long way from the current conflicts… This war, as bad as it is, could also trigger a rethink in this country, which is urgently needed.”

Tensions in the Middle East have soared since the US and Israel launched a large-scale attack on Iran on Feb. 28, killing more than 1,200 people to date, including Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, over 150 schoolgirls, and senior military officials.

Iran has retaliated with sweeping strikes targeting US bases, diplomatic facilities, and military personnel across the region, as well as multiple Israeli cities.

A US service member has succumbed to injuries sustained during an Iranian attack on US troops in Saudi Arabia on March 1, bringing the death toll of US service members to seven, US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced Sunday, Anadolu reports.

“The service member was seriously wounded at the scene of an attack on US troops in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia,” CENTCOM said on the US social media company X, adding that the person died last night.

The identity of the fallen member will be withheld until next of kin are notified, it said.

All of the previously reported deaths were from an attack in Kuwait; this is the first death reported outside that country.

US President Donald Trump has repeatedly warned that more casualties are likely as the campaign continues. “Sadly, there will likely be more before it ends,” he said earlier this month, noting “we’ll do everything possible where that won’t be the case.”

The announcement came as the US-Israeli joint attacks on Iran entered their ninth day.

The campaign, launched last Saturday, has reportedly killed more than 1,200 people in Iran, including Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. Tehran has retaliated with drone and missile strikes targeting US military assets and Gulf countries across the region.

‘Stop appeasing Trump all the way to World War III,’ Starmer told

Starmer attempts to make up with the warmongering US president as tens of thousands protest against the bombing of Iran over the weekend

SIR KEIR STARMER attempted to make friends with Donald Trump today after the warmongering US president criticised Britain’s slowness in joining the US-Israeli attack on Iran.

The Prime Minister spoke to Mr Trump about the countries’ military co-operation, Downing Street said, after the decision not to grant permission for use of British bases in the first wave of military action prompted a raft of criticism from the Republican leader.

Sir Keir has now granted permission for “defensive” US action against Iranian missile sites from British bases, despite opposition to war from the British public.

Over the weekend, four US bombers landed in RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire, and the US started using British bases for “specific defensive operations.”

It came as tens of thousands gathered in protest against the bombing of Iran over the weekend.

Protesters carried signs reading “Stop Trump’s Wars” and “Stop Arming Israel,” as they marched to the US embassy in central London from Millbank.

Addressing the crowd outside the embassy, Your Party MP Zarah Sultana recalled the 2003 US-led invasion of Iraq, telling the crowd: “Back then, we were told that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction.

“We were told that war would bring peace and democracy.

“We were told that the war would protect Iraqis and protect the world, but the truth was very different.”

But “23 years ago, when we marched against the Iraq war, we were ignored,” she said.

“We will not be ignored again, because history proved them right.

“And today, we raise our voices for peace, for justice and for a world where governments learn the lessons of the past.”

A statement from former Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn, who could not attend the protest, was read to the crowd outside the embassy.

In the statement, Mr Corbyn, now also a Your Party MP, said: “For too long, the UK has blindly followed the US as it indulges in catastrophic interventions around the world.

“We are here to defend something different, a foreign policy based on co-operation, equality and sovereignty.

“Forever war is not a game. It has real-life human consequences, and US and Israel must be held accountable.”

Stop the War Coalition convener Lindsey German said every war “they have engaged in in the last 25 years, they’ve claimed they’ve done it to liberate women.”

“That’s what they’re saying about the war on Iran as well,” she said. “But the first thing that they did was to kill 165 young girls in a school.

“We should never, ever believe their lies.”

She told Sir Keir: “Stop appeasing Donald Trump all the way to world war three.

“We’re absolutely fed up with this gangster imperialism.”

PM justifies position on US-Israel war on Iran in social media post using the Dire Straits song Money for Nothing

Keir Starmer has been accused of trying to mimic Donald Trump’s social media output after posting a TikTok video about the crisis in the Middle East overlaid with the prime minister’s voice and the Dire Straits song Money for Nothing.

The video opens with footage showing Royal Navy Wildcat helicopters flying over his head before cutting to British military jets in action and a drone being destroyed, as Starmer’s voice states the position he has taken on the conflict.

“Our number one priority is protecting our people,” says Starmer, overlaid with the sound of electric guitars played by Dire Straits.

Starmer refused to join the US and Israeli strikes on Iran but has since authorised “defensive” action.

Senior Labour figures warn government amid fears of ‘political earthquake’ in London

[Guardian] Exclusive: Senior party figures share data suggesting Green surge could put Labour in fourth place in capital in May

Senior Labour politicians across London have warned the government not to take progressive voters for granted, with concerns the party faces a “political earthquake” in the capital in May after a surge in support for the Greens.

They have been privately circulating new data that suggests Labour could drop from first to fourth place in London in the May elections – losing control of all but two of their councils – with the Greens soaring into first place to take nine.

“The government needs to demonstrate that they’re not taking liberal, progressive voters in the capital for granted,” a senior London Labour figure warned.

Another added: “It’s going to be a total catastrophe for us in London. If we lose swathes of voters on our progressive flank then we’re doomed. We need to start listening to them.”

A new technique, which builds on MRP modelling and correctly predicted the Gorton and Denton byelection result, forecasts that Labour, which holds 21 boroughs in London, could lose flagship authorities such as Hackney and Lambeth to the Greens.

The modelling, from the data firm Bombe, will spook Labour MPs, who hold 59 of London’s 75 parliamentary seats, and include Keir Starmer, David Lammy, Steve Reed and Wes Streeting.

According to the forecast, the party would lose more than half its council seats – many to the Greens – in the prime minister’s own back yard, Camden, which would fall to no overall control.

Mike Joslin, the chief executive of Bombe, which is non-political, said: “Labour is facing wipeout in London in the face of a Green tidal wave. The data shows that Labour’s core voters think Keir Starmer disagrees with them on Gaza, social equality issues and Brexit. They want someone that shares their values.
