The UN said Friday that Israel has rejected 23 humanitarian aid requests since the Gaza ceasefire began on Oct. 10, leaving critical relief supplies blocked from entering the enclave, Anadolu reports.
“Millions of urgently needed shelter items remain stuck in Jordan and in Egypt and Israel as well, awaiting approval to enter Gaza,” UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric said at a news conference.
He said that “since the ceasefire began on October 10, Israeli authorities have rejected 23 requests from nine of our partners to bring in nearly 4,000 pallets of critical supplies, including tents, sealing and framing kits, bedding, kitchen sets, and blankets.”
Dujarric warned that the worsening conditions are putting civilians at further risk, noting that “the dire living conditions are also increasing people’s exposure to explosive ordnance, with children among those most at risk.”
“Since the ceasefire, our colleagues working on mine action have recorded more than 10 injuries from explosive hazards,” he said, adding that the risk is “further compounded by Gaza’s extremely limited geographical size, which leaves little room to avoid areas where there may be unexploded ordnance.”
Highlighting the severity of potential hazard zones, Dujarric reported that “even minimal contamination can have widespread and devastating consequences.”
“Since the ceasefire, our partners have responded to more than 70 requests for explosive-hazard assessments, supported 32 inter-agency missions, and delivered risk education sessions to over 49,000 people across Gaza,” he said, stressing that much more could be done if the UN Mine Action Service was allowed to “get access to detectors, spare parts, and equipment needed to safely dispose of explosive hazards.”
He further emphasized the need “for the full and sustained opening of existing and additional crossings, clearance of further critical items and equipment for entry, and comprehensive facilitation of our work and the work of our NGO partners.”

“After over two years of slaughter, forced starvation, and mass atrocities in Gaza, the global consensus is clear: The Israeli government has committed genocide against the Palestinian people in Gaza.”
Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib and 20 Democratic colleagues on Friday introduced legislation that would officially recognize Israel’s 25-month war on Gaza as a genocide, a move that came as Israeli forces continued killing Palestinians in the coastal strip and violating a tenuous ceasefire with Hamas.
Tlaib (D-Mich.)—the only Palestinian American in Congress—introduced H.Res. 876, which, if passed, would “officially recognize that the state of Israel has committed the crime of genocide against the Palestinian people in Gaza” and affirm that it is official US policy to “prevent and punish the crime of genocide, wherever it occurs.”
“The Israeli government’s genocide in Gaza has not ended, and it will not end until we act,” Tlaib said in a statement Friday. “Since the so-called ‘ceasefire’ was announced, Israeli forces haven’t stopped killing Palestinians.”
According to Gaza’s Government Media Office (GMO), Israel has violated the ceasefire agreement 282 times as of November 10, 2025—exactly one month after the US-brokered truce took effect. Alleged violations include airstrikes resulting in massacres, shootings of civilians, property demolitions, and raids beyond the ceasefire’s “yellow line” buffer zones.
GMO says Israeli forces have killed least 242 Palestinians and injured more than 620 others during the truce.
This, in addition to the at least 249,000 Palestinians who have been killed or wounded by Israeli forces since October 2023, including upward of 10,000 people who are missing and presumed dead and buried beneath the ruins of Gaza, which could take decades to clear. Around 2 million Palestinians have been starved, sickened, and forcibly displaced. Many others have been arbitrarily imprisoned, tortured, and allegedly subjected to rape and other sexual abuse.
“After over two years of slaughter, forced starvation, and mass atrocities in Gaza, the global consensus is clear: The Israeli government has committed genocide against the Palestinian people in Gaza,” Tlaib noted.
The resolution calls for the United States to “respect its obligations under the Genocide Convention by employing all means reasonably available to it to prevent and punish the crime of genocide.”
These include:
cessation of relevant arms and equipment transfers;
investigation and prosecution of individuals and corporations in the United States implicated in the crime of genocide;
targeted, lawful sanctions with respect to the state of Israel and individuals or corporations involved in or facilitating the commission of genocide.
“Impunity only enables more atrocity,” Tlaib warned. “As our government continues to send a blank check for war crimes and ethnic cleansing, Palestinian children’s smiles are extinguished by bombs and bullets that say made in the USA.”
“To end this horror, we must reject genocide denial and follow our binding legal obligations under the Genocide Convention to take immediate action to pursue justice and accountability to prevent and punish the crime of genocide,” she added. “We must hold individual perpetrators and complicit corporations to account. We must stop sending weapons to a genocidal military. We must follow international law and use all means available to us, including sanctions, to bring this genocide to an end.”
Despite existing laws prohibiting US assistance to foreign security forces that commit gross human rights violations, the United States—which grew into a world power in part via genocide of Indigenous Americans—has provided arms and diplomatic cover to the perpetrators of genocides in Paraguay, Guatemala, Bangladesh, East Timor, Kurdistan, and Gaza over the past half-century, while turning a blind eye to other genocides.
Under the Biden and Trump administrations, the US has provided Israel with more than $20 billion in armed aid while thwarting efforts to end the genocide by vetoing numerous United Nations Security Council ceasefire resolutions.
Trump has also targeted individuals and nations who seek justice for Palestinians, acknowledge the Gaza genocide, or recognize Palestinian statehood.
Tlaib’s resolution is co-sponsored by Democratic Reps. Becca Balint (Vt.), André Carson (Ind.), Greg Casar (Texas), Maxine Dexter (Ore.), Maxwell Alejandro Frost (Fla.), Jesús “Chuy” García (Ill.), Al Green (Texas), Pramila Jayapal (Wash.), “Hank” Johnson Jr. (Ga.), Ro Khanna (Calif.), Summer Lee (Pa.), Jim McGovern (Mass.), Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (NY), Ilhan Omar (Minn.), Mark Pocan (Wis.), Ayanna Pressley (Mass.), Delia Ramirez (Ill.), Lateefah Simon (Calif.), Nydia Velázquez (NY), and Bonnie Watson Coleman (NJ).
The resolution—which is unlikely to get through the Republican-controlled Congress—is also endorsed by more than 100 organizations.
“This resolution is an important step towards recognizing Israel’s actions against Palestinians in the occupied Gaza Strip for what they are—genocide,” Amnesty International Middle East and North Africa advocacy director Elizabeth Rghebi said in support of the measure.
“The US ratified the Genocide Convention which imposes a duty on states to prevent and punish the crime,” Rghebi added. “Amnesty International calls on all members of Congress to urgently support this resolution and ensure the US begins taking the actions necessary to prevent and punish Israel’s genocide in Gaza.”
Beth Miller, political director at Jewish Voice for Peace Action, said that “for over two years, the US has been a full partner in the Israeli government’s genocide against Palestinians. Presidents and members of Congress have denied and erased Israel’s ongoing atrocities in Gaza, shielded Israel from accountability in the international arena, and attempted to dehumanize Palestinians.”
“Congresswoman Tlaib and the original co-sponsors joining her on this historic resolution are making clear that this complicity must come to an end,” Miller added. “These representatives are heeding the call of the overwhelming majority of Americans who want to see an end to his genocide and a halt to US support for war crimes.”

Leader of the Greek dockworkers’ union ENEDEP, Markos Bekris, is facing prosecution for a solidarity action that blocked ammunition bound for Israel.
One year after dockworkers at the port of Piraeus blocked an ammunition shipment bound for Israel, their union leader, Markos Bekris, is being targeted by Greek authorities for this show of solidarity. News of Bekris facing legal prosecution came shortly after his return from the West Bank, where a delegation from the All-Workers’ Militant Front (PAME) traveled to express support for Palestinian workers and trade unions.
“It is evident that this genuine act of internationalist solidarity [the cargo blockade] has provoked the reflexes of the state and the government, which – within the framework of their strategic alliance with the murderous state of Israel – are resorting to baseless accusations to justify his prosecution,” stated the Communist Party of Greece (KKE).
In the days that followed the news, expressions of support poured from dozens of trade unions. “The wave of solidarity that has appeared in the face of the prosecution is very strong,” journalist Vangelis Ilias told Peoples Dispatch. “Every day since the announcement, there have been reactions,” he says, linking this to the widespread support for Palestine among the population.
When members of the dockworkers’ union ENEDEP blocked the military cargo in October 2024, Ilias explains, they acted in line with this popular sentiment. “There were a lot of people and a lot of energy during the port action,” he says, noting that students and community groups joined dockworkers on the picket line. “It was truly a working-class-led moment.”
The government’s response: from silence to aggression
The authorities’ recent response to the action again exposed the divide between public opinion and Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis’s administration. Throughout Israel’s genocide in Gaza, the government has maintained close ties with Israeli authorities despite ongoing demands to sever these links. As solidarity actions grew stronger, authorities shifted from silence to aggression. “One of the latest examples of this escalation happened during the Palestine solidarity mobilization in October,” Ilias says. “It was like they were sending a message that they would allow things to go up to a certain point, but not cross it. Attacks on ENEDEP’s leadership can be seen as part of the same message and crackdown.”
Legal action against Bekris has been widely understood as an attempt to suppress solidarity actions which have very concrete outcomes. Additionally, PAME argued in its reaction that the government’s declared commitment to “justice” should also be interpreted as part of the militarization trends shaping both Greece and the region. “If the Greek government and its so-called ‘justice’ are so eager to drag people into court, they should start with their friend Netanyahu, who is internationally wanted for war crimes,” the organization wrote. “They should leave alone the workers and trade unionists who stand by the peoples, on the right side of history, who stop the bullets bound for the murder of children.”
Trade unions from other countries also condemned the intimidation attempts against ENEDEP. “While workers are crushed under poverty, those in power criminalize trade union action and solidarity in order to serve the dirty interests of imperialism,” the Turkish trade union Nakliyat-İş wrote. Italy’s Unione Sindacale di Base (USB), which led two general strikes for Palestine, offered equally strong support. USB noted that for governments, “blocking weapons clearly intended to fuel the genocide of a people is not an act of peace, but a crime,” as it jeopardizes existing international alliances.
Palestinian labor organizations added their support for ENEDEP, saying that the Piraeus blockade embodied true values of international solidarity. “Anyone who refuses to load bullets for murderers defends life,” they stated. “Anyone who is on trial for saying no to war is on trial in the name of false justice.”
For Ilias, the support Bekris and ENEDEP gathered since the beginning of November remains the best tool for opposing the ongoing repression. “And this solidarity should go beyond statements – which are undoubtedly important – by also building physical support, including by showing up in large numbers in front of the courts,” he says.

The Union of Gaza Strip Municipalities warned Friday of the consequences of 700,000 tons of accumulated waste in random dumping sites, as municipalities are unable to provide even the minimum level of essential services due to severe shortages of fuel and equipment, Anadolu reports.
Alaa Al-Batta, the union’s deputy head, told Anadolu that municipalities are facing an “impossible equation” due to the massive destruction of infrastructure, fuel shortages, and the destruction of machinery and equipment during Israel’s genocide against Palestinians.
He said these combined factors have left municipalities unable to provide even basic services to residents and displaced people, despite a month having passed since the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas, with no tangible improvement.
Waste accumulation
The Palestinian official warned of a looming health and environmental disaster amid massive waste buildup across Gaza.
He said around 700,000 tons of waste are piling up in northern and southern areas of the strip, as Israel prevents access to central dumping sites located in border zones it controls under the ceasefire east of the so-called “yellow line.”
He noted that the waste accumulation has also led to the spread of mosquitoes and rodents and contamination of groundwater.
Al-Batta described Gaza’s fuel shortage, particularly for municipalities, as “the most dangerous and urgent crisis” at the moment.
He said municipalities are resorting to borrowing fuel, and when they cannot, they must reduce daily operations because they cannot run service vehicles and facilities.
He called for urgent Arab and international action to supply municipalities with the fuel required to maintain essential services.
Water crisis
Regarding the water crisis, Al-Batta said it has reached unprecedented levels as Israel has destroyed more than 700 wells across Gaza during two years of genocide, representing 80–85% of all municipal wells.
He said the daily per capita water share had dropped from 90 liters before the genocide to just 10–15 liters today.
He added that groundwater and the environment are contaminated because sewage has leaked into the soil after the Israeli military deliberately targeted sewage networks during the two years of war.
“We are talking about near-total destruction of about 2 million linear meters of sewage networks, and municipalities do not have the equipment necessary to repair or maintain them,” he said.
Al-Batta said municipal employees faced severe conditions during the genocide, leading to the killing of many of them, while others continued working without pay.
He said that over 200 municipality workers were killed while performing their professional and humanitarian duties.
He noted that about 5,000 municipal employees in Gaza have been working for 735 days without salaries, despite the war and constant targeting.
Regarding attacks on municipal buildings, Al-Batta said they were directly targeted during the two-year war. Israeli strikes also hit municipal equipment in Gaza City, Khan Younis, and Jabalia, destroying dozens of essential machines.
He said Israel destroyed 15 bulldozers previously donated by Arab states and Egypt during the previous ceasefire period that began in January 2025 and ended in March.
According to the latest data from Gaza’s Government Media Office, losses in the municipal and services sector over two years of genocide amount to about $6 billion.
Al-Batta stressed that Israel is not allowing the entry of new machinery, severely limiting municipalities’ ability to clear rubble, remove waste, reopen streets, and manage the mounting crises.
The Gaza Media Office estimates that the genocide has left around 70 million tons of rubble, beneath which lie thousands of bodies of Palestinians killed during the war.
The estimates indicate 9,500 Palestinians are missing, either buried under the rubble of destroyed homes or their fate remains unknown.
Israel has killed more than 69,000 people, mostly women and children, and injured over 170,700 others in attacks in Gaza since October 2023.
