    Scottish National Party MP Chris Law accuses David Lammy of exposing UK to ‘significant risk’

    British Foreign Secretary David Lammy has been warned that the UK as a state, “alongside individual ministers and government officials as individuals”, is at “significant risk of future legal action for complicity in acts of genocide”.

    In a letter to Lammy on Monday, seen by Middle East Eye, Scottish National Party MP Chris Law accused the foreign secretary of failing to “demonstrate any responsibility of the UK government to prevent genocide”. 

    “Do you accept that the UK’s obligations [under the Genocide Convention] should have been triggered from the moment the government became aware of a serious and imminent risk that genocide could be perpetrated,” Law asks in the letter.

    The Scottish politician goes on to accuse the foreign secretary of appearing to “diminish the very definition of genocide”, after Lammy suggested last month in parliament that Israel’s actions in Gaza do not constitute genocide because fewer than millions of people have been killed.

    Lammy said that terms like genocide “were largely used when millions of people lost their lives in crises like Rwanda, the Second World War, the Holocaust, and the way that they are used now undermines the seriousness of that term.”

    Journalists around the world condemn the British foreign secretary for erasing the work and suffering of Palestinian journalists

    British Foreign Secretary David Lammy has been blasted for saying “there are no journalists in Gaza” at a meeting in parliament on Wednesday. 

    Lammy was asked by fellow Labour MP Matthew Patrick at a House of Commons foreign affairs committee meeting about his assessment “of the nature of the conflict” in Gaza and “how that impinges on getting aid in”.

    “As I said, there is now widespread looting,” Lammy said in his reply.

    “There are no journalists in Gaza and there are no politicians such as me who are able to go to Gaza, so I am unable to verify who is behind the looting,” he added.

    Journalists from around the world condemned the British foreign secretary for appearing to erase the work and suffering of Palestinian journalists – at least 127 of whom have been killed during the course of Israel’s war on Gaza, according to the Committee to Protect Journalists.

    Despite Lammy’s suggestion that the British government does not know who is looting aid because “there are no journalists” in Gaza, both reporters and the United Nations have established that gangs are looting aid with “protection” from Israel’s military.

    There have even been numerous reports that Israel has actively armed gangs in Gaza. Israel has also blocked aid from reaching the besieged enclave throughout much of the war.

    Keir Starmer was having trouble defining genocide at Prime Minister’s Questions yesterday but insisted that Israel was not committing genocide. He should have very little difficulty since he is often described as a human rights lawyer. The rest of us know that Israel is committing genocide. While not a definition, we can see that they are from indiscriminate mass-murder, targeting hospitals, healthcare workers, journalists, aid workers, using starvation and disease as weapons of war, forcible displacements and the statements made by Israeli ministers e.g. Smotrich and Ben-Gvir.

    It should be recognised that the UK and US are active participants in Israel’s genocides and that Keir Starmer, David Lammy and others in the UK Labour Party are therefore genocidal war criminals. UK’s military forces are participating in genocide and the cabinet are supposedly held jointly responsible under UK law.     Britain’s Labour government has ordered 100 spy flights over Gaza to aid Israeli intelligence, it can be revealed. 

    This amounts to an average of more than one a day since Keir Starmer became prime minister on July 5.

    Starmer’s administration suspended 30 arms export licences for Israel last month, citing “a clear risk” the weapons might be used in a “serious violation” of international law. 

    But the spy flights, which began in December under the previous Conservative government, have continued apace. 

    Although the Ministry of Defence (MoD) refused to give details, Declassified independently found the flights departing from Akrotiri – Britain’s sprawling air base on Cyprus – to fly over Gaza on Starmer’s watch. 

    During Labour’s first full month in office, in August, the Royal Air Force (RAF) flew 42 flights over the devastated Palestinian territory.
