The United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) warned on Wednesday that 90 percent of Gaza’s population is suffering from varying degrees of malnutrition, as Israeli restrictions continue to block essential humanitarian aid from entering the territory.
UNRWA spokesperson Adnan Abu Hasna said in a press briefing that Israeli authorities are preventing “hundreds of types of aid” from reaching the enclave, adding that no assistance has entered through the Zikim crossing in northern Gaza.
Abu Hasna cautioned that Gaza is on the verge of a major humanitarian catastrophe, particularly with the onset of winter and the widespread deterioration of makeshift tents sheltering displaced families after months of intense conflict.
His comments echo earlier warnings by Doctors Without Borders (MSF), which said that despite a ceasefire, the humanitarian situation in Gaza remains critically dire.
MSF emergency coordinator Caroline Seguin accused Israeli authorities of obstructing the entry of medical supplies, hygiene kits, shelter materials, and other essential items, describing the scale of suffering as “entirely preventable.”
Seguin said thousands of displaced people are living in overcrowded, deteriorating tents lacking water and electricity, with growing piles of waste and rising cases of skin, respiratory, and gastrointestinal diseases as temperatures drop.

“We have been left with no choice but to stop our activities,” said the humanitarian group’s Gaza coordinator. “This is the last thing we wanted.”
The humanitarian organization Doctors Without Borders has been forced to suspend all its medical operations in Gaza City as its clinics have come under “escalating attacks from Israeli forces.”
In a statement published Friday, the group—officially known as Médecins Sans Frontières—said “the relentless Israeli offensive in Gaza City, Palestine, has forced [MSF] to suspend vital medical activities in the area due to the rapidly deteriorating security situation.
“The situation includes continued airstrikes and advancing tanks less than one kilometer from our healthcare facilities,” the group continued. “The escalating attacks from Israeli forces have created an unacceptable level of risk for our staff, forcing us to suspend lifesaving medical activities.”
As the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have pushed further into Gaza’s largest city in recent days, hundreds of thousands of people have been forcibly displaced, and hundreds of thousands more have been trapped in the besieged city.
These rooms should be filled with newborn cries, the beeping of monitors, pregnant women being cared for, patients finding relief amid a genocide.

Israel’s genocidal assault on Gaza has destroyed much of the strip’s healthcare infrastructure and inflicted widespread disease and starvation.
Since it began in October 2023, MSF has provided over 1.1 million medical consultations, including in over 347,000 emergency cases, according to its website.
Just this week, even as Gaza City was pounded with airstrikes, the group says it carried out over 3,640 consultations and treated 1,655 people with malnutrition. They have also treated patients with severe trauma injuries and burns, as well as pregnant women and others who are unable to leave the city.
Earlier this month, Israel ordered everyone in Gaza City, over 1 million people, to evacuate or face the threat of military force. Hundreds of thousands have fled south. When the order was issued, MSF warned that it would be a “death sentence” for the many critically ill patients and newborn babies who’d be forced to abandon medical treatment.
“While large numbers of people have fled south due to evacuation orders, there are still hundreds of thousands in Gaza City, who are unable to leave and have no other option but to stay,” MSF said. “Those who are able to leave face an impossible choice: either remain in Gaza City under intense military operations and the deterioration of law and order, or abandon what’s left of their houses, their belongings, and their memories, to move to areas where humanitarian conditions are rapidly collapsing.”
The Gaza Health Ministry reported that 60 Palestinians have been killed and dozens more injured since dawn on Friday, bringing the official death toll since October 2023 to 65,549 people and the number of wounded to 167,518.
Meanwhile, at least seven hospitals have been forced to close due to heavy bombardment. Munir al-Bursh, the director general of Gaza’s Health Ministry, told Al Jazeera on Tuesday that Israeli attacks have killed at least 1,723 healthcare workers and damaged 38 hospitals since the war began in October 2023.
“We have been left with no choice but to stop our activities, as our clinics are encircled by Israeli forces,” says Jacob Granger, the emergency coordinator for MSF in Gaza. “This is the last thing we wanted, as the needs in Gaza City are enormous, with the most vulnerable people—infants in neonatal care, those with severe injuries and life-threatening illnesses—unable to move and in grave danger.”

Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) warned Thursday that Palestinians in the occupied West Bank are facing mass forced displacement at the hands of the Israeli occupation army and illegal settlers, amounting to an imminent risk of ethnic cleansing.
In its statement, MSF stressed that Israel’s annexation-driven policies in the occupied West Bank represent grave breaches of international humanitarian law and human rights law.
According to the organisation, in 2025 MSF teams witnessed policies and practices that are “blatantly designed to remove Palestinians from their land and prevent any possibility of return.”
MSF concluded that “ending the occupation remains the only way to alleviate the severe suffering facing Palestinians.” The group urged the United States, European Union member states, and the wider international community to apply real pressure to halt Israel’s practices of displacement and ensure an end to its illegal occupation.
The warning came a day after far-right Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich declared that Tel Aviv intends to annex 82 per cent of the occupied West Bank under Israeli sovereignty in order to block the establishment of a Palestinian state.
In preparation for annexation, Israel has intensified its crimes in the West Bank since launching its genocide in the besieged Gaza Strip in October 2023. These crimes include home demolitions, mass displacement of Palestinian civilians, widespread land confiscation, and the accelerated expansion of illegal settlements.

Israel is deliberately depriving Palestinians in Gaza of access to clean water by destroying infrastructure and blocking imports of essential treatment equipment, international medical charity Doctors Without Borders (MSF) has said, Anadolu reports.
After 22 months of bombardments and restrictions, the amount of safe water available in the enclave is “wholly insufficient,” the medical charity known by its French acronym MSF said on Thursday in a statement, accusing Israel of using water as “a weapon of war.”
MSF noted that since June 2024, only one in ten of its requests to import items needed for desalination has been approved by Israeli authorities.
Seven MSF treatment units currently provide water for around 65,000 people, but this amounts to just 7.5 liters per person per day – far below emergency needs.
“Israel must begin allowing the importation of critical equipment for water supply and distribution at scale,” the organization stressed. “The Israeli military must stop its destruction of water infrastructure and allow the immediate repair of damaged systems.”
According to the MSF, Gaza has no naturally drinkable water because of salination and sewage contamination. But two of the three pipelines into Gaza have been repeatedly damaged since October 2023, and over 60% of the territory’s 196 desalination plants are now non-functional due to airstrikes or access restrictions.
The lack of clean water has fueled a surge in disease. The MSF medical teams reported conducting more than 1,000 consultations each week for acute watery diarrhea over the past month.
Poor hygiene has also led to widespread skin conditions such as scabies. Hospitals, too, are struggling without sufficient water to keep patients hydrated or prevent infections.
“There’s too little water for too many people,” said Mohammed Nsier, an MSF water and sanitation officer in Gaza.
“The amount we can provide is very small compared to the need, and conditions are extremely difficult.”
Displacement orders issued by the Israeli army – now covering 86% of Gaza – have made it unsafe for water trucks to reach many communities. Even when deliveries are possible, families must walk long distances with heavy containers, often through bomb-damaged neighborhoods, the statement said..
“You see how people are struggling, everyone is desperate for water,” said a woman waiting at a distribution in Gaza City.
“Honestly, it’s very hard to get water, even walking a little bit is very difficult. I don’t know what to tell you—it’s torture.”
The charity warned that its attempts to repair existing pipelines and plants are hampered by Israeli restrictions on importing spare parts, chemicals, and fuel.
“By refraining from cutting off water entirely, they allow plausible deniability while choking Palestinians of their means of survival,” said Ozan Agbas, MSF’s emergency manager.

The Israeli-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation’s (GHF) food distribution is “orchestrated killing and dehumanization,” French medical charity Doctors Without Borders (MSF) said on Thursday.
The organization, known by its French acronym MSF, accused Israeli forces and private American contractors of carrying out targeted and indiscriminate violence against starving Palestinians attempting to access food at GHF-operated sites.
It described the GHF as an “Israeli-US proxy that has militarized food distribution” in Gaza.
Titled “This is not aid. This is orchestrated killing,” the MSF report draws on medical data, patients’ testimonies, and firsthand observations from two MSF clinics located near GHF distribution points in southern Gaza.
Between June 7 and July 24, the two clinics treated 1,380 casualties linked to violence near GHF-run sites, including 28 who were declared dead upon arrival, the organization said.
Among those treated were 71 children with gunshot wounds, 25 of whom were under the age of 15. According to the MSF, many families, facing extreme food shortages, often send adolescent boys to distribution points, as they are often the only able-bodied males in the household.
The “MSF calls for the immediate dismantling of the GHF scheme; the restoration of the UN-coordinated aid delivery mechanism; and calls on governments, especially the United States, as well as private donors to suspend all financial and political support for the GHF, whose sites are essentially death traps,” it said.
On May 27, Israel launched the separate aid distribution initiative through the GHF, bypassing the UN and international humanitarian agencies.
Rejecting international calls for a ceasefire, the Israeli army has pursued a brutal offensive on Gaza since Oct. 7, 2023, killing more than 61,000 Palestinians, most of them women and children. The relentless bombing has destroyed the enclave, while the poor distribution of aid and a blockade has led to deaths by starvation.
