The UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) called Saturday for the entry of sheltering materials into the war-torn Gaza Strip as heavy rains flood tents of displaced civilians amid dire humanitarian conditions, Anadolu reports.

“Winter has come to Gaza,” the UNRWA said on US social media company X.

“Winter rains in Gaza are making conditions even more desperate. Families taking shelter anywhere they can, including in makeshift tents.”

The UN agency reiterated that it has the shelter supplies that are urgently needed in Gaza “to help people get through winter.”

According to Gaza Civil Defense, dozens of tents sheltering displaced Palestinians were flooded in Al-Mawasi in the southern city of Khan Younis.

Since early Friday, the Gaza Strip has been under a low-pressure system accompanied by a cold air mass and heavy rainfall, compounding the sufferings of 1.5 million displaced civilians in the war-torn enclave.

Israel continues to block the entry of shelter materials such as tents and mobile homes, reneging on its obligations under a ceasefire agreement that entered into force on Oct. 10.

Israel has killed more than 69,000 people, mostly women and children, in Gaza since October 2023 and reduced the enclave to rubble.

The UN said Friday that Israel has rejected 23 humanitarian aid requests since the Gaza ceasefire began on Oct. 10, leaving critical relief supplies blocked from entering the enclave, Anadolu reports.

“Millions of urgently needed shelter items remain stuck in Jordan and in Egypt and Israel as well, awaiting approval to enter Gaza,” UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric said at a news conference.

He said that “since the ceasefire began on October 10, Israeli authorities have rejected 23 requests from nine of our partners to bring in nearly 4,000 pallets of critical supplies, including tents, sealing and framing kits, bedding, kitchen sets, and blankets.”

Dujarric warned that the worsening conditions are putting civilians at further risk, noting that “the dire living conditions are also increasing people’s exposure to explosive ordnance, with children among those most at risk.”

“Since the ceasefire, our colleagues working on mine action have recorded more than 10 injuries from explosive hazards,” he said, adding that the risk is “further compounded by Gaza’s extremely limited geographical size, which leaves little room to avoid areas where there may be unexploded ordnance.”

Highlighting the severity of potential hazard zones, Dujarric reported that “even minimal contamination can have widespread and devastating consequences.”

“Since the ceasefire, our partners have responded to more than 70 requests for explosive-hazard assessments, supported 32 inter-agency missions, and delivered risk education sessions to over 49,000 people across Gaza,” he said, stressing that much more could be done if the UN Mine Action Service was allowed to “get access to detectors, spare parts, and equipment needed to safely dispose of explosive hazards.”

He further emphasized the need “for the full and sustained opening of existing and additional crossings, clearance of further critical items and equipment for entry, and comprehensive facilitation of our work and the work of our NGO partners.”

Broadening Assault on the Left, Trump Designates EU Anti-Fascist Groups as ‘Foreign Terrorist Organizations’

Spread the love

“We stick together – Antifa on the offensive!” reads a banner at a demonstration on June 14, 2025, in Jena, Thuringia, Germany, called by a broad alliance of anti-fascist groups under the slogan “Now more than ever! Anti-fascism is necessary!”.  (Photo by Daniel Vogl/Picture Alliance via Getty Images)

Investigative journalist Ken Klippenstein warns that the designation opens up US citizens to government surveillance, asset seizure, and material support charges.

President Donald Trump’s State Department on Thursday broadened his efforts to use “terrorism” to crush his enemies on the left, designating four European groups as “foreign terrorist organizations” based on their alleged connections to the vaguely defined network of leftist agitators known as “antifa,” short for “anti-fascist.”

Following the assassination of right-wing activist Charlie Kirk in September, Trump turned his attention toward waging a war on left-wing protest groups and liberal nonprofits, describing them as part of a vast, interconnected web that was fomenting “terrorism,” primarily through First Amendment-protected speech.

As part of that effort, Trump formally designated “antifa” as a “domestic terrorist organization,” even though it is not a formal group with any structure, but rather, a loose confederation of individuals all expressing an amorphous political belief. Civil rights advocates warned that the vague nature of the designation could be extended to bring terrorism charges against anyone who describes the Trump administration’s actions as fascist or authoritarian.

Shortly after, Trump also signed a little-reported national security order, known as National Security Presidential Memorandum 7 (NSPM-7), which mandated a “national strategy to investigate and disrupt networks, entities, and organizations that foment political violence so that law enforcement can intervene in criminal conspiracies before they result in violent political acts.”

Some of the indicators of potential violence, the memo said, were “anti-Americanism, anti-capitalism, and anti-Christianity,” “extremism on migration, race, and gender,” and “hostility towards those who hold traditional American views on family, religion, and morality.”

Referencing NSPM-7 explicitly, the State Department on Thursday spread that crusade against the left overseas, slapping four German, Greek, and Italian anarchist groups with the label of “foreign terrorist organization” (FTO). The same designation has been given to groups like al-Qaeda, ISIS, and al-Shabaab.

The groups targeted were Antifa Ost in Germany; the Informal Anarchist Federation/International Revolutionary Front (FAI/FRI) in Italy; Armed Proletarian Justice in Greece; and Revolutionary Class Self-Defense, also in Greece.

The State Department said:

The designation of Antifa Ost and other violent Antifa groups supports President Trump’s National Security Presidential Memorandum-7, an initiative to disrupt self-described ‘anti-fascism’ networks, entities, and organizations that use political violence and terroristic acts to undermine democratic institutions, constitutional rights, and fundamental liberties.

Groups affiliated with this movement ascribe to revolutionary anarchist or Marxist ideologies, including anti-Americanism, ‘anti-capitalism,’ and anti-Christianity, using these to incite and justify violent assaults domestically and overseas.

Each of the accused groups has had members charged with or convicted of violence, often against Neo-Nazis or adjacent far-right causes. But while they are more organized than America’s anti-fascist movement, they are still broad-based and diffuse.

Mirroring what studies have shown in the US, the far-right is responsible for the overwhelming bulk of political violence in the European Union. A 2024 study by Armed Conflict Location and Event Data (ACLED) found that across Europe, the far-right was responsible for 85% of the violent targeted incidents they tracked.

Though Greece was one exception, where far-left violence was more prevalent than far-right violence, Mary Bossis, an emeritus professor of international security at Piraeus University in Athens, told The Guardian that Greece’s anti-fascist movement has little to do with it.

“It is highly exaggerated to say that the antifa movement in Greece employs terror tactics,” she said. “They even run in elections and have never shown any sign of violence.”

While most social movements have some violent adherents, Bossis said, “that does not mean, as in the case of antifa, that the whole movement is either violent or supportive of terrorism. In fact, it is very much not the case… Standing against fascism does not make someone a terrorist.”

As Mark Bray, a Rutgers University professor who teaches a course on the history of antifascism, pointed out in The GuardianAntifa Ost is the only one of the four groups designated by Trump that self-identifies as anti-fascist.

“The others are revolutionary groups,” he said. “This shows how the Trump administration is trying to lump all revolutionary and radical groups together under the label ‘antifa’. By establishing the (alleged) existence of foreign antifa groups, the Trump administration seems to be setting the stage for declaring American antifa groups (and all that they deem to be ‘antifa’) to be affiliated with these supposed foreign terrorist groups.”

Ken Klippenstein, an independent investigative journalist who has warned about NSPM-7 since its release, noted that this marks the first time that an entity in any of these three European countries has ever been slapped with the label of an FTO.

“The move seems an attempt to make people accustomed to white Westerners being treated as terrorists,” he wrote Thursday. “That, after all, is the goal of Trump’s national security directive NSPM-7.”

While there is no law on the books to back Trump’s designation of antifa as a domestic terrorist organization, there is such a designation for foreign terrorist groups.

Being designated as a member of a foreign terrorist organization can subject one to significant sanctions, including having assets in American banks frozen, being unable to enter the country, or being prosecuted for “material support.”

The government has used accusations of terrorism to go much farther, including carrying out extrajudicial assassinations of targets. Over the past two months, the Trump administration has bombed over a dozen boats in the Caribbean using the unsubstantiated justification that their passengers are “narco-terrorists” shipping drugs for cartels, which the administration has also designated as FTOs. The attacks have killed at least 76 people.

Attorney General Pam Bondi suggested last month that the Trump administration planned to use the “same approach” to antifa as it has with cartels, leading many to fear that might include assassinations.

Mehdi Hasan, the founder of the media outlet Zeteo, said the designation of these groups as terrorist organizations was “super bad for US citizens, especially on the left of the spectrum,” because it “gives this authoritarian administration potentially the power to surveil and go after US citizens on spurious ‘funding of FTO’ grounds.”

The State Department noted in a fact sheet on the designations that it is also seeking to target those in the US accused of supporting these groups.

“US persons are generally prohibited from conducting business with sanctioned persons. It is also a crime to knowingly provide material support or resources to those designated, or to attempt or conspire to do so,” the memo said. “Persons that engage in certain transactions or activities with those designated today may expose themselves to sanctions risk. Notably, engaging in certain transactions with them entails risk of secondary sanctions pursuant to counterterrorism authorities.”

Klippenstein said that while Trump’s “domestic terrorist” designation was limited, “with an FTO designation, the gloves come off,” opening Americans up to “FISA surveillance, seizure of financial assets, [and] material support charges.”

As Israel Keeps Killing Palestinians, Tlaib Leads Bill Recognizing War on Gaza as Genocide

Spread the love

“After over two years of slaughter, forced starvation, and mass atrocities in Gaza, the global consensus is clear: The Israeli government has committed genocide against the Palestinian people in Gaza.”

Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib and 20 Democratic colleagues on Friday introduced legislation that would officially recognize Israel’s 25-month war on Gaza as a genocide, a move that came as Israeli forces continued killing Palestinians in the coastal strip and violating a tenuous ceasefire with Hamas.

Tlaib (D-Mich.)—the only Palestinian American in Congress—introduced H.Res. 876, which, if passed, would “officially recognize that the state of Israel has committed the crime of genocide against the Palestinian people in Gaza” and affirm that it is official US policy to “prevent and punish the crime of genocide, wherever it occurs.”

“The Israeli government’s genocide in Gaza has not ended, and it will not end until we act,” Tlaib said in a statement Friday. “Since the so-called ‘ceasefire’ was announced, Israeli forces haven’t stopped killing Palestinians.”

According to Gaza’s Government Media Office (GMO), Israel has violated the ceasefire agreement 282 times as of November 10, 2025—exactly one month after the US-brokered truce took effect. Alleged violations include airstrikes resulting in massacres, shootings of civilians, property demolitions, and raids beyond the ceasefire’s “yellow line” buffer zones.

GMO says Israeli forces have killed least 242 Palestinians and injured more than 620 others during the truce.

This, in addition to the at least 249,000 Palestinians who have been killed or wounded by Israeli forces since October 2023, including upward of 10,000 people who are missing and presumed dead and buried beneath the ruins of Gaza, which could take decades to clear. Around 2 million Palestinians have been starved, sickened, and forcibly displaced. Many others have been arbitrarily imprisonedtortured, and allegedly subjected to rape and other sexual abuse.

“After over two years of slaughter, forced starvation, and mass atrocities in Gaza, the global consensus is clear: The Israeli government has committed genocide against the Palestinian people in Gaza,” Tlaib noted.

She continued:

Palestinians in Gaza have attested to this genocide for over two years and it has been concluded by the United Nations Independent International Commission of Inquirythe International Association of Genocide Scholars, and highly respected international, Palestinian, and Israeli human rights organizations such as Amnesty InternationalHuman Rights WatchDoctors Without BordersAl-Haqthe Palestinian Centre for Human RightsAl Mezan Center for Human RightsB’TselemPhysicians for Human Rights Israelthe Lemkin Institute for Genocide PreventionForensic Architecture, and the University Network for Human Rights.

The resolution calls for the United States to “respect its obligations under the Genocide Convention by employing all means reasonably available to it to prevent and punish the crime of genocide.”

These include:

  • cessation of relevant arms and equipment transfers;
  • investigation and prosecution of individuals and corporations in the United States implicated in the crime of genocide;
  • compliance with the orders of the International Court of Justice and the investigations of the International Criminal Court (ICC); and
  • targeted, lawful sanctions with respect to the state of Israel and individuals or corporations involved in or facilitating the commission of genocide.

“Impunity only enables more atrocity,” Tlaib warned. “As our government continues to send a blank check for war crimes and ethnic cleansing, Palestinian children’s smiles are extinguished by bombs and bullets that say made in the USA.”

“To end this horror, we must reject genocide denial and follow our binding legal obligations under the Genocide Convention to take immediate action to pursue justice and accountability to prevent and punish the crime of genocide,” she added. “We must hold individual perpetrators and complicit corporations to account. We must stop sending weapons to a genocidal military. We must follow international law and use all means available to us, including sanctions, to bring this genocide to an end.”

Despite existing laws prohibiting US assistance to foreign security forces that commit gross human rights violations, the United States—which grew into a world power in part via genocide of Indigenous Americans—has provided arms and diplomatic cover to the perpetrators of genocides in ParaguayGuatemalaBangladeshEast TimorKurdistan, and Gaza over the past half-century, while turning a blind eye to other genocides.

Under the Biden and Trump administrations, the US has provided Israel with more than $20 billion in armed aid while thwarting efforts to end the genocide by vetoing numerous United Nations Security Council ceasefire resolutions.

The Trump administration has also slapped sanctions on ICC judges after the tribunal issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza, including murder and forced starvation.

Trump has also targeted individuals and nations who seek justice for Palestinians, acknowledge the Gaza genocide, or recognize Palestinian statehood.

Tlaib’s resolution is co-sponsored by Democratic Reps. Becca Balint (Vt.), André Carson (Ind.), Greg Casar (Texas), Maxine Dexter (Ore.), Maxwell Alejandro Frost (Fla.), Jesús “Chuy” García (Ill.), Al Green (Texas), Pramila Jayapal (Wash.), “Hank” Johnson Jr. (Ga.), Ro Khanna (Calif.), Summer Lee (Pa.), Jim McGovern (Mass.), Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (NY), Ilhan Omar (Minn.), Mark Pocan (Wis.), Ayanna Pressley (Mass.), Delia Ramirez (Ill.), Lateefah Simon (Calif.), Nydia Velázquez (NY), and Bonnie Watson Coleman (NJ).

The resolution—which is unlikely to get through the Republican-controlled Congress—is also endorsed by more than 100 organizations.

“This resolution is an important step towards recognizing Israel’s actions against Palestinians in the occupied Gaza Strip for what they are—genocide,” Amnesty International Middle East and North Africa advocacy director Elizabeth Rghebi said in support of the measure.

“The US ratified the Genocide Convention which imposes a duty on states to prevent and punish the crime,” Rghebi added. “Amnesty International calls on all members of Congress to urgently support this resolution and ensure the US begins taking the actions necessary to prevent and punish Israel’s genocide in Gaza.”

Beth Miller, political director at Jewish Voice for Peace Action, said that “for over two years, the US has been a full partner in the Israeli government’s genocide against Palestinians. Presidents and members of Congress have denied and erased Israel’s ongoing atrocities in Gaza, shielded Israel from accountability in the international arena, and attempted to dehumanize Palestinians.”

“Congresswoman Tlaib and the original co-sponsors joining her on this historic resolution are making clear that this complicity must come to an end,” Miller added. “These representatives are heeding the call of the overwhelming majority of Americans who want to see an end to his genocide and a halt to US support for war crimes.”

Because ‘This Is Murder,’ Family of Colombian Fisherman Killed by Trump Readies Legal Fight

“We want this case to help stop these killings from taking place again,” said the American lawyer representing the family.

Family members of a Colombian fisherman killed in one of the Trump administration’s illegal strikes on boats in the Caribbean is preparing to take legal action over what they describe as the murder of their loved one.

The New York Times reported Thursday that the family of Alejandro Carranza “has hired an American lawyer, who said he was preparing a legal claim.”

The lawyer, Dan Kovalik, told the Times that the impending case is important both because “the family deserves compensation for the loss” of Alejandro and, more broadly to stop the Trump administration from killing people with impunity.

“We want this case to help stop these killings from taking place again,” Kovalik said. “This is murder, and it is destroying rule of law.”

The description of Carranza’s killing as murder aligns with the views of United Nations experts and human rights advocates who have characterized the Trump administration’s bombings in international waters as extrajudicial killings. To date, the administration has carried out at least 19 strikes on vessels in international waters, killing an estimated 75-80 people in total.

“I never thought I would lose my father in this way,” said Cheila Carranza, Alejandro’s 14-year-old daughter.

Trump has claimed, without providing any evidence, that the targeted vessels were smuggling drugs to the US. Though his body has yet to be found, Carranza is believed to have been killed in an attack in the Caribbean on September 15, part of the Trump administration’s broader military campaign and buildup in the region that has sparked fears of a direct US war with Venezuela and other nations.

The attack infuriated Colombia President Gustavo Petro, who suspended intelligence cooperation with the US in response and accused the Trump administration of trampling international law.

“If intelligence communications only serve to kill fishermen with missiles, it is not only irrational, but a crime against humanity, insofar as the murder of civilians is systematic,” Petro wrote in a lengthy social media post earlier this week.

“Colombia respects international law and defends it because it is the only wall we have as a human civilization against the barbarism that threatens to take over all of humanity,” he added.
