A Palestinian was killed in a new attack by illegal Israeli settlers in the occupied West Bank on Tuesday, Palestinian authorities said, Anadolu reports.
Moheeb Jibril, 19, was shot dead by an illegal settler in the town of Tuqu’, southeast of Bethlehem, the Palestinian Colonization and Wall Resistance Commission, an official body, said in a statement.
According to witnesses, an Israeli settler got out of his vehicle and opened fire at Jibril, killing him and seriously wounding another young man.
Jibril is the second Palestinian to have been killed in Tuqu’ in less than 24 hours, after a Palestinian teen was shot dead by Israeli forces on Monday evening during an army raid in the town.
The new fatality brought the number of Palestinians killed by illegal settlers this year to 15, and 37 since the start of the Israeli war on Gaza in October 2023.
Israeli forces and illegal settlers have killed at least 1,097 Palestinians in the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem, injured nearly 11,000, and detained around 21,000 since October 2023, according to Palestinian figures.
In a landmark opinion last July, the International Court of Justice declared Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territory illegal and called for the evacuation of all settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.

A member of the European Parliament (MEP), Matjaz Nemec, publicly presented on Tuesday the nomination of UN Special Rapporteur on the occupied Palestinian territories, Francesca Albanese, and Gaza-based doctors for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize, following its official submission to the Norwegian Nobel Committee, Anadolu reports.
The nomination was signed by nearly 300 eligible proposers from 33 countries, including Brazil, South Africa, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom, according to a statement shared by Nemec on US social media company X.
Nemec said the nomination “is an expression of respect for the courage, efforts, and perseverance of individuals who defend fundamental human values in the most difficult circumstances” and “represents a contribution to peace that transcends political divisions.”
He highlighted Albanese’s work in upholding international law and human rights, noting that she continues her mission despite facing “strong political pressure” and sanctions from Israel and the United States.
“Francesca Albanese holds up a mirror to us all and is firmly committed to international law and the foundations we built in response to the greatest massacre in human history – World War II,” he said.
The nomination also includes Gaza-based doctors, such as Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya and Dr. Sara Al-Saqqa, who risk their lives amid armed conflict to carry out medical duties.
Nemec said: “With the health infrastructure completely destroyed and the acute shortage of basic necessities, they realize the values of humanity, solidarity and peace every day by saving lives and adhering to medical ethics, and they more than deserve this kind of award.”
The lawmaker emphasized that the global campaign for the nomination calls on the international community and political leaders worldwide to respect international law, human rights, and human dignity under all circumstances.
Since Oct. 10, the Israeli army has committed hundreds of ceasefire violations, killing at least 391 Palestinians and injuring 1,063 others, according to the latest figures by the Gaza Health Ministry.
Israel has killed more than 70,600 people, mostly women and children, and injured over 171,100 others in attacks in Gaza since October 2023.

European members of the UN Security Council on Tuesday cited more than 260 illegal Israeli settler attacks against Palestinians in a single month, condemning what they described as record levels of violence in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem, Anadolu reports.
Speaking on behalf of the E5 — Denmark, France, Greece, Slovenia and the UK, British Ambassador James Kariuki said the Council would meet to discuss Resolution 2334, which “explicitly condemns settlement activities and calls on Israel to respect its obligations under international law.”
He warned that “the government of Israel continues to implement policies which contravene this resolution and contribute to rising instability in the West Bank,” adding that this “risks undermining the implementation of the 20-point plan for Gaza and the prospects for a two-state solution, as well as long-term peace and security across the region.”
“We strongly condemn the unprecedented rise in settler violence against Palestinian civilians of all faiths and denominations in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, with 2025 the most violent year on record,” said Kariuki.
Citing data from the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), he stated that “there were over 260 attacks on Palestinians and their property in October alone. This is deeply alarming.”
“These attacks terrorize civilians, obstruct peace efforts and threaten the security of Israel itself,” he said, calling on Israel “to abide by its obligations under international law and protect the Palestinian population of the occupied territories.”
The E5 reiterated its “call for the preservation of and respect for the status quo of Jerusalem’s holy sites.”
“We reiterate our firm opposition to any form of annexation and to the government of Israel’s settlement policies that violate international law,” Kariuki said, stressing that Israel’s decisions to allocate 2.5 billion shekels ($836,527) of funding for illegal settlements, forced evictions of Palestinians in East Jerusalem, approval of E1 settlement plan as well as “thousands of new housing units all risk destabilization and undermine the viability of a Two-State Solution.”
Kariuki emphasized the “vital” work of UNRWA. “We are shocked by Israeli authorities entering UNRWA’s compound in East Jerusalem on 8 December without prior authorization,” he said.
He noted the “inviolable” status of UN premises under international law, and demanded that Israel “respect” and “act fully in line with its obligations under international law.”
On the “precarious” economic situation in the occupied West Bank, Kariuki said, “The continued withholding of Palestinian tax revenues, threats to withdraw correspondent banking relationships, and limits on shekel transfers are wholly unjustifiable.”
“These measures risk financial collapse in the West Bank and a fiscal crisis for the Palestinian Authority, weakening its ability to deliver services, reform and assume responsibilities in Gaza as envisaged in Security Council resolution 2803,” he said.
He demanded that Israel “urgently release withheld revenues, remove or significantly increase shekel transfer limits, and confirm a longer-term extension for correspondent banking relationships to avert economic collapse and uphold prospects for peace and stability.”
“We are deeply concerned by the movement restrictions, forced displacement, and the conduct of operations by Israeli security forces in the West Bank, aggravating the humanitarian situation, and call for their immediate end,” he said.

dizzy: It’s strange and hypocritical that a UK ambassador is calling on Israel to “… respect its obligations under international law.”

Historian Greg Grandin argued that Trump’s foreign policy will likely result in “more confrontation, more brinkmanship, more war.”
Yale historian Greg Grandin believes that President Donald Trump’s foreign policy is putting the US on a dangerous course that could lead to a new world war.
Writing in The New York Times on Monday, Grandin argued that the Trump administration seems determined to throw out the US-led international order that has been in place since World War II.
In its place, Grandin said, is “a vision of the world carved up into garrisoned spheres of competing influence,” in which the US has undisputed control over the Western Hemisphere.
As evidence, he pointed to the Trump White House’s recently published National Security Strategy that called for reviving the so-called Monroe Doctrine that in the past was used to justify US imperial aggression throughout Latin America, and that the Trump administration is using to justify its own military adventures in the region.
Among other things, Grandin said that the Trump administration has been carrying out military strikes against purported drug smuggling boats in the Caribbean and the Pacific Ocean, and has also been “meddling in the internal politics of Brazil, Argentina, and Honduras, issuing scattershot threats against Colombia and Mexico, menacing Cuba and Nicaragua, increasing its influence over the Panama Canal, and seizing an oil tanker off the coast of Venezuela.”
Most ominously, Grandin said, is how the US Department of Defense has been “carrying out a military buildup in the Caribbean that is all but unprecedented in its scale and concentration of firepower, seemingly aimed at effecting regime change in Venezuela.”
A large problem with dividing the globe into spheres controlled by major powers, Grandin continued, is that these powers inevitably come into violent conflict with one another.
Citing past statements and actions by the British Empire, Imperial Japan, and Nazi Germany, Grandin argued that “as the world marched into a second global war, many of its belligerents did so citing the Monroe Doctrine.”
This dynamic is particularly dangerous in the case of Trump, who, according to Grandin, sees Latin America “as a theater of global rivalry, a place to extract resources, secure commodity chains, establish bulwarks of national security, fight the drug war, limit Chinese influence, and end migration.”
The result of this policy shift, Grandin concluded, “will most likely be more confrontation, more brinkmanship, more war.”

Relations between Israel and Egypt have entered a new phase of tension, with Cairo reportedly asking the United States to intervene to curb the actions of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, according to Israel’s Channel 14.
The channel cited Israeli Middle East analyst Yoni Ben-Menachem, who said the dispute centres on Israeli military activity along the so-called “yellow line” inside the Gaza Strip and on changes Israel is making to the area’s geography. Egypt, he said, views these moves as a direct threat to its strategic and regional interests.
Ben-Menachem warned that Israeli-Egyptian relations are deteriorating rapidly and revealed that Washington recently attempted to organise a trilateral summit involving US President Donald Trump, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and Netanyahu in an effort to contain the crisis.
According to the report, Egypt set several preconditions for the meeting that Israel rejected. These included a full Israeli withdrawal from the Philadelphi Corridor, the reopening of the Rafah crossing in both directions, and immediate approval of a major gas agreement involving imports from Israel’s Leviathan gas field.
Ben-Menachem said Egypt has formally complained to Washington, accusing Israel of seeking to divide the Gaza Strip into two parts and of altering its demographic and topographical landscape—moves Cairo believes could undermine regional stability.
Egyptian concerns have reportedly intensified following comments by Israeli Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir, who described the “yellow line” as a new defensive and offensive military line. These remarks, Ben-Menachem said, were taken very seriously in Cairo.
Israeli military operations in the area, including the destruction of tunnel infrastructure and the demolition of homes, are being interpreted by Egypt as preparations for a long-term Israeli military presence in Gaza. This perception has prompted Cairo to pursue urgent diplomatic engagement with Washington.
Channel 14 added that while the United States did attempt to convene a trilateral summit in Washington, the initiative ultimately collapsed after Egypt insisted on conditions Israel deemed unacceptable.
