Yemen’s Houthi group has claimed it launched missile and drone attacks on “sensitive targets” in the Saudi capital Riyadh alongside a separate attack on facilities of oil firm Saudi Aramco in coastal Yanbu, Anadolu reports.
Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree wrote on US social media company X on Friday that the group carried out two operations using “a large number of ballistic and cruise missiles as well as drones.”
He said the first operation targeted “sensitive targets” in Riyadh, while the second targeted Saudi Aramco in the western coastal city of Yanbu.
There has been as yet no Saudi comment on the Houthi claims.
Earlier Saturday, Saudi Civil Defense alerts reached Riyadh for the first time in the latest wave of warnings, with two alerts issued in the capital and two others in the Al-Kharj province. Authorities did not specify the nature of the threat or report casualties or damage linked to the warnings.

The warnings came a day after Saudi Civil Defense announced that the danger had passed in seven cities and provinces stretching from the southwest to the northwest of the kingdom following a broader series of alerts.
On Thursday, Saudi authorities said one person was killed and two others injured by falling debris from a Houthi drone that was intercepted and destroyed over the western city of Taif. Several buildings and vehicles were also damaged.
Saudi authorities have issued similar warnings in several cities and regions in recent days before later announcing that the danger had passed.
On July 20, the Houthis announced what they called a “maritime blockade” on Saudi Arabia before later claiming missile and drone attacks on Saudi-linked vessels and sites.
Saudi Arabia has led a coalition supporting Yemen’s internationally recognized government since March 2015 against the Houthis, who have controlled the capital Sanaa and several provinces since September 2014.

Yemen’s Houthi group claimed Tuesday that it targeted the Saudi oil tanker NCC GHAZAL with ballistic missiles, forcing the vessel to turn back, Anadolu reports.
Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree said in a statement on US social media platform X that the tanker had violated what the group describes as its maritime ban on Saudi-linked shipping.
He claimed the vessel ignored repeated warnings before being targeted with multiple ballistic missiles, without identifying where the attack took place.
According to Saree, the attack forced the tanker to reverse course and return in the direction from which it had come.

The claim could not be independently verified, and there was no immediate comment from Saudi authorities or the vessel’s operator.
The Houthis announced on July 20 what they called a maritime navigation ban on Saudi Arabia, claiming it was in response to what they describe as a Saudi blockade on areas under their control in Yemen.
Last week, the group also claimed to have targeted two Saudi oil tankers in the Red Sea with ballistic missiles and drones, alleging the attacks caused fires aboard the vessels. Saudi authorities have vowed to take necessary measures to protect their vessels.

Yemen’s Houthi group on Monday declared “a maritime blockade” on Saudi Arabia effective immediately, Anadolu reports.
Military spokesman Yahya Saree said in a televised statement on the group’s Al-Masirah television that a ban on Saudi-linked maritime navigation “has entered into force from the moment of issuing this statement.”
Saree warned that any Saudi escalation would be met with what he called a “comprehensive and severe escalation.”
There was no immediate Saudi comment on the Houthi announcement.
Last week, the Houthi group accused Saudi Arabia of carrying out an airstrike on the Sanaa airport and launched missiles toward Saudi territory, breaking years of calm. While Riyadh did not comment on the Houthi accusation, Yemen’s internationally recognized government claimed responsibility for the strike, saying it targeted the airport to prevent an Iranian aircraft from landing.

The leader of Yemen’s Houthi group said Thursday that his movement “is not neutral” in the ongoing war between Iran, the US and Israel, warning that his group will intervene militarily if regional developments dictate it, Anadolu reports.
“We are not neutral, but our position stems from belonging to Islam and the Islamic nation,” Abdul-Malik al-Houthi said in a televised speech cited by the group’s Al-Masirah television.
“Any field developments will be met with military stance if needed, as in previous rounds.”
He said the US-Israeli strikes on Iran have harmed the economic interests of the world’s countries and regional security and stability, calling the assault “unjustified.”

“Developments in the region over the past years show that the US and Israel are working to implement a Zionist plot that targets all countries of the region with a view to changing the Middle East and creating the Greater Israel,” he said.
Backed by Iran, the Houthis control most of Yemeni provinces, including the capital Sanaa, since 2014.
The group carried out missile and drone attacks against Israel and ships passing in the Red Sea in retaliation for Israel’s deadly offensive on the Gaza Strip, which has killed more than 72,000 people since October 2023.
The US and Israel have maintained airstrikes on Iran since Feb. 28, killing so far over 1,340 people, including then-Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
Iran has retaliated with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, along with Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf countries hosting US military assets, causing casualties and damage to infrastructure while disrupting global markets and aviation.
