The Young Greens of England and Wales is now officially the largest youth and student wing of any British political party.

Following on from the Green Surge, with Green Party membership now at over 150,000, the Young Greens have over 40,000 members – making them larger than Young Labour.

The Green Party is also polling at over 40% with young people aged 18-24, and is now the most popular party with under-50s.

Zack Polanski, leader of The Green Party, said:

“We meant it when we said we’re here to replace Labour – and I could not be happier that our incredible Young Greens are yet again leading the way.

“Young people have been let down by successive Conservative and Labour governments, so it’s no surprise that they are desperate for an alternative.

“I said the Green Party wants to make hope normal again, and up and down the country our Young Greens are engaging in bold politics – whether they are members, activists or elected representatives – and doing that each and every day.

“It’s become a media commonplace to say that young people are going to Reform, so let’s set the record straight. The Young Greens are the biggest youth and student wing of any political party in the UK. They are the biggest Green youth movement in Europe, and recent polling shows the Green Party is now the most popular party among young people.

“Britain’s young people are going Green.”

The Young Greens includes all party members who are under the age of 30, or full time students; over 20 universities have Young Green societies, with more campuses organising every day. They also have independent leadership, internal decision-making structures, and policies that are distinct from the main party.

Ciara Alleyne, Co-Chair of the Young Greens, said:

“Our generation knows that Labour won’t stand up for them or their future. They are looking for an alternative and despite what the media says, it is not Reform they are flocking to.

“Young people know what matters to them, and they are willing to fight for it by becoming part of a movement that spreads hope, not hatred and fear.

“We are ecstatic to have the largest youth and student wing in the UK, but it is only the start. We are organising across the country to take on politicians across the spectrum who are scapegoating the vulnerable and deferring to the wishes of the 1%.

“It’s our future more than anyone else’s, and we’re making sure it’s a bright one.”

A huge jump in members has landed the party with a multi-million pound windfall.

The Green Party has raked in £4 million in donations since Zack Polanski became leader, it has emerged.

The huge windfall – which is almost as much as the party usually raises in a year – comes as the Greens enjoy a huge surge in popularity.

A poll earlier this month put the party ahead of Labour for the first time

Membership numbers have risen to more than 150,000, with 78,000 signing up last month alone – leading to the huge boost in the party’s coffers.

Left-winger Polanski was only elected the Green Party leader in September, but since then its rise has been meteoric.

He said last week that the Greens are “now the real opposition in British politics”.

“The only party able to hold this failing Labour government to account while also taking the fight to Reform,” he said. “This isn’t a protest vote; it’s a movement. And we’re only just getting started.”

The boost to the party’s war chest will allow them to spend far more money campaigning ahead of next May’s elections in Scotland, Wales and England.

Richard Wilson, the Greens’ head of finance, told The Times that the sudden influx of cash will allow the party to spend money on things it could not afford previously.

He calls for people to stop obstructing his genocide for Israel.

Zack Polanski: The right can mock my teeth all it wants – it shows the Greens have struck a nerve

Since winning the Green party leadership – and as our party has risen in the polls, with our membership surging – I’ve been listening closely to what people say when they stop me in the street. The vast majority have been supportive, while those who haven’t agreed with my politics have still been broadly respectful.

That reception in the street differs dramatically from how my leadership has been met by parts of the media. In a democracy, I should expect a challenge. Indeed, I’m not one to shy away from debate. But the reaction has gone far beyond good-faith questioning of my policy positions, or analysis of what my party is offering.

Instead, I’ve been the target of relentless nastiness – ranging from crass insults about my appearance in mainstream news outlets to the attempted ridicule of my politics by influential commentators. Of course, in being hounded by the media I am by no means unique. These attacks are often made on people with less power and privilege than me. How must it feel for members of the public who find themselves in the public eye and targeted by the tabloid media?

What’s now clear to me, both from the sheer number of attacks and their increasingly wild nature, is that they are a product of a political and media establishment rattled by a party that’s growing fast and willing to say the unsayable: that our country has been hijacked by those interested only in serving the super-wealthy.

When I was elected, I said I wanted the Green party to replace Labour as the progressive choice for people. I mean it. One poll in late October put us ahead of Labour for the first time and suggested the Greens could take the seat of Holborn and St Pancras from Keir Starmer. That’s what smashing the stale, old two-party politics and replacing Labour looks like.

The bad news for those who attack me is that we simply won’t back down. They can sound off about my teeth all they want. But the more I see them panic about the replacement of the politics of hate with a politics of hope, the more we know our movement is on the right track.
