He also announced that he will be standing to be an MP in Clacton

In a bizarre twist in the 2024 general election campaign, the Reform party has announced it is changing its leader less than five weeks before polling day.

In an emergency press conference, the party’s then leader Richard Tice announced that the party’s honorary president Nigel Farage would be taking over from him.

Tice told the press conference: “As people know, I wanted Nigel to be able to give as much energy and effort, commitment to this campaign, as he felt able to do.”

He went on to add: “I thought well actually, what I really want to do is to invite Nigel Farage to become leader of Reform UK.”

After being introduced by Tice, Farage took the stage to say: “Richard is more than happy for me to put my head and shoulders firmly over the parapet and take the flack. So I’m coming back as leader of Reform UK, but not just for this election campaign.”

Farage then said that he will be leader of Reform for the next five years.

At the press conference, Farage also announced that he will be Reform UK’s parliamentary candidate for Clacton, the only seat that his former party UKIP won in the 2015 general election.

Basic UK local elections maths

Math in the US, maths in the UK …

Summary of my basic maths on the UK election results so far. I’m starting from the interim results reported at https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/election/2024/england/results at 10.10 am BST, there are still a few results to be announced.

The Conservative Party has done very poorly, losing 48.5% of it’s elected councillors.

The Labour Party has only a 20% gain in elected councillors and so hasn’t done particularly well from Conservative losses.

The Liberal Democrats have a 25% gain, getting an extra 101 elected councillors.

The Green Party and Independents have a gain of between 69 and 70%, the big winners yet again.

Residents Associations have a 30% gain.

Reform UK have done well with 2 councillors, none before.

Workers Party of Britain – George Galloway’s party – have done very well with 4 councillors, none before.

My maths skills are not capable of calculating percentage increase from nothing to 2 or 4, don’t know how it is applied.

“He is well aware what those weeks of national TV exposure have done for him – and the position he could be in to help Reform.”

Former UKIP leader Nigel Farage is set to announce a return to frontline politics it has been reported, as he seeks to capitalise on the increased media exposure he has gained following his appearance on I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!

The Mirror reports that the former UKIP politician, 60, who retired in 2021, ‘is understood to want to stand as a parliamentary candidate this year. And it comes after sources say he is determined to make the most of the exposure he gained in the I’m A Celebrity jungle.’

There have previously been rumours that Farage was considering joining the Tory party, after his appearance at the party’s conference and after Prime Minister Rishi Sunak hinted that he could be welcomed in the ‘broach church’ of the Conservative Party.

However, sources have told the Mirror that he wanted to capitalise on the recent media exposure he has gained, including on GB News.

“The shitbag returns”.

‘This should end Ben Habib’s career. It won’t. But in any rational universe it would’

Deputy leader of Reform UK has suggested that migrants should be left to drown in the Channel by the UK in a shocking exchange that has caused widespread outrage.

Ben Habib made the disturbing comments in an interview with Julia Hartley-Brewer on Talk TV when asked how his right-wing party would handle migrants coming to England on small boats.

He told the presenter: “I said that we could, as an idea, provide them with another dinghy into which to climb and then go back to France. And if they choose to scupper that dinghy, then yes, they have to suffer the consequences of their actions.”

“Then you would leave them to drown?”, asked Hartley-Brewer.

Habib replied: “Absolutely, they cannot be infantilised to the point that we become a hostage to fortune.”

‘What makes you think you understand how climate change works better than all of the world’s scientific experts?’

The leader of Reform UK was dealt a humiliating hand on BBC Question Time after facing a backlash against his arguments on climate change and climate denial.

Richard Tice got owned by leader of the Green Party Carla Denyer during a lively exchange about what action needs to be taken to combat the climate crisis.

The leader of the right-wing populist party, who’s been known to make bizarre and inaccurate statements on climate science denial, instigated some eye rolls when he stated, “the climate has changed for millions and millions of years.. way before man-made CO2 emissions”.

He went on to face ridicule when questioned on his understanding of climate science and his lack of scientific background by Green Party leader and engineer by trade, Carla Denyer.

The Green MP said: “The news has been full of pretty alarming evidence that climate change is not a concern that is going to come down the track sometime in the future, it’s here right now.

“And the best time that we could have brought in the policies to tackle this was of course decades ago. We’ve known about climate change my whole life. Successive governments in the UK and internationally largely failed to do that. So the second best time to do it is right now.”

She added: “I’m an engineer by background. I didn’t want to be a politician, I’m in this because I realised the people in power making the decisions were not making the right ones to tackle this crisis.”
