After Israel’s military suggested that the United States bombed the enrichment complex, Iran launched a ballistic missile attack on an Israeli city that’s home to a nuclear research center.

The head of the United Nations nuclear watchdog issued a fresh demand for restraint on Saturday after the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran announced that the Shahid Ahmadi-Roshan uranium enrichment complex in Natanz “was subjected to a renewed attack” as the United States and Israel continue to bomb the Middle Eastern country.

The Iranian agency said that “technical assessments indicate that no radioactive material leakage has occurred and there is no danger to residents of the surrounding areas,” but the attack was a “violation of international laws and commitments,” including the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty.

The International Atomic Energy Agency “has been informed by Iran that the Natanz nuclear site was attacked today,” the UN watchdog confirmed on social media. “No increase in off-site radiation levels reported. IAEA is looking into the report.”

“IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi reiterates call for military restraint to avoid any risk of a nuclear accident,” the agency added.

The Times of Israel reported that “in response to a query… the Israel Defense Forces said that it did not conduct any strikes in the area and that it could not comment on American activities.”

The Israeli newspaper also noted that “Israel’s Kan news reported that the US had indeed struck the facility, using ‘bunker buster’ bombs to target the site. It cited unspecified sources.”

Later Saturday, The Times of Israel reported that at least 20 people were wounded in an Iranian ballistic missile attack on the Israeli city of Dimona, home to Shimon Peres Negev Nuclear Research Center.

The United States previously bombed Iran’s Natanz facility last June. The Associated Press highlighted Saturday that satellite images also suggest the site was damaged during the first week of the current war, which President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu launched on February 28.

Condemning the Saturday strike on Iran’s complex, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson said that “this is a brazen violation of international law, the charters of the UN and the International Atomic Energy Agency, as well as relevant resolutions of the UN Security Council and the agency’s General Conference.”

Russia has notably also generated fears of a nuclear accident with its ongoing invasion of Ukraine, launched in February 2022.

Trump has sent mixed messages about the US-Israeli war on Iran, both sending thousands more troops to the region this week while also saying on his Truth Social platform Friday that “we are getting very close to meeting our objectives as we consider winding down our great Military efforts in the Middle East with respect to the Terrorist Regime of Iran.”

According to the AP: “Iran’s capital saw heavy airstrikes overnight and into the morning, residents said, as thousands of worshippers converged on Tehran’s grand mosque for prayers marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan. Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said attacks would ‘increase significantly’ next week.”

US Kills at Least 2 More People in Yet Another Illegal Boat Bombing

US Southern Command shared on social media a 16-second clip of a strike on a boat in the eastern Pacific that killed three people on February 20, 2026. (Photo: screen grab/SOUTHCOM/X)

“This lawless killing for content cannot become mere background noise,” said one critic.

The Trump administration isn’t letting its unconstitutional war with Iran stop its illegal boat-bombing campaign in Latin America.

US Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) said on Friday that it had conducted yet another lethal boat strike on a suspected drug boat traveling in what it described as “known narco-trafficking routes in the Eastern Pacific.”

‘This Is Murder’: Trump Strike Kills 3 More Boaters in the Pacific

While SOUTHCOM initially said that three men survived the Thursday strike, a spokesperson for the US Coast Guard subsequently told CNN reporter Zachary Cohen that two of the men on the boat were killed, while a lone survivor was rescued and taken into custody by authorities in Costa Rica.

According to Cohen, at least 160 people have so far been killed by the Trump administration’s boat strikes, which several legal experts have described as illegal acts of murder.

The latest strike on a suspected drug vessel came on the same day Gen. Francis L. Donovan, the commander of SOUTHCOM, told the Senate Armed Services Committee that the Trump administration’s boat-bombing spree is “not the answer” to the drug addiction crisis in the US.

As reported by The New York Times on Thursday, Donovan told lawmakers that the strikes are “probably not the most effective” tool to combat illicit drug trafficking, and said he was developing a more comprehensive plan to stop the flow of drugs into the US.

Human rights group Amnesty International slammed Donovan for carrying out another strike even while acknowledging their negligible impact on the drug trade.

“Congress must take action against these strikes!” the group said in a social media post.

Brian Finucane, senior adviser at the International Crisis Group, expressed concern that the Trump administration’s Iran war was distracting from the other illegal killing it is carrying out.

“This lawless killing for content cannot become mere background noise,” he wrote.

A coalition of rights organizations led by the ACLU last year sued the Trump administration to demand it release documents that provide legal justification for its boat-bombing campaign.

The groups said that the Trump administration’s rationales for the strikes deserve special scrutiny because their justification hinges on claims that the US is in an “armed conflict” with international drug cartels akin to past conflicts between the US government and terrorist organizations such as al-Qaeda.

The groups argued there is simply no way that drug cartels can be classified under the same umbrella as terrorist organizations, given that the law regarding war with nonstate actors says that any organizations considered to be in armed conflict with the US must be an “organized armed group” that is structured like a conventional military and engaged in “protracted armed violence” with the US government.

Morning Star Editorial: Starmer is not trying to ‘de-escalate’ the war on Iran – he has got us involved

A US Air Force B-1 bomber is loaded with bombs at RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire, March 16, 2026

OUR government is lying about its role in Trump’s war on Iran. As Tehran’s warning to Yvette Cooper shows, it isn’t fooling foreign governments; and as demonstrators will make clear on Saturday at RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire, it isn’t fooling people at home either.

US bombers are on the tarmac there, being loaded with bombs to drop on Iran.

Keir Starmer’s claim that they will only be used for “specific and defensive” activity would be unenforceable even if the concept of “defensive” bombing in a war of aggression begun by the US made sense.

As the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament notes, in reality the British government cannot control and is probably not even informed of the bombers’ targets.

The first day of the war saw a “double tap” Tomahawk missile strike by the US destroy a school, killing 175 people, most of them schoolgirls. Operation Epic Fury began with an epic war crime.

British bases must be closed to US forces.

That would be de-escalation in practice, helping to contain the war. It would atone for our complicity in US war crimes. By limiting the number of sites from which attacks can be launched, it could contribute to the security guarantees that might bring peace a little closer.

For now, we are part of this war. Only by refusing that can we help to end it.

Iran’s Foreign Minister has warned Yvette Cooper in a phone call that allowing US use of UK bases is considered as British “participation in aggression”.

Green MPs and peers have written to Keir Starmer expressing alarm at the UK’s involvement in the illegal US-Israeli war on Iran and pressing the Prime Minister to answer a number of urgent questions – including what control, if any, the UK has over US strikes launched from British bases and whether British-made weapons components are being used in breach of international law.

They note that the UK is obliged under international law to have no involvement in illegal military action, including the use of UK bases and UK-made weapons, and reiterate demands for an end to all UK complicity in this illegal war.

FULL TEXT OF LETTER

Dear Prime Minister,

We are writing as Green Party MPs and Peers to express our alarm at the UK’s involvement in the illegal US-Israeli war on Iran.

Already well over 1,000 civilians have been killed, including a reported 168 children killed by a missile now widely believed to be from the United States (Guardian, 2026). UNICEF has reported that the Israeli military’s assault on Lebanon is killing or injuring the equivalent of one classroom of children every day (Reuters, 2026).

In addition to the grave humanitarian impacts, the longer this illegal, unnecessary war continues, the greater the global economic fallout – to which the UK is particularly exposed because it remains heavily reliant on fossil fuels.

In light of this, there are urgent questions your government must answer:

  • What steps, if any, is your government taking to ensure that B-1 and B-52 bombers taking off from RAF Fairford are being used for ‘specific, limited defensive purposes’ – as you committed to?
  • What assessment have you made, if any, of how many Iranian civilians have been killed by US bombing missions from British air bases?
  • Are target lists for US strikes from British soil approved by the Ministry of Defence before each mission or audited afterwards?
  • Is the US being permitted to load banned cluster munitions at British bases?
  • What assessment has the government made of the risk of UK-made weapons components being used in violation of international law in Iran, including in the Tomahawk missile systems which may have been involved in the strike on the Shajareh Tayyerbeh girls’s school which killed a reported 168 children and 14 teachers, in the single deadliest known attack so far?
  • What assessment has the government made of the risk of UK-made weapons components being used by the Israeli government in violation of international law in Lebanon?

The UK is obliged under international law to have no involvement in illegal military action, including the use of UK bases and UK-made weapons. It is therefore of the utmost importance that these questions are answered as a matter of urgency.

This illegal war is inflicting untold suffering and devastation in the region and will cause huge and long lasting human, political, economic and environmental ramifications, as well as the immediate impact on the cost-of-living for our constituents. We, as Green Party MPs and Peers, reiterate our calls for the UK government to:

  • Withdraw all permission for the US to use UK military bases for attacks on Iran.
  • End all arms sales to and military cooperation with the Israeli government.
  • Impose sanctions on government officials responsible for breaches of international law.
  • Condemn the actions of Trump and Netanyahu for their flagrant violations of international law.
  • Refuse any further complicity in this illegal war.

Yours sincerely,

Dr Ellie Chowns MP

The media is gaslighting the public on Starmer and Iran

Prime Minister Keir Starmer and US President Donald Trump during a press conference at Chequers, near Aylesbury in Buckinghamshire, on day two of the president’s second state visit to the UK, September 18, 2025

The media present Starmer as staying out of Trump’s war — but we’re already deeply involved in a conflict that sees the US and Israel kill civilians on a huge scale, argues IAN SINCLAIR

WE are all being taken for mugs.

Over the last couple of weeks the mainstream liberal media has been gaslighting the British public about Prime Minister Keir Starmer and the war on Iran.

Starmer has given permission for the US, which is involved in an ongoing illegal, aggressive attack on Iran, to use British bases to bomb Iran — which is certainly a strange way of opposing the war.

As the media has shown little interest in seriously investigating the legality of the Starmer government’s position, it’s worth highlighting the analyses of several scholars of international law.

For example, Alexander Orakhelashvili, Professor of International Law at the University of Birmingham, describes the British government’s position of targeting missile facilities in Iran “which were involved” in attacks on Britain’s regional allies as “plainly beyond what the right to self-defence allows any state to do in such circumstances.”

He describes it as “more akin to collective reprisal,” and therefore not in line with the United Nations Charter or “customary international law.”

Writing on March 11, Thomas Obel Hansen, a senior research fellow with the School of Law at Ulster University, argues that “by permitting US heavy bombers to use its bases to launch strikes on Iran, the UK would not only make a significant contribution to the military campaign against Iran, but also one that is essentially offensive” making Britain “a party that actively supports a war of aggression on Iran.”

Adil Haque, Distinguished Professor of Law at Rutgers Law School, concurs, noting the British agreement with the US “would appear to be unlawful.” Why? “The United States is committing an unlawful act of aggression, and the United Kingdom cannot aid or assist in its commission. Air strikes against missile facilities in Iran have been, and will continue to be, an important component of the composite act of aggression. It is not possible to facilitate such air strikes without facilitating the act of aggression of which they are a part of.”

A March 9 YouGov survey found 59 per cent of respondents opposed the military action that the United States has taken against Iran, with 25 per cent in support (polls done by Survation and Opinium have had similar results). On Starmer’s specific decision to allow the US to use British air bases specifically to launch attacks against missile bases in Iran, a March 2 YouGov poll found 50 per cent of respondents were opposed, with 32 per cent in support.

It seems one can only think Starmer is “with public opinion” if you ignore the not unimportant fact that Starmer is actively helping the US to bomb Iran.

As investigative journalist Matt Kennard recently noted on X about the media’s inversion of reality: the “level of obedience and servitude within elite UK journalist circles — with no gulags — is genuinely incredible.”
