UK’s new Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood has announced that she will introduce laws further attacking and eroding the right to protest to enshrine Zionism into UK law. Institutionalized religious segregation and discrimination is a political system known as Theocracy.
Keir Starmer objects to criticism of the IDF. He asks how could anyone object to them starving people to death, forced marches like the Nazis did, bombing Gaza’s hospitals and universities, mass-murdering journalists, healthworkers and starving people queuing for food, killing and raping prisoners and murdering children. He calls for people to stop obstructing his genocide for Israel.
Ministers are to give police new powers to target repeated protests, aimed particularly at cracking down on demonstrations connected to Gaza, the Home Office has said.
The announcement, made the morning after almost 500 people were arrested in London for expressing support for Palestine Action, a proscribed organisation, could allow police to order regular protests to take place at a different site.
Shabana Mahmood, the home secretary, will also look at all anti-protest laws, with the possibility that powers to ban some protests outright could be strengthened.
…
If a protest has caused what a Home Office statement called “repeated disorder” at the same site for repeated weeks, police would be able to order the organisers to move it elsewhere, with anyone who fails to obey risking arrest.
Mahmood, the statement added, would “also review existing legislation to ensure that powers are sufficient and being consistently applied”, including police powers to ban some protests completely.
…
The powers appear to be aimed at both mass pro-Gaza demonstrations, which took place in London and some other cities over a period of weeks, and those held to support Palestine Action.
On Saturday, police arrested about 500 people at the latest such protest. It took place despite ministers, including Keir Starmer, asking that it be postponed following this week’s deadly attack on a synagogue in Manchester.
Mahmood indicated that this was directly connected to the proposed extra powers, saying: “It’s been clear to me in conversations in the last couple of days that there is a gap in the law and there is an inconsistency of practice.”
She continued: “I’ll be taking measures immediately to put that right, and I will be reviewing our wider protest legislation as well to make sure the arrangements we have can meet the scale of the challenge that we face, which is protecting the right to protest, but ensuring that our communities can go about their daily business without feeling intimidated, and also that public order can be maintained.”

Lamees Mehanna, an organizer with the Palestinian Youth Movement, spoke on the panel “Gaza is the Center of the World” at the People’s Conference for Palestine
The second annual “People’s Conference for Palestine: Gaza is the Compass” seeks to strengthen the growing movement for Palestinian liberation within the United States – Israel’s largest political and financial backer. The conference taking place in Detroit, began on August 29 and will conclude on August 31.
On the second day of the conference, Lamees Mehanna, an organizer with the Palestinian Youth Movement (PYM), spoke in the keynote session “Gaza is the Center of the World” reflecting on the centrality of Gaza and Palestine in today’s world and how the liberation of Palestine is part of transforming the entire world predicated on exploitation and war.
Read her full speech below:
For our generation, Palestine and Gaza are truly the defining issue of our time. For the PYM, Gaza has always been a centering force. In fact the PYM was formed during the 2009 war on Gaza 16 years ago. It is the issue that has transformed the lives of everyday people, people like you and I, who have rearranged, redefined, and recommitted our lives to struggle for Palestine.
The movement for Palestinian liberation has been able to weaken the bases of support for Israel and revealed the true face of Zionism as synonymous with genocide. There are many millions now around the world, including within the US, who will never believe Israel’s propaganda again, generations will grow up knowing the truth about Palestine. There have been major developments through organizing that we might have never thought possible a few years ago.
And yet, to our devastation, against our will, and at the cost of so many lives in Gaza, all of our actions have not stopped the genocide. And so our question is why?
Why has the genocide continued when the masses of the world have shown day in and day out where they stand? Why has the genocide continued when over 80% of Americans support a ceasefire? Why has the genocide continued when international bodies, human rights organizations, genocide scholars and historians globally have laid out, in excruciating levels of detail, the reality of this genocide?
Why can’t the ICC actually prosecute Netanyahu? Why hasn’t the UN intervened in any real or tangible way? Why hasn’t every single country sanctioned Israel? Why are there still any corporations facilitating this genocide, from tech to logistics? Why does mainstream media continue to cover, euphemize, obscure, and hide Israel’s crimes?
One could look at these questions and feel stuck in their organizing or movement work across the world, and especially here in the United States.
But the continuation of this genocide is not due to a lack of will, or lack of hope, or lack of desire on the part of the people or the part of the movement to stop this. It is ultimately due to the character of our global system, and the role of states and corporations within it. The world order is designed to benefit the interests of a few states, and ultimately a few people, at the expense of the masses of the world, including the working people of this country. This genocide has revealed that, it has revealed the undemocratic nature at the core of the status quo.
The people of the world, the masses that stand with Gaza see this clearly now. This is what I think it means to say that Gaza is the compass. It means, then, that the only logical conclusion to ending this genocide is transforming the world that has allowed for it to happen. Gaza has made so clear the importance of confronting decades of policies that favor endless wars, lobbied for by weapons manufacturers, the pro-Israel lobbies, such as AIPAC, and other warhawk politicians. Policies that continue to line the pockets of billionaires, at the expense of the global majority, including the millions of hard working families in this country.
And the supporters of this genocide know this. They know if we are able to bring about the changes needed to not just end this genocide but to hold all those who have been complicit accountable, it means we have ushered in a new world. And so their response is to do anything they can to stop the march towards the truth, and to put forth such bold-faced lies.
That they’re telling you to deny what you see with your own two eyes. They’re telling us to deny our own intellect and morality, deny the burning tents and hospital beds, deny the double tap executions of medical workers and journalists, deny world-renowned research institutions that have published the death tolls, deny what every international human rights body has said and the international courts that have classified it as a genocide. They are telling you to deny the truth, and believe the Zionist propaganda instead.
But they make a huge miscalculation, which is that you and I, all of us in this room are proof of that. Which is that our commitment to truth and justice is unshakeable, our morality and our intellect will not be insulted, we will not be intimidated, and we will not be made to turn away from Gaza and we will not be complacent with a world system that does.
We will not be denied the future Gaza deserves, the one where the Palestinian people can self-determine their future, see their children grow up and grow up to fulfil their dreams and aspirations, the one where international institutions can actually move to uphold conventions on human rights, without obstacle or fear of US intervention and sanctions, the one where we elect people that can actually represent us and not the interests of the few who bought their campaign. A future that brings an end to war profiteers and to the very idea of genocide and occupation.
This is what they fear the most. They fear a reality where Gaza is world altering; because it is. Gaza shows us that the choices are between building a just world or sliding into full scale barbarism. And we have chosen a just world
The movement for Palestinian Liberation is the movement of our lifetimes, it’s the movement that we have all chosen, it’s the movement of the future, it’s the only option and it’s the movement for all people of conscience, it’s a charge for all those who are willing to take it.
As Dr. Ghassan Abu Sitta often says and reminded us just now, tomorrow is a Palestinian day. Free, free Palestine!

Palestinian and Israeli activists take part in a protest against the killing of journalists in the Gaza Strip as they gather in the West Bank town of Beit Jala, August 15, 2025
With foreign media banned from Gaza, Palestinians themselves have reversed most of zionism’s century-long propaganda gains in just two years — this is why Israel has killed 270 journalists since October 2023, explains RAMZY BAROUD
THE killing of seven Palestinian journalists and media workers in Gaza on August 10 has prompted verbal condemnations, yet has inspired little to no substantive action. This has become the predictable and horrifying trajectory of the international community’s response to the ongoing Israeli genocide.
By eliminating Palestinian journalists like Anas al-Sharif and Mohammed Qraiqeh, Israel has made a sinister statement that the genocide will spare no-one. According to the monitoring website Shireen.ps, Israel has killed nearly 270 journalists since October 2023.
More journalists are likely to die covering the genocide of their own people in Gaza, especially since Israel has manufactured a convenient and easily deployed narrative that every Gazan journalist is simply a “terrorist.”
This is the same cruel logic offered by numerous Israeli officials in the past, including Israeli President Isaac Herzog, who declared that “an entire nation” in Gaza “is responsible” for not having rebelled against Hamas, effectively stating that there are no innocent people in Gaza.
This Israeli discourse, which dehumanises entire populations based on a vicious logic, is frequently repeated by officials who fear no accountability. Even Israeli diplomats, whose job in theory is to improve their country’s image internationally, frequently engage in this brutal ritual. In comments made in January 2024, Israeli ambassador to Britain, Tzipi Hotovely, callously argued that “every school, every mosque, every second house has access to tunnels,” implying that all of Gaza is a valid military target.

Protesters on Saturday also denounced the very close relationship between the governments of Milei and Netanyah
On August 9, thousands of Argentines took to the streets of the capital, Buenos Aires, demanding an end to the genocide being committed in Gaza, Palestine Israel. The slogan of the march was “We are all children of Gaza”.
The protesters denounced the indiscriminate attacks and forced starvation that, they claimed, Israeli forces are perpetrating against the civilian population.
The demonstration ended at Plaza de Mayo, where, according to some media outlets, more than 10,000 people demanded an end to the repressive actions in Palestine: “ Gaza is starving, time is up!” and “Palestine will prevail from the river to the sea” were some of the slogans chanted by the protesters as they waved Palestinian flags.
The march brought together human rights organizations, left-wing political parties, and various social movements, which declared that the only solution to any conflict in Palestine is peace, respect for sovereignty, and a dignified life for those who live there.
“We are facing genocide, which is confirmed by Israeli leaders themselves when they openly say that it is lawful to starve and dehydrate the entire population of Gaza, including its children. This genocide must be denounced relentlessly,” said Gabriel Solano, one of the leaders of the Left Front, during the mobilization.
For its part, the Palestinian Embassy in Argentina posted on X: “THANK YOU ARGENTINA, WE WILL NEVER FORGET! An impressive demonstration took place on Saturday, August 9, in Buenos Aires to denounce the genocide being carried out by the state of Israel against the Palestinian people.”
A close relationship between the governments of Argentina and Israel?
The demonstration also criticized the close ties between the Argentine and Israeli governments, which Argentine President Javier Milei (who recently traveled to the occupied Palestinian territories) has never denied. One of the slogans heard at the march was: “Milei, Zionist, you are the terrorist”.
Milei has announced that in 2026, he will relocate the Argentine embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, a move that Palestinians and several governments around the world have heavily criticized. For his part, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed that he will soon come to Argentina on an official visit, a move that various Argentine political movements and parties have strongly denounced.
In addition to Buenos Aires, demonstrations against the genocide in Palestine took place in other Argentine cities, such as San Carlos de Bariloche, El Bolsón, Trelew, Comodoro Rivadavia, Ushuaia, Río Grande, San Salvador de Jujuy, Salta, San Miguel de Tucumán, San Juan, La Rioja, Catamarca, Mendoza, Santa Fe, Concepción del Uruguay, Córdoba, Cosquín, Alta Gracia, Villa Dolores, La Plata, Bahía Blanca, Mar del Plata, Neuquén, and Viedma.
Solidarity with Palestine continues to grow
“The last three demonstrations have grown due to the news about the genocide taking place in Gaza,” Gabriela B., an activist with Nuestramérica and member of the Argentine Committee for Solidarity with the Palestinian People, told Peoples Dispatch. For her, there is a significant increase in support for the cause, “If there was ever a belief that people could ignore the situation in Palestine without it affecting their humanity or without their stance being noticed, that idea has been shattered.”
She also pointed out the importance of Israel in Argentina: “In Argentina, the situation is very difficult. As a colleague mentioned, Argentina is considered the capital of Zionism [in Latin America], which means that the mainstream media only broadcasts voices that cover up the genocide. Furthermore, any action or complaint related to Palestine is framed within the concept of anti-Semitism, making solidarity and questioning of the situation even more difficult. The silence is already unsustainable, and Netanyahu’s possible visit, as well as the famine in Gaza, have triggered acts of repudiation. This resulted in posts on the accounts of famous artists during the week and in the large march that took place not only in Buenos Aires but in 30 other locations throughout the country, including cities and provinces.”
Regarding the demands made by the protesters, Gabriela said: “The main demand was a call to stop the genocide and famine, and to reject the possible visit to Argentina by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.” Other demands included:
The withdrawal of Israeli troops from Palestine, Syria, and Lebanon.
Ending diplomatic relations with Israel. Cancelling the Mercosur-Israel agreement (a Free Trade Agreement between Israel and a bloc of South American countries).
Stop the persecution of those who show solidarity with the Palestinian people.
In Argentina, two prominent political figures are currently being persecuted for tweeting about the genocide in Gaza: Vanina Biasi and Alejandro Bodart.
When asked about the criticisms raised during the march against Milei’s close relationship with Netanyahu, Gabriela B. said that in the last month, key political and progressive movements have begun to join the movement in support of Palestine and rejecting Israel’s actions. After Saturday’s march, momentum has continued to build, “various complaints were filed after Saturday by trade unions and human rights organizations, demanding Netanyahu’s arrest if he visits Argentina. The same complaint alleges that Netanyahu committed ‘genocide and war crimes’ against the Palestinians (presented by the secretary general of ATE Buenos Aires, Daniel ‘Tano’ Catalano, and the representative of the H.I.J.O.S. group, Verónica Castelli).”
She added: “However, as far as Milei and the ruling party are concerned, nothing has happened. No media outlet, except for alternative ones, has reported on the large march. The only news that managed to break through the media blockade and name Israel as a murderer was the news of the six journalists who were killed on Sunday. This march has served to denounce the Zionist alliance that the government maintains and to continue raising awareness among our people.”
