Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich has called on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to instruct the Israeli military to dismantle 40 Palestinian memorials across the occupied West Bank within 24 hours, according to Israeli media reports.

Smotrich made the request in an official letter to Netanyahu following controversy surrounding the demolition of a memorial that Israeli authorities said commemorated a Palestinian responsible for attacks against Israelis.

According to Israel’s Channel 14, Smotrich said the removal of such memorials was necessary as part of efforts to assert what he described as “state sovereignty” and combat what he called “infrastructure of terrorism and incitement.”

Smotrich reportedly attached a list identifying 40 memorials across the West Bank that he said commemorate Palestinians involved in attacks or other activities against Israel.

He called on Netanyahu to order the Israeli military to remove all of the listed memorials within 24 hours.
