US forces continue to enforce a naval blockade against Iran in the Arabian Sea, US Central Command (CENTCOM) said Saturday, Anadolu reports.

“American forces continue to strictly enforce the ongoing naval blockade against Iran,” the command said in a post on the US social media platform X, alongside a photograph it said showed the guided-missile destroyer USS Donald Cook transiting the Arabian Sea while an MH-60S Sea Hawk helicopter operated nearby.

CENTCOM said that, as of Saturday, US forces had redirected five commercial vessels and disabled another.

Iran’s supreme leader accuses US of MoU breach, says Trump’s signature ‘worthless’

Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei on Saturday accused the US of repeatedly violating a memorandum of understanding signed by the presidents of the two countries, saying the alleged breaches showed that US President Donald Trump’s signature was “utterly worthless,” Anadolu reports.

“The repeated breaches of the agreement by the Great Satan [the US] regarding the MOU signed by the Presidents of Iran and the US have once again laid bare a fundamental truth: the signature of the US President is utterly worthless and devoid of credibility,” Khamenei said in a statement on the US social media company X.

“Coercion, totalitarianism, and brutality are inseparable components of the US creed and doctrine,” he added.

Khamenei warned that as the “American enemy is seeking to escalate the conflict thereby incurring even heavier costs and further humiliation,” it should know that the Iranian people and the “Resistance Front” have “unforgettable lessons” in store for it.

“One of the most fundamental imperatives at this juncture is upholding the sacred unity among all segments of the public and officials and protecting the dignity and independence of our beloved Iran, particularly in the face of the criminal and cunning US enemy,” he said.

“The valor of the Islamic fighters and the courage of the people in the southern regions in recent days are examples of the Iranian nation’s unforgettable lessons for the American enemy,” the supreme leader added.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian also called for national unity, writing on X: “Adherence to the requirements of sacred unity and avoidance of disagreement and division are the key to victory at this historic juncture.”

Earlier, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi said that Tehran has suspended its commitments to the MoU after “the US violated its commitments.”

Tensions have heightened in the Middle East, where the US and Iran continue to exchange attacks.

The military escalation comes despite a Pakistan-brokered memorandum of understanding signed in June to end the war and reach a lasting peace agreement.

North Sea oil and gas plans ‘won’t take a penny off our bills,’ campaigners warn as public consultation begins

Climate activists from Greenpeace and Uplift during a demonstration outside the Scottish Court of Session, Edinburgh, on the first day of the Rosebank and Jackdaw judicial review hearing, November 12, 2024

CONTROVERSIAL North Sea oil and gas plans “won’t take a penny off our bills” and instead increase “profits of a few,” campaigners warned as a public consultation opened into projects today.

Fossil fuel firm Adura claimed the Rosebank oil field and Jackdaw development would “deliver the greatest benefit for the UK.”

But campaigners and researchers with Uplift, which won the legal case against Rosebank in 2025, warned Brits not to fall for the plans which only serve to increase profits for energy firms.

Its executive director Tessa Khan said: “Rosebank won’t take a penny off our bills or meaningfully boost UK energy supplies — it’s overwhelmingly oil for export.

“But burning its oil would produce emissions equal to 70 per cent of the UK’s annual total, making it utterly incompatible with safe climate limits.

“Rosebank has nothing to do with the UK’s energy security and everything to do with increasing the profits of a few, already obscenely wealthy, oil companies.”

Save the Children clashes with Labour after accusing Starmer of ‘complicity’ in Gaza deaths

Government – which provides significant portion of charity’s funding – is understood to have demanded an explanation

The charity Save the Children has angered the government with a social media post marking Keir Starmer’s impending exit from Downing Street.

The organisation suggested on X that the outgoing prime minister was complicit in the deaths of thousands of civilians in the Israel-Gaza war.

On Tuesday, it posted a mocked up picture of a commemorative blue plaque, which read: “History will not forget complicity. Keir Starmer witnessed 73,000 Palestinians killed by Israeli forces, including 21,000 children, and kept supplying arms to Israel.”

Save the Children is part of a coalition of 17 humanitarian organisations who issued a joint statement on Wednesday calling on the incoming prime minister, Andy Burnham, to take “decisive action on Gaza and the occupied West Bank” when he takes office next week.

Among its central demands is the complete suspension of arms sales to Israel and the imposition of trade sanctions until alleged breaches of international law are brought to an end.

The group, which includes ActionAid and Amnesty International, also wants the government to publish its response to the International Court of Justice’s advisory opinion on aid provision in Gaza and set out a “clear timetable for implementing its recommendations”.
