With foreign media banned from Gaza, Palestinians themselves have reversed most of zionism’s century-long propaganda gains in just two years — this is why Israel has killed 270 journalists since October 2023, explains RAMZY BAROUD

THE killing of seven Palestinian journalists and media workers in Gaza on August 10 has prompted verbal condemnations, yet has inspired little to no substantive action. This has become the predictable and horrifying trajectory of the international community’s response to the ongoing Israeli genocide.

By eliminating Palestinian journalists like Anas al-Sharif and Mohammed Qraiqeh, Israel has made a sinister statement that the genocide will spare no-one. According to the monitoring website Shireen.ps, Israel has killed nearly 270 journalists since October 2023.

More journalists are likely to die covering the genocide of their own people in Gaza, especially since Israel has manufactured a convenient and easily deployed narrative that every Gazan journalist is simply a “terrorist.”

This is the same cruel logic offered by numerous Israeli officials in the past, including Israeli President Isaac Herzog, who declared that “an entire nation” in Gaza “is responsible” for not having rebelled against Hamas, effectively stating that there are no innocent people in Gaza.

This Israeli discourse, which dehumanises entire populations based on a vicious logic, is frequently repeated by officials who fear no accountability. Even Israeli diplomats, whose job in theory is to improve their country’s image internationally, frequently engage in this brutal ritual. In comments made in January 2024, Israeli ambassador to Britain, Tzipi Hotovely, callously argued that “every school, every mosque, every second house has access to tunnels,” implying that all of Gaza is a valid military target.

Five officers investigated following death of man in custody

FIVE officers are being investigated by the police watchdog following the death of a man in custody.

Ellis Rocks died in hospital on August 3 after being found unresponsive in custody two days earlier.

The 26-year-old had been arrested at 8.30pm at the Britannia Hotel in Standish, Wigan, on July 31.

Mr Rocks was handcuffed and searched before being transferred to custody, the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) watchdog said.

An ambulance was called by detention officers in the early hours the following day when he was seen to be unresponsive and lying on the floor.

Paramedics arrived, but he suffered a cardiac arrest on route to the hospital and was pronounced dead at 7.20am.

Two Greater Manchester Police officers are being investigated for potential gross misconduct, the IOPC said.

A further three are under investigation for potential breaches of police standards of professional behaviour at the level of misconduct.

BRITISH sales of Tesla electric vehicles continue to plummet following its billionaire owner Elon Musk’s involvement with Donald Trump’s presidency and far-right figures in Europe. 

Tesla’s new car sales dropped by nearly 60 per cent to just 987 cars in July, down from 2,462 a year ago, according to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT). 

The electric car company has slashed its monthly lease fee in Britain to boost weakening demand, offering discounts of up to 40 per cent to the country’s car leasing companies, citing a lack of storage space due to unsold Tesla vehicles in Britain.

ASYLUM-SEEKERS are to be removed from a hotel in Essex after the High Court today granted a “terrible concession” to racist protests organised by the far right.

Epping Forest District Council was granted a temporary injunction blocking migrants from being housed at the Bell Hotel in Epping after arguing that owner Somani Hotels Limited was in breach of planning rules.

The court heard that the site has been the centre of a series of protests in recent weeks after an asylum-seeker who was staying there was charged with sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl.

Mr Justice Eyre said that while the council had not “definitively established” that Somani Hotels had breached planning rules, “the strength of the claimant’s case is such that it weighs in favour” of granting the injunction.

His judgment added that the “risk of injustice is greater” if a temporary injunction was not granted.

Stand Up to Racism co-convener Sabby Dhalu said: “This is a terrible concession to racist protests organised by fascists. It will embolden the far right and encourage yet more protests to close down more hotels housing refugees. 

“People have the right to seek asylum. Britain takes a minority of the world’s refugees and those that come here must be able to live in peace and not be threatened with racist violence.”

Green Party councillor arrested at Palestine Action protest

A city councillor was among 13 people arrested during a protest supporting the banned group Palestine Action. 

Footage from the incident this weekend shows Amanda Fox, a Green Party councillor representing the Mancroft ward, being carried away by a group of about 10 officers on Saturday (August 16).

In the video, shared on social media, Ms Fox can be heard saying: “I oppose genocide, when a people is being slaughtered, it requires us to stand up against that. We cannot just stay silent.”

Ms Fox also said she was a “peaceful protestor, a Christian and a pacifist” while being searched by officers.
