Here are some articles from December 2008 which were reposted after the blog was mysteriously deleted in early December 2008. I’ve not abandoned this line of research and understand far more about it now. Comments are moderated to stop spam but you’re welcome to disagree.
I’ve just been advised that the old On a quiet day I can hear her breathing blog is to be discontinued at the end of the month. There are many unique, very angry posts there. If you’re a real big fan, mirror it before the end of the month. It was a free service with quite a few disadvantages like a limit of – I think that it was – 640k to each post and my blog getting deleted in December 2006 [8/5/11 edit: 2008]. That was never explained and I suspect that I must have seriously upset someone or other.
I’ve been hosted by fasthostingdirect.co.uk since January on their ‘No Limits’ package.
The advantages of this package are that it’s ridiculously cheap at £20 for 2 years hosting, unlimited bandwidth, seems fairly quick and with a good terms of service. The terms of service are attractive to me because they don’t prohibit abusive and insulting content as most ISPs do. I also pay an extra seven or eight pounds a year to hide my details in DNS lookups.
The disadvantages of this package are that WordPress features are not properly implemented and poor support.
I’ve had problems with WordPress’s RSS support and the timed publishing of articles. While these are known historical WordPress bugs, fasthostingdirect should have them working out of the box. They will be not working on all fasthostingdirect’s WordPress clients not just me.
I only have email support on the No Limits package which takes a good few hours to be answered. I’ve found that it’s not real support – I was referred to a not particularly relevant or helpful webpage when I contacted them on the timed publishing of WordPress articles. Like I mentioned earlier, this issue is likely to affect all fasthostingdirect’s WordPress clients. It should be resolved by them.
1 July 2013 update: Support is very poor. Although advertised as 24/7 it is email support only usually taking at least 8 hours to get a reply. My latest support request took 35 hours. I had resolved the issue myself by then and the advice from support which was received eventually was absolutely useless.
It’s very cheap and you don’t get what you don’t pay for. I’ll be looking for a provider with better, more responsive support if I have the money come renewal time. That’s assuming that I have something to say.
I’ve got a little distracted here. I did intend to anounce some coming soon exclsive content about a flea or two in my head. Anyway you’ve ended up with some Cerys and Catatonia and two different verions of Hallelujah. I was looking for a version of Hallelujah by Cerys. I hope that perhaps she’ll do one.

While I am very proud of my Welsh origin, culture and traditions, I have respect for others and appreciate and embrace divesity.
The trade Union Congress (TUC)’s ‘March for an Alternative’ protest march and rally event took place on Saturday (26 March 2011). The purpose of the event was to demonstrate opposition to public spending cuts imposed by the UK’s Con-Dem – Conservative and Liberal Democrat – coalition government. The event attracted a huge attendence with estimates of 500,000 marchers.
Many acts of political violence by marginal groups occured in the West End area of London while the march and rally were happening. Many of the politically violent attacks were directed at banks and tax-avoiding companies. Other targets such as the Ritz Hotel and Porsche dealerships were presumably attacked due to their in-your-face class symbolism and association with the ultra-rich elite.
The politically violent attacks were largely attributed to Anarchists and associated Anti-Capitalists. The media generally and correctly reported that the vast majority of participants were not involved, associated or supported the politically violent events.
However, it appears that the police have arrested the wrong people for the wrong reasons. I was surprised to see such acts of political violence without police intervention. 149 of the 201 arrests were of non-violent demonstrators associated with the UK Uncut organisation that had been occupying Fortnum & Mason’s store on Piccadilly.
The vast majority of the Fortnum & Mason’s arrestees have been charged with aggrevated trespass. Fortnum & Mason’s is a shop which means that there is an implied invitation to attend. For the aggrevated trespass charge to stand it will be necessary to show that the demonstrators were asked to leave and refused. The trouble is that they did leave when asked by the police only to be arrested.
That UK Uncut’s protestors were arrested and charged while so few violent protestors were arrested and charged poses some interesting issues. The point is that those obviously engaged in violent attacks – granted on property rather than people – with police present should expect to be arrested and charged but this hasn’t happened. Instead those that were not involved in obvious acts of violence have been arrested and charged. I wonder if we are able to speculate – and reach some conclusions – why that is?
UK Uncut have established themselves as an effective political campaigning organisation. They have organised many effective actions against tax-dodging companies. Alternatively, political violence against property is hugely counter-productive and achieves little other than the appearance of thuggery.
Do you think that UK Uncut’s success as a political campaign group might have contributed to them getting arrested and conflated with violent thuggery?
