Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir warned on Monday that his far-right Otzma Yehudit party will suspend support for all coalition legislation unless Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government advances a bill imposing the death penalty on Palestinian prisoners within the next three weeks.

Speaking during a meeting of his party’s Knesset faction, Ben-Gvir accused Netanyahu’s Likud party of violating the coalition agreement, which, he claimed, included a commitment to pass a death penalty law during the current Knesset term.“If the death penalty law is not brought to a vote within three weeks, Otzma Yehudit will not participate in votes on coalition bills,” Ben-Gvir declared. He criticised the government for what he called a series of “excuses” to delay the legislation—first before the war, and later during it. “After the war began, they said the law might endanger the kidnapped soldiers,” Ben-Gvir said. “But now, with the return of the living captives, that excuse is no longer valid.”

Ben-Gvir argued that enacting the death penalty would serve as “a significant lever of pressure on Hamas” and should be part of Israel’s “toolbox” in its war on the group. The minister also renewed calls for an escalation in the military campaign, saying Israel should move from limited strikes to full-scale operations.

“We are not in another round of fighting but in a war of revival,” he said. “The goal is not to exact a price from Hamas—it is to annihilate it. The time has come for renewed, intense fighting until that goal is achieved.”

The ultimatum highlights growing tensions within Israel’s ruling coalition, as far-right ministers push for harsher measures against Palestinians while Netanyahu faces both domestic and international pressure over the conduct of the war in Gaza.

Westminster attack on press freedom condemned by journalists and MPs

Campaign comes after officials blocked Declassified from holding a press pass, citing our Gaza ‘standpoint’.

More than 100 politicians, journalists and campaigners have condemned a “flagrant and partisan attempt to suppress investigative journalism” by parliament.

It comes after officials blocked Declassified from holding a press pass, citing the “particular standpoint” of our investigations.

They even flagged a recent article about the risk of pro-Israel bias in Westminster.

Now, an open letter calls on authorities to urgently review this decision and issue Declassified with a press pass.

The open letter has also been signed by more than 5,800 Declassified readers and supporters, and was hand-delivered to Westminster officials this afternoon.

Parliament has issued passes to almost 500 journalists, providing access to the corridors of power in Westminster. They include many from right-wing outlets like Guido Fawkes and GB News.

When Declassified’s application for a pass was first rejected, officials claimed it was due to capacity “limitations within the Parliamentary estate”.

But documents released under the Freedom of Information Act revealed there was no limit to the number of press passes that can be issued – and capacity was not even discussed as a consideration.

Instead, they cited the “standpoint” of our foreign policy investigations – and bizarrely even claimed that foreign policy does not count as “politics”.

A military agreement Britain and Israel signed in 2020 has not been modified despite Israel’s attacks on Gaza, the Ministry of Defence admits.

In December 2020, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) tweeted that it had signed a military agreement with the UK.

It said British and Israeli military chiefs had agreed to “formalise and enhance the defence partnership and support the growing Israel-UK partnership.”

In Britain, the government gave the new agreement no publicity. Months passed in silence, with no press release or mention by the Ministry of Defence, together with no noticeable interest from the national media.

The silence was broken in May 2021 when Kenny MacAskill MP questioned the government in parliament, requesting it to publish the accord.

But Conservative defence minister James Heappey said the agreement was “being kept at a higher security classification and therefore it will not be made public”.

Heappey said the accord “strengthens the defence relationship between Britain and Israel” and was “an important piece of defence diplomacy”.

Now, a response by the MoD to a freedom of information request states that “no amendments or modifications to this agreement exist”, confirming it is still active.

The admission is significant, showing that UK ministers have been content to keep a military accord alive with a state engaged in genocide.

Canadian PM: We will arrest Netanyahu if he arrives in our country

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney confirmed on Monday that he would uphold the decision of his predecessor, Justin Trudeau, to enforce the International Criminal Court’s (ICC) arrest warrant against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, should he enter Canadian territory.

In a brief press statement, Carney said his government “respects international law and the principle of accountability,” stressing that Canada “will treat the ICC’s warrant as it does any binding international judicial order.”

He added that his country would carry out the arrest if Netanyahu enters Canada, in fulfilment of its international obligations.

The International Criminal Court in The Hague had earlier issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defence Minister Yoav Gallant on charges of committing war crimes and crimes against humanity during the recent war in Gaza.

Canada is one of the signatories to the Rome Statute, which established the ICC, and is therefore legally required to execute arrest warrants issued by the court.

As public anger in the United States toward Israel continues to grow after more than two years of the war in Gaza, an internal poll has found that support from pro-Israel lobbying groups has become a burden for Democratic candidates seeking to win their primary elections.

The survey, conducted by Upswing Strategies—a polling firm specialising in Democratic Party research—questioned 850 Democratic voters in Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota, and Pennsylvania. These states include some of the most competitive primary races expected in the 2026 elections.

The poll examined voters’ views on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and on pro-Israel lobbying groups, most notably the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC).

Results showed that around 48 per cent of respondents said they would “never support” any candidate who receives funding from AIPAC or other pro-Israel lobbying organisations, while 28 per cent expressed this stance firmly without hesitation.
