“What would the reaction would be if an Arab state wrote this about synagogues and Jews?” asked one critic.

Israel faced backlash this week after its Arabic-language account on the social media site X published a message warning Europeans to take action against the proliferation of mosques and “remove” Muslims from their countries.

“In the year 1980, there were only fewer than a hundred mosques in Europe. As for today, there are more than 20,000 mosques. This is the true face of colonization,” posted Israel, a settler-colonial state whose nearly 2 million Muslim citizens face widespread discrimination, and where Palestinians in the illegally occupied territories live under an apartheid regime.

“This is what is happening while Europe is oblivious and does not care about the danger,” the post continues. “And the danger does not lie in the existence of mosques in and of themselves, for freedom of worship is one of the basic human rights, and every person has the right to believe and worship his Lord.”

“The problem lies in the contents that are taught in some of these mosques, and they are not limited to piety and good deeds, but rather focus on encouraging escalating violence in the streets of Europe, and spreading hatred for the other and even for those who host them in their countries, and inciting against them instead of teaching love, harmony, and peace,” Israel added. “Europe must wake up and remove this fifth column.”

Referring to the far-right Alternative for Germany party, Berlin-based journalist James Jackson replied on X that “even the AfD don’t tweet, ‘Europe must wake up and remove this fifth column’ over a map of mosques.”

Other social media users called Israel’s post “racist” and “Islamophobic,” while some highlighted the stark contrast between the way Palestinians and Israelis treat Christian people and institutions.

Others noted that some of the map’s fearmongering figures misleadingly showing a large number of mosques indicate countries whose populations are predominantly or significantly Muslim.

“Russia has 8,000 mosques? Who would’ve known a country with millions of Muslim Central Asians and Caucasians would need so many!” said one X user.

Israel’s post came amid growing international outrage over its 691-day assault and siege on Gaza, which has left more than 230,000 Palestinians dead, maimed, or missing and hundreds of thousands more starving and facing ethnic cleansing as Operation Gideon’s Chariots 2—a campaign to conquer, occupy, and “cleanse” the strip—ramps up amid a growing engineered famine that has already killed hundreds of people.

Israel is facing an ongoing genocide case at the International Court of Justice, while Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Yoav Gallant, his former defense minister, are fugitives form the International Criminal Court, where they are wanted for alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity including murder and forced starvation.

European nations including Belgium, Ireland, and Spain are supporting the South Africa-led ICJ genocide case against Israel. Since October 2023, European countries including Belgium, France, Malta, Portugal, Slovenia, the United KingdomIreland, Norway, and Spain have either formally recognized Palestinian statehood or announced their intention to do so.

Zarah Sultana made a surprise appearance on the main stage at Forwards, delivering a passionate speech to the crowd before introducing Nia Archives.

The MP for Coventry South resigned from the Labour Party in July in order to co-found a new grassroots party with fellow independent MPs including former Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn.

Earlier on Sunday, Sultana had taken part in a panel discussion called The Movement Forward: Pissed off with Politics on the Information Stage at the festival on the Downs.

On the main stage, Sultana said: “A lot of people are fed up. I am too. Fed up with being told that this is just how things are. Fed up with being asked to settle for less. Fed up with the idea that the best we can do is manage decline, implement austerity, blame migrants, Muslims and trans people, enable genocide in Gaza, and have fascism growling at the door.

“But here’s the truth: politics is not only what happens in parliament or on the news. Politics is us. It’s here. It’s all of you.

“It’s people deciding they won’t accept the world as it is. It’s people daring to imagine the world as it should be.

“Every great change we’ve ever seen, from rights at work, to votes for women, to the NHS didn’t come from the top down.

“It came because ordinary people stood up and said: we aren’t going to take this anymore.

“And when people come together with that conviction, something powerful happens: hope.

“Not the shallow kind that tells us to just wait and see, but the deep kind that comes when we believe we can build something new, and we start doing it.”

Qatar has strongly condemned the storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque by the Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir under the protection of occupation forces.

In a statement issued yesterday, the Qatari Foreign Ministry stated that repeated attempts to undermine the religious and historical status of Al-Aqsa Mosque are not only an attack on Palestinians but also on over two billion Muslims worldwide.

It also warned about the continuation of the aggressive policies adopted by the Israeli government in the occupied Palestinian territories, highlighting their impact on increasing violence in the region and undermining efforts for a two-state solution and achieving a comprehensive, just and sustainable peace.

Qatar reaffirmed its steadfast position on justice for the Palestinian cause and the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, including their full right to practice their religious rituals without restrictions and to establish their independent state based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Earlier yesterday, extremist minister, Itamar Ben-Gvir, stormed Al-Aqsa Mosque with a group of settlers. They were heavily guarded by occupation police. This is thought to be part of his efforts to mark the Jewish holiday of Hanukkah.

Israelis as the Neo-Fascists :: Part1

Fascism is a difficult concept for many Arabic speakers or Muslims. The point about Fascism for them is that they were opposed to the Jews and therefore many Arabic speakers or Muslims might even find Fascism attractive. And who can blame them the way Israel is behaving and has behaved since WW2?: Denial of human rights, war crimes, genocide while nobody holds them to account for their excessive murders.

What I’m suggesting is that Israelis are the new Fascists.

Fascists were about the denial of democracy and doing all the things that the Israelis are doing now. The crimes that the Israelis are accused of are crimes from WW2 that were created in an attempt to ensure that such behaviour would never happen again. And yet here it is that the Israelis are committing these crimes.

The Jews to the German Nazi Fascists of WW2 were regarded as less than human and so they did not need to be afforded human rights. We see that this is the same today with Israelis and Palestinians.

Supporters of Israel’s Gaza genocide should be regarded as aiding and abetting genocide. What else can they possibly be?

Many of our grandparents and further back ancestors fought the Nazi Fascists of WW2 for a better world. In their memory, we should not permit this Fascism to exist.

Gove’s ‘anti-extremism’ drive puts democracy at risk, campaigners warn

Communities secretary, Michael Gove, February 11, 2024

DEMOCRACY is under threat, campaigners warned today as the Tories launched a new “anti-extremism” drive aimed mainly against Muslims.

Communities Secretary Michael Gove named three Muslim organisations in the Commons as he unveiled the government’s new definition of extremism, apparently responding to the mass movement of solidarity with the Palestinian people that has mushroomed over the last five months.

One of the organisations named by Mr Gove, the Muslim Association of Britain, has been part of the coalition of five groups organising the national demonstrations.

The others singled out by the Tories are Mend and Cage. For show, two obscure far-right groups, British National Socialist Movement and Patriotic Alternative, were also identified.

The five pro-Palestinian campaigns, which include Stop the War and Palestine Solidarity, said in a statement that the “redefinition of extremism is in reality an assault on core democratic freedoms, seeking to silence dissenting voices.”

Stressing “the fundamental right to legitimately campaign to change government policy,” the joint statement added that “the marches have been overwhelmingly peaceful and attended by a broad cross-section of British society.
