US President Donald Trump on Sunday criticized an Israeli attack on Beirut, asserting that the strike should not have occurred while Washington is on the verge of a peace agreement with Iran, Anadolu reports.

“This morning’s attack on Beirut should not have happened, particularly on a special day when we are so close to a peace deal,” Trump wrote on his social media platform Truth Social.

He argued that the incident Israel was responding to was “small and meaningless,” resulting in no casualties, and urged all parties to “stand down” to avoid disrupting the diplomatic process.

“We are very close to a deal that will bring peace to the region, including to Lebanon,” he said, calling for an immediate halt to all Israeli attacks in Lebanon, as well as a cessation of strikes by Hezbollah.

“This could be the beginning of a long and beautiful peace — Let’s not blow it,” added Trump.

Earlier, Axios, citing Israeli and US officials, claimed Israel had informed US Central Command before the Beirut attack.

Trump on Saturday said that a deal with Iran is scheduled to be signed on Sunday, even as Tehran disputed the timeline. Sources in Tehran told the Fars News Agency that the proposed memorandum of understanding remains “under consideration” and no final decision has been announced.

Meanwhile, Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf, speaker of Iran’s parliament, accused Washington on Sunday of lacking the “will or ability” to meet its obligations, citing continued Israeli strikes in Lebanon.

While Iran has called for ending the war on all fronts including Lebanon, release of its frozen assets and end of the US blockade of its ports; the US is demanding that Tehran halt its nuclear program and fully reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

US President Donald Trump on Friday said the US can open the Strait of Hormuz, as well as “take the oil and make a fortune,” noting that the move would be a “gusher” for the world, Anadolu reports.

“With a little more time, we can easily OPEN THE HORMUZ STRAIT, TAKE THE OIL, & MAKE A FORTUNE. IT WOULD BE A “GUSHER” FOR THE WORLD???” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.

The Strait of Hormuz, through which around 20% of global oil supplies transit, has been disrupted since the US and Israel launched a joint offensive on Iran.

US President Donald Trump has sent mixed signals on Washington’s plans for the waterway.

The region has been on alert since the US and Israel launched an air offensive on Feb. 28, killing more than 1,340 people so far, including then-Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.

Iran has retaliated with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel along with Jordan, Iraq and Gulf countries hosting US military assets, causing casualties and damage to infrastructure while disrupting global energy markets.

Trump claims Iran’s ‘new regime’ president asked US for ceasefire

US President Donald Trump claimed Wednesday that Iran’s new leadership had asked Washington for a ceasefire, saying the US would consider the request only if the Strait of Hormuz is reopened, Anadolu reports.

“Iran’s new regime president, much less radicalized and far more intelligent than his predecessors, has just asked the United States of America for a ceasefire,” Trump wrote on his social media platform Truth Social.

Washington would consider the request only when the strait is “open, free, and clear,” he said, warning it would continue striking Iran “into oblivion or, as they say, back to the stone ages” in the meantime.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei rejected Trump’s claim, saying Tehran asking for a ceasefire does not reflect reality.

Axios, citing three US officials, reported that discussions are underway about a ceasefire in exchange for the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.

Officials said Trump was actively discussing the possibility with figures inside and outside his administration, but cautioned that it remained unclear whether a deal could be reached. Sources did not specify whether the discussions were taking place directly with Iran or through mediators such as Pakistan.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi previously said contacts with the US do not constitute negotiations, but are limited to the exchange of messages — directly or through regional intermediaries.

Trump has repeatedly described Iran’s new leadership as “much more reasonable” than its predecessors, telling NBC News earlier this week that the war was “coming to an end” and that the US had achieved “total regime change.” He also said Washington was in contact with Iranian parliamentary speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf.

The Strait of Hormuz, through which roughly 20 million barrels of oil pass daily, has been effectively disrupted since early March, driving up global oil prices and raising fears of prolonged economic damage.

The US and Israel have struck Iran since Feb. 28, killing more than 1,340 people, including then-Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. Iran has retaliated with strikes across the region, causing casualties and infrastructure damage.

US President Donald Trump on Monday said negotiations with Iran to end joint US-Israeli strikes were progressing, but warned that the country’s crucial energy infrastructure would be destroyed if talks do not soon bear fruit, Anadolu reports.

“If for any reason a deal is not shortly reached, which it probably will be, and if the Hormuz Strait is not immediately ‘Open for Business,’ we will conclude our lovely ‘stay’ in Iran by blowing up and completely obliterating all of their Electric Generating Plants, Oil Wells and Kharg Island (and possibly all desalinization plants!),” Trump posted on his social media platform Truth Social.

Despite the warning, he said “serious discussions” were ongoing with a “new and more reasonable” Iranian regime.

Trump later told Bloomberg that Iran wants “to settle,” suggesting the war is going “unbelievably well.”

Iran said Monday it has held no direct negotiations with the US, saying recent contacts were limited to messages conveyed through intermediaries. Regional countries have sought to broker an agreement between the sides, with Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar signaling Islamabad would be willing to host talks.

On Sunday, Trump had encouraged diplomatic efforts, with intermediaries including Pakistan, Turkiye, and Egypt involved in indirect contacts between Washington and Tehran. He said indirect talks via Pakistani “emissaries” were progressing, adding: “A deal could be made fairly quickly.”

Many senior Iranian officials are among the 1,340 people killed in the air offensive the US and Israel launched against Iran on Feb. 28, including then-Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Tehran has retaliated with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf countries hosting US military assets, causing casualties and infrastructure damage while disrupting global markets and aviation.

‘Sick, Malicious Lie’: Trump Caught Pushing ‘Alternate Reality’ Version of Minneapolis ICE Shooting

“The right-wing bullshit machine is operating at full steam and across all cylinders today,” said one critic.

President Donald Trump on Wednesday posted an account of the deadly shooting in Minneapolis by a federal immigration officer that was completely at odds with all evidence seen so far.

In a post on Truth Social, the president claimed that the woman killed in her car by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer “violently, willfully, and viciously ran over” him, forcing him to fire his weapon at her in self-defense.

Trump further claimed that it “is hard to believe” that the ICE officer “is alive” after being supposedly run over.

Eyewitness videos taken at the scene of the incident, however, do not show the officer getting run over at all. In fact, the officer can be seen walking around after discharging his weapon, with no signs of any injury.

In fact, the video Trump posted on his Truth Social that he claims shows the officer being run over does not at all show the officer being run over, but rather stepping safely out of the way as the car starts moving forward.

The New Republic‘s Greg Sargent carefully examined the video posted by Trump and concluded that it “demonstrates nothing close to what” the president claimed it showed.

“This is a sick, malicious lie from Trump,” Sargent commented.

Reporter Sam Stein of the Bulwark also provided a swift debunking of Trump’s claims.

“Hard to believe the ICE officer is still alive, writes the president,” Stein wrote on X, “of an ICE officer who was not hit at all and was well enough to go run down the street to check on the woman he had killed.”

John Hopkins University economist Filipe Campante was struck by just how little effort the president feels he needs to exert to make his lies convincing.

“That he chooses the ‘me or your lying eyes?’ approach, in the full knowledge that there are multiple videos out there, is a striking commentary on the nature of propaganda in the modern information environment,” Campante wrote on Bluesky. “Censorship is no longer viable, so the approach is to use your own content provision to drown out any negative facts/evidence.”

Tour guide and author Ben Edwards marveled at the president’s ability to make completely fact-free assertions.

“The country is slowly starting to come apart,” Edwards observed. “Trump lives in an alternate reality. He cannot speak a word of truth.”

Disinformation researcher Kate Starbird warned that Trump’s low-effort propaganda was still likely to prove effective with his followers.

“The right-wing bullshit machine is operating at full steam and across all cylinders today,” Starbird wrote, “strategically framing the horrific ICE killing of a Minnesota woman to defend/bolster their political aims. For example, Trump’s message… will shape how his supporters (willfully mis)interpret the video evidence.”
