Sumaya Jawabra [X]

A Palestinian journalist in the northern occupied West Bank has entered her second year under house arrest, after an Israeli military court confined her to her home over writings documenting Palestinian suffering under Israel’s brutal occupation.

Sumaya Jawabra, whose work has long focused on conveying the Palestinian narrative, has been barred from leaving her home for more than two years. The ruling has effectively silenced her journalism and restricted her communication with the outside world.

Her husband and fellow journalist, Tariq al-Sarkaji, said the Israeli occupation authorities have imposed sweeping restrictions on her movement and communication. “Sumaya has not stepped outside for two years. The house has become a prison,” he told reporters, noting that she is even prohibited from stepping into the yard or accompanying her children to medical appointments.

Al-Sarkaji added that the window of their home has become her only link to the outside world. “Her dreams have become very simple. She says the first thing she wants after her release is just to go to the market,” he said.

He stressed that the conditions of her confinement have deprived her of basic rights, including visiting family members and sharing ordinary daily activities with her children.

Journalist groups and human rights organisations say the case exemplifies Israel’s expanding restrictions on Palestinian media and freedom of expression in the occupied West Bank.

ISRAEL has broken the Gaza truce nearly 500 times in 44 days, killing hundreds, according to Palestinians.

The Gaza government Media Office said today that Israel must be held fully responsible for the humanitarian and security implications for its repeated ceasefire violations.

The Palestinians said that the Israelis have broken the so-called ceasefire 497 times since it came into force on October 10, killing 342 people, with children, women and the elderly accounting for the majority of the victims.

The Gaza Media Office said: “We condemn in the strongest terms the continued serious and systematic violations of the ceasefire agreement by the Israeli occupation authorities.

“These violations constitute a flagrant breach of international humanitarian law and the humanitarian protocol attached to the agreement.”

The Israelis continued their attacks over the weekend, with at least 24 Palestinians killed and another 54 wounded by Israeli forces on Saturday.

Chancellor must scrap the two-child cap ‘in full’, TUC warns

Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves speaks to the media about the October inflation statistics from the Office of National Statistics, during a visit to a Tesco supermarket in Earl’s Court, west London, November 19, 2025

CHANCELLOR Rachel Reeves must scrap the two-child cap “in full” at the Budget as seven in 10 of the 4.5 million children living in poverty in Britain have at least one working parent, the TUC has warned.

The union body called on Labour to ditch Tory cruelty on Wednesday, with its analysis published today revealing that working people are just £12 a week better off in real terms than they were when the financial crisis hit in 2008.

Public service workers, meanwhile, are no better off compared to 2008, with real pay the same.

TUC general secretary Paul Nowak said the Chancellor must tackle the child poverty emergency by delivering a “living standards Budget.”

He said: “Households up and down the country are still suffering a painful Tory pay hangover — leaving this Labour government with lots of ground to make up.

“That’s why Wednesday is a crucial moment to show ministers are on the side of working people by making affordability a top priority.

“That means a clear plan to bring down energy bills for households. It means action to make work pay by showing ambition on the minimum wage.

“And it means tackling the child poverty emergency by scrapping the two-child benefit cap in full.”

Polling by the TUC also reveals 83 per cent of the public believe no child should be living in poverty in Britain.

People take part in a protest against Tunisian president Kais Saied’s rule and demanding the release of political prisoners in Tunis, Tunisia, November 22, 2025

TUNISIANS took to the streets of central Tunis on Saturday over President Kais Saied’s increasingly authoritarian rule and demanded the release of all political prisoners.

The Against Injustice rally brought together families of political detainees and activists from different ideological backgrounds.

The demonstration drew more than 1,000 protesters chanting anti-regime slogans, including: “No fear no terror, the street belongs to the people.”

The protest came as part of a broader surge in protests nationwide over political and economic turmoil.

Protesters also called out President Saied’s interference in the judiciary and accused him of using the police to target political opponents.

Leaders adopt a declaration at G20 summit despite US opposition

Banners of various G20 leaders are displayed along a Johannesburg freeway, in Johannesburg, South Africa, November 20, 2025

WORLD leaders from the Group of 20 rich and developing economies broke with tradition and adopted a declaration at the start of their summit in South Africa on Saturday despite opposition from the United States.

The US is boycotting the two-day talks in a diplomatic rift with the host country and had put pressure on South Africa not to adopt a leaders’ declaration in the absence of a US delegation, South African officials said.

Vincent Magwenya, the spokesperson for South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, said that a leaders’ declaration was adopted unanimously by the other members at the start of the talks in Johannesburg.

Declarations are usually adopted at the end of G20 summits.

The 122-point declaration urged more global action on issues that specifically affect poor countries, like climate-related disasters and sovereign debt levels, and was promoted by the hosts as a victory for the first G20 summit to be held in Africa.

While President Ramaphosa’s spokesperson said the declaration was unanimous, Argentina said it did not endorse it.
