ACTIVISTS gathered outside Kensington Olympia today as delegates arrived for the first day of the far-right Alliance for Responsible Citizenship conference.

Organised by Fossil Free London and joined by more than 10 campaign groups, including Greenpeace and Queers for Palestine, protesters dressed in frog costumes and carried signs reading “Fossil Fuels Fund Fascism” and “Oily Fascists Out of London.”

The conference is primarily backed by hedge fund manager Paul Marshall, whose portfolio includes more than £1.8 billion in fossil fuel companies.

More than 4,000 people from 96 countries were expected to attend, with speakers including Reform UK’s Nigel Farage and James Orr, anti-trans and anti-abortion campaigners, as well as about 40 MPs.

The protest came as rare red weather warnings for extreme heat were issued across Britain.

Fossil Free London director Robin Wells said: “Their oily money is fuelling the extreme heat we’re sweating through, and we’re left poorer than ever whilst they profiteer from war and crisis.

“But we refuse to tolerate their hate, and we are building our alternative: strong, connected and resilient communities, a more equal society, and climate action to protect us all.”

Climate groups stage protest outside Equinor HQ

CLIMATE activists staged an “oil spill” protest outside an energy firm’s headquarters set to start extraction in Britain’s largest untapped oil field.

Posting its yearly profits on Wednesday, Equinor announced billions of pounds in income in the last quarter of 2025, explained by its CEO Anders Opedal as a result of “new fields on stream” and “record-high production.”

The government is set to publish its decision over allowing the new project in the Rosebank fields.

Fossil Free London director Robin Wells said: “Equinor are getting filthy rich from filthy fossil fuels, whilst the UK public foots the bill. And it’s never been more of a rip-off.

“As Equinor drives Rosebank forward, they’ve newly buddied up with Shell in a new North Sea venture to dodge £1.3 billion in tax.

“The UK government must not back Big Oil’s Big Money and support climate denial. They must back people’s survival, and stop this carbon bomb. They must stop Rosebank.”

UK Government urged to ‘do the right thing’ and reject Rosebank development

Equinor, which owns the majority of the oil field, stressed it was committed to advancing the ‘Rosebank project’

Climate campaigners have challenged the UK Government to “do the right thing” and turn down plans for drilling in the Rosebank oil field.

The group Uplift – which wants to see a “rapid and fair transition away from oil and gas production in the UK” – said whether the green light is granted for the development would be the “defining test of this Government’s credibility on climate change”.

It came as it was confirmed Equinor, which owns an 80% majority stake in the oil field, confirmed it has submitted a scope 3 assessment – setting out all associated greenhouse gas emissions for the project, in compliance with new guidelines from UK authorities.

And the company said it is “fully committed” to working with all relevant bodies to “advance the Rosebank project”.

The Rosebank field, which is located some 80 miles west of Shetland, is the UK’s largest untapped oil field and is estimated to contain up to 300 million barrels of oil.

Robin Wells, director of Fossil Free London, said: “In the face of this decision on the biggest undeveloped oil field in the North Sea, we must be crystal clear. Rosebank will be the defining test of this Government’s climate promise.”

‘A stain on our collective consciousness’

CLIMATE activists unfurled a banner calling US President Donald Trump a war criminal in the grounds of Windsor Castle ahead of a series of protests during his three-day state visit to Britain starting on Tuesday.

The sign showed a picture of President Trump with the words “Climate criminal. War criminal. The only place he’s welcome is The Hague.”

Campaigners from Fossil Free London chanted: “Climate criminal, war criminal, Trump’s not welcome here” as they drew attention to the “wannabe dictator’s” climate and foreign policy record today.

His second state visit to Britain has sparked calls for a large demonstration in London tomorrow, 2pm at Portland Place, organised by the Stop Trump Coalition.

Fossil Free London director Robin Wells said: “Genocide is unfolding. Seen on our phones through the faces of thousands of screaming children. Floods and fires across Europe get closer each day to our own front doors. But Trump claps and cheers for more.

PROTESTERS descended on Westminster today to demand that the government stop using taxpayers’ money to bankroll the destruction of forests.

More than 100 environmental activists from groups including Axe Drax, Fossil Free London and Greenpeace gathered outside the Department of Energy Security and Net Zero, calling for an end to the vast subsidies granted to the Drax biomass power plant.

The North Yorkshire plant is Britain’s largest carbon emitter, yet receives almost £1.5 million a day for burning biomass wood chips, a fuel source that Drax claims is “carbon neutral.”

As part of the action, a choir celebrated Christmas trees in song and handed out origami trees to civil servants entering the building.

Four people dressed as tree-like creatures representing the millions of trees burned by Drax presented the department with a Greenpeace petition, bearing the signatures of over 120,000 people, calling for an end to the subsidies.

The power plant burned six million tonnes of wood pellets last year, equivalent to about half a billion Christmas trees.

In February, a BBC Panorama investigation revealed that Drax had continued to burn wood from rare primary forests in Canada, after the programme first made the discovery two years ago.

The plant was then forced to pay £25 million to Ofgem for failing to provide adequate data on the type of wood it sources.
