THE Scottish Greens called today for a year of climate action, starting with the rejection of Rosebank oil field project.

Net Zero spokesman Patrick Harvie urged both the Scottish and Westminster governments to reject the plans for further oil and gas extraction from the North Sea, instead committing to reaching their net zero targets.

The Labour government has not ruled out production from the Rosebank oil field, and all new exploration, despite numerous warnings from experts that the cost to our climate would be catastrophic.

Mr Harvie said: “We are trapped in a deepening climate crisis, and drilling for new oil and gas will do nothing but worsen the conditions and put unnecessary pressure on our climate already at breaking point.

“There is no going back and starting again. There is no planet B for us to go and live on.

“People cannot afford the rising costs of energy bills that are being made worse by maintaining a link between the cost of gas and electricity.”

Kneecap’s Liam Og O hAnnaidh, aka Mo Chara, speaks to supporters outside Woolwich Crown Court, London, September 26, 2025

IRISH rappers Kneecap have said that they will “not be silent” ahead of a further legal challenge over a British court’s decision to throw out the terrorism case against Liam Og O hAnnaidh.

Mr O hAnnaidh, aka Mo Chara, was accused of displaying a flag in support of proscribed terrorist organisation Hezbollah at a gig in November 2024, until a technical error in the way he was charged led to the chief magistrate ruling he could not try the case.

The rap trio said in a post on social media on Thursday morning that the British government has issued them with a notice that it intends to appeal against the court’s decision.

Last year, the Crown Prosecution Service said it would be appealing against the decision because “we believe there is an important point of law which needs to be clarified.”

Experiencing issues with this image not appearing. I suspect because it's so critical of Zionist Keir Starmer's support of and complicity in Israel's genocides.

Entrepreneur Michelle Mone is admiited to the House of Lords as Baroness Mone of Mayfair, after being made a Tory peer, October 2015

A FORMER Conservative peer under investigation for her alleged role in a £148 million Covid equipment scandal was allowed to continue collecting an estimated £15,000 a week in rent.

A court amended a previous order to freeze £75m of British assets belonging to Baroness Michelle Mone and her husband after one of his companies received £122m in government contracts for unsuitable medical gowns.

Baroness Mone and Doug Barrowman will now be allowed to keep the estimated £15,000-a-week in rent from a £25m mansion in Belgravia, central London, as the inquiry continues.

The National Crime Agency opened an investigation into the Covid-era deal, which supplied 25 million defective surgical gowns to the government, which Mr Barrowman’s firm imported from China.

A court first ordered the couple’s assets to be frozen two years ago, while the NCA looked into the deal with PPE Medpro.

United States bombs Venezuela overnight – Caracas calls for full popular mobilisation to resist feared invasion

A civilian runs from the sound of explosions in Caracas overnight

THE United States bombed Venezuela overnight, with explosions rocking the capital Caracas and targets in the states of Miranda, Aragua and La Guaira.

The Venezuelan government ordered “all national defence plans to be implemented” and called for the people of the country to mobilise to fend off a “colonial war” aiming at regime change, in co-ordination with the “fascist oligarchy” that has always sought to reverse the Bolivarian revolution. Given the explicit threats of an attack from the US in recent months, Venezuela has distributed arms to popular militias around the country.

The Pentagon and White House have been tight-lipped about the attacks, with the main confirmation simply a Federal Aviation Authority warning to commercial aircraft to steer clear of the Latin American country because of “military activity.” Reports aired by some US broadcasters that US President Donald Trump has ordered a land invasion have not been confirmed.

“The whole ground shook… this is horrible,” Carmen Hidalgo, a 21-year-old office worker, her voice trembling, told the Associated Press. She was walking briskly with two relatives, returning from a birthday party. “We felt like the air was hitting us.”

Mr Trump has built up a huge armada off Venezuela’s coast and carried out a lethal campaign of bombings against boats in the Caribbean, accusing them without evidence of smuggling drugs. Officially the US accuses the government of President Nicolas Maduro of being involved in drug-smuggling too, but in online rants the US leader has revealed his real aim is to restore US corporate control of the country’s oil reserves, the largest proven reserves on Earth. The US boarded and stole two oil tankers carrying Venezuelan crude last month.

A recent National Security Strategy published by the White House called on the United States to reassert the Monroe Doctrine — which calls for US dominance in the western hemisphere and the exclusion of all “non-hemispheric” powers from it.

“The Bolivarian government calls upon all social and political forces of the country to activate mobilisation plans and to repudiate this imperialist attack,” the Venezuelan government said in a statement.
